In our unit, students will adventure into Canada, exploring the geographical, geopolitical and industrial make-up of the nation. Our unit starts off with a knowledge-based section, where students are expected to know the names and locations of the provinces, territories and capital cities. Student notes and a map activity are used in correlation with this section. Students then study the main landforms of Canada, emphasizing the industries important to each area. This Canada lesson provides a teacher and student section with a variety of reading passages, activities, crossword, word search, colouring book and answer key to create a well-rounded lesson plan.

Book Improvement in Butt log Grade with Increase in Tree Size for Six Hardwood Species

Download or read book Improvement in Butt log Grade with Increase in Tree Size for Six Hardwood Species written by George R. Trimble (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2Work carried out by the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station in West Virginia in the past 12 years provides useful information about the relationships between tree d.b.h. and butt-log grade. The upper logs are not included in the relationships. Being smaller and containing more knots, these upper logs are generally of lower grade than the butt logs. Thus the average grade of all material in the sawlog portion of the tree is generally lower than the average grade of the butt log. In the West Virginia data, species differences in d.b.h.-grade relationship are readily apparent. This inherent tendency for species to have different proportions of the various grades in logs of the same size is a familiar phenomenon to grade-conscious foresters who work with hardwoods. The results in this paper provide a quantitative evaluation of this tendency for six of the local species.S3.

Book The Common Core in Grades 4 6

Download or read book The Common Core in Grades 4 6 written by Roger Sutton and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2014-04-18 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Classroom Go-To Guide for the Common Core is the first in a series of comprehensive tools to tap into the vast flow of recently published books for children and teens, offering recommendations of exemplary titles for use in the classroom. Currency meets authority, brought to you by the editors of the highly regarded review sources, School Library Journal and The Horn Book Magazine. This guide includes approximately 200 selections published since 2007 for grades 4-6 recommended by The Horn Book Magazine. The titles are grouped by subject and complemented by School Library Journal’s “Focus On” columns, which spotlight specific topics across the curriculum. Providing context for the guide, and suggestions on how to use these resources within a standards framework, is an introduction by Common Core experts Mary Ann Cappiello and Myra Zarnowski. These experts provide perspective on the key changes brought by the new standards, including suggestions on designing lessons and two samples plans. Following the introduction, you’ll find a wealth of books, by category. Each section includes a listing of the top titles with brief, explicit annotations, and key bibliographic data. “Focus On” articles are appended to appropriate categories to support in-depth curricular development. Each of these articles includes a topic overview and list of current and retrospective resources (including some fiction), and multimedia, that will enable educators to respond to Common Core State Standards call to work across formats.

Download or read book Distant Stage written by Eric Fillion and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2022-11-04 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a little-known fact that the first cultural agreement Canada signed was with Brazil in 1944. The two countries’ rapprochement launched a flurry of activity connecting Montreal to Rio de Janeiro amid the turbulence of war and its aftermath. Why Brazil? And what could songs and paintings achieve that traditional diplomacy could not? Distant Stage examines the neglected histories of Canada-Brazil relations and the role played by culture in Canada’s pursuit of an international identity. The efforts of French-Canadian artists, intellectuals, and diplomats are at the heart of both. Eric Fillion demonstrates how music and the visual arts gave state and non-state actors new connections to the idea of nation, which in turn informed their sense of place in the world. Tracing the origins of Canadian cultural diplomacy to South America, the book underscores the significance of race and religion in the country’s international history, showing how Brazil served as a distant stage where Canadian identity politics and aspirations could play out. Both a timely invitation to think about cultural diplomacy as a critical practice and a reflection on the interplay between internationalism and nationalism, Distant Stage draws attention to the ambiguous yet essential roles played by artists in international and intercultural relations.
