Book Sex Drugs Jesus

Download or read book Sex Drugs Jesus written by De'Vannon Hubert and published by De'Vannon Hubert. This book was released on 2022-03-28 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transparency is one of the most effective tools we have that can help us heal. It can also help us understand ourselves better as well as other people. What would you do if you believed you only had months to live? How would you feel if your community was stolen from you? Could you survive living on the streets for any length of time? Can you imagine what it's like to try to find a job when you have felonies on your record? Are there any words to describe the heart of a mother as she watches her youngest child die? It’s taken my whole life to realize that the main person I’ve been battling against has been me. As such, my memoir delves into raw detail about my war with my myself. I open up about my crystal meth addiction and how I became a drug dealer in Houston, Tx. The pain of growing up in poverty under the hand of an abusive dad is put on display as well. The time I spent serving in the Air Force during Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and the promiscuity that went along with it is also divulged. I talk about how I received my HIV + diagnosis on a voicemail and my Hep B + diagnosis in the postal mail. My story gets more intense as I share about how I got 3 felonies, the time I spent in jail, and how I ended up homeless after S.W.A.T. kicked my door in. I talk about the biggest heartbreak in my life which happened when I was kicked out of a megachurch, that I had served with my whole soul for years, just because I am a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and refused to accept the conversion therapy package they offered. So often people judge those who have been in similar situations. My hope is that my honesty can offer a glimpse into these issues from the inside, rather than from the outside looking in. I struggled with dividing my memoir into two separate books, but I felt it would be more impactful to tell everything all at once. My memoir is my testament and it’s the greatest form of outreach I have ever offered to the world. I hope that I can earn your trust and attention with the words I have written within these pages.

Book Villains and Villainy

Download or read book Villains and Villainy written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of essays explores the representations, incarnations and manifestations of evil when it is embodied in a particular villain or in an evil presence. All the essays contribute to showing how omnipresent yet vastly under-studied the phenomena of the villain and evil are. Together they confirm the importance of the continued study of villains and villainy in order to understand the premises behind the representation of evil, its internal localized logic, its historical contingency, and its specific conditions.

Book Welcome To My Nightmare The Alice Cooper Story

Download or read book Welcome To My Nightmare The Alice Cooper Story written by Dave Thompson and published by Omnibus Press. This book was released on 2012-06-26 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alice Cooper is an American rock singer, songwriter and musician whose career spans more than four decades. With a stage show that features guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, boa constrictors and baby dolls, Cooper has pioneered a grandly theatrical and violent brand of hard rock designed to shock. Drawing from exclusive and unpublished interviews with a variety of names and faces from throughout Alice’s career, the book follows Cooper’s tale from his life growing up as a preacher’s son in Arizona, through the early years of struggle in Phoenix and then Los Angeles, and then onto the rollercoaster ride that has been the years since then. Includes interviews with original bandmates Michael Bruce and the late Glenn Buxton, drummer Neal Smith, the late Frank Zappa, manager Shep Gordon and producer Bob Ezrin. Includes tributes and recollections from many of the artists who call Alice an influence - from the Damned and the Cramps, to White Zombie and Gwar. Session players and songwriters who have made their own contributions to the Alice story recall their days spent with this Prince of Hell-raisers. The result is a story that alternately thrills, shocks, surprises and delights. Includes full discography and bibliography.

Book Stealing Fatima s Hand

Download or read book Stealing Fatima s Hand written by Carolyn A. Thériault and published by Vox Humana Books. This book was released on 2010-02 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stealing Fatima's Hand is an unforgettable collection of interconnected narratives presenting an alternative view of Morocco - a country not of labyrinthine alleys, Kasbahs, and smoky tea rooms - but a more madcap Morocco, one left to be discovered after all the coach tours depart.Imagine the impossible: one finds oneself in a heady and mysterious locale on the edge of North Africa, a country replete with colorful characters, incomprehensible customs and taboos, a spoken language lacking an alphabet, often frustrating religious practices and, in spite of all this capital 'E' exoticism, one still doesn't want to marry a local? Or turn a decrepit ryad into a boutique hotel? Or write for the travel page in the Sunday paper? Carolyn Th riault does more than imagine it.After making a rather drunken New Year's Resolution to toss aside their conventional lifestyle and pension plans, Carolyn, a somewhat cynical, snarky ex-pat and self-proclaimed square-peg, with her photographer husband Chris decide to walk away from their comfortable jobs in the Land of the Round Doorknobs (Canada) to travel the world. Because their long-suffering attempts at financial independence (weekly lottery tickets) have not borne any fruit, the only apparent means to rectify this situation they believe is to teach English overseas. And Morocco seems to fit the bill. But does it?Unconventional and candid - Stealing Fatima's Hand stands out as an irreverent black sheep in the literary travel genre, succeeding in undoing for Morocco everything that Peter Mayle has done for Provence. The book spans two years of Carolyn's experiences in Rabat, where with humor and honesty she struggles with Moroccan bureaucracy, sexual harassment, the threat of terrorism, devious students, randy co-teachers, and the temptation of having French pastries washed down with gin & tonics for every meal. All this in a country, where apart from her, the only vegetarians are the sheep and the goats.

Book The Many Lives of Scary Clowns

Download or read book The Many Lives of Scary Clowns written by Ron Riekki and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2022-05-16 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The frightening yet comic clown is one of the best and most enduring characters in literature, theater, television, and film. Across the centuries, from Shakespeare's Porter in Macbeth to Edgar Allan Poe's "Hop-Frog," or Stephen King's Pennywise, horror and comedy have blended to create the perfect recipe for entertainment. This volume gives an in-depth analysis of the clown horror genre, including essays by revered horror scholars such as Kevin Wetmore, Dale Bailey, Kim Hester Williams, Jennifer K. Cox, and Joanna Parypinski. Their essays cover topics such as nostalgia, race, class, and new portrayals of the scary clown as zombies or phantoms. It also offers interviews with actors and directors working in the clown horror genre: Eoghan McQuinn (Stitches), Kevin Kangas (Fear of Clowns), and Jaysen Buterin (Kill Giggles). Some of fiction's most terrifying creations--like the Killer Klowns, Captain Spaulding, Art the Clown, Krusty, Frowny, the Joker, and Twisty--jig through these pages of analysis and deconstruction, asking what these many iterations of scary clowns have to say about our society and its fears.

Book Four Years of Rants and Raves

Download or read book Four Years of Rants and Raves written by Ryan Spear and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2008-03 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many sports fans, sporting events set milestones in a person's life. Ryan Spear used these as a basis for his work as a radio broadcaster while stationed in the Air Force at Lajes Field in the Azores, located on a Portuguese-owned island in the middle of the Atlantic. In Four Years of Rants and Raves, Spear compiles four years of monologues delivered over Armed Forces Radio Station as part of one of the first sports talk shows on the network. Spear presented the monologues, often referred to as "rants," at the end of each show as a conversation with the radio listeners. Spear's rants include the common themes of Major League Baseball, the Yankees, professional and college football, basketball, and World Wrestling Entertainment. Spear also offers his thoughts on the world of pop culture, movies and movie stars, military experiences, and life's nuances. With work beginning in mid-January 2003, this collection of monologues and experiences provides a unique and often humorous look at four years of Spear's perspective on sports and life.

Book Why Horror Seduces

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mathias Clasen
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2017-09-29
  • ISBN : 0190666536
  • Pages : 201 pages

Download or read book Why Horror Seduces written by Mathias Clasen and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From vampire apocalypses, shark attacks, witches, and ghosts, to murderous dolls bent on revenge, horror has been part of the American cinematic imagination for almost as long as pictures have moved on screens. But why do they captivate us so? What is the drive to be frightened, and why is it so perennially popular? Why Horror Seduces addresses these questions through evolutionary social sciences. Explaining the functional seduction of horror entertainment, this book draws on cutting-edge findings in the evolutionary social sciences, showing how the horror genre is a product of human nature. Integrating the study of horror with the sciences of human nature, the book claims that horror entertainment works by targeting humans' adaptive tendency to find pleasure in make-believe, allowing a high intensity experience within a safe context. Through analyses of well-known and popular modern American works of horror--Rosemary's Baby; The Shining; I Am Legend; Jaws; and several others--author Mathias Clasen illustrates how these works target evolved cognitive and emotional mechanisms; we are attracted to horrifying entertainment because we have an adaptive tendency to find pleasure in make-believe that allows us to experience negative emotions at high levels of intensity within a safe context. Organized into three parts identifying fictional works by evolutionary mode--the evolution of horror; evolutionary interpretations of horror; the future of horror--Why Horror Seduces succinctly explores the cognitive processes behind spectators' need to scream.
