Book Can Level of Information Systems Interoperability LISI Improve DoD C4I Systems Interoperability

Download or read book Can Level of Information Systems Interoperability LISI Improve DoD C4I Systems Interoperability written by Susan Chiu and published by . This book was released on 2001-12-01 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Level of Information System Interoperability (LISI) is a maturity model and interactive process for assessing and improving interoperability. The heart of the LISI concept is the formulation of a system "profile" which was created through the web- based LISI tool, Inspector 1.0. LISI considers five increasing levels of sophistication with respect to exchanging and sharing information and services. Each higher level represents a demonstrable increase in capabilities over the previous level of system-to- system interaction. The increase is expressed in terms of four attributes: Procedures, Applications, Infrastructure and Data. LISI Inspector leverages the data captured in the Inspector Survey to generate four primary sets of assessment products to be as LISI management tool: Interoperability Profiles , Interoperability Assessment Matrices, Interoperability, Comparison Tables, and Interoperability, System Interface Description. A principal finding of this research is that LISI has potential to improve DOD C4I systems interoperability but the current LISI tool has to be refined. Also, LISI must continue to evolve and adopt the dynamic nature of military operations, system acquisition, and technology improvements so LISI can be useful in contributing to the improvement of DOD C4I systems' interoperability and to achieve the Information Superiority envisioned by Joint Vision 2010.

Book The Transformation of the Armed Forces

Download or read book The Transformation of the Armed Forces written by Michele Nones and published by Edizioni Nuova Cultura. This book was released on 2012 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information technology (IT) has had, and will continue to have, a deep impact on the defence sector. The most advanced countries, not only the U.S. but also France, Great Britain and Italy, over the past few years have undergone a transormation of their armed forces aimed at exploiting the strategic advantages of IT. The goal pursued in Europe, and also promoted by NATO, is Network Enabled Capability (NEC). That is combining equipment and soldiers, as well as different doctrinal, procedural, technical and organizational elements, into a single network to obtain their interaction in order to achieve substantial strategic superiority. In practice, this also occurs with a strong, efficient and secure telecommunications network, and through netcentric modernization of armed forces' capability and systems aimed at connecting them to the net. This research paper analyzes the military netcentric modernization and transformation programs - still in progress - in France, Britain and Italy, with special focus on the joint program led by the Italian army called "Forza NEC". Opportunities and challenges of "Forza NEC" have been considered according to the Italian armed force's requirements, developed during two decades of experience in international military operations, as well as in the light of the evolution of strategic doctrine at a European and transatlantic level. Particular attention has been devoted to the interaction between industry and the armed forces, and to the involvement of many Italian companies in different "Forza NEC" activities, as it represents one of the pillars of the procurement program.

Book Enterprise Information Systems

Download or read book Enterprise Information Systems written by José Cordeiro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-08 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the best papers of the 8th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS 2006), held in the city of Paphos (Cyprus), organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) in collaboration with the University of Cyprus, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Athens University of Economics and Business. ICEIS has become a major point of contact between research scientists, engineers and practitioners in the area of business applications of information systems. This year, five simultaneous tracks were held, covering different aspects related to enterprise computing, including: “Databases and Information Systems Integration,” “Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Systems,” “Information Systems Analysis and Specification,” “Software Agents and Internet Computing” and “Human–Computer Interaction.” All tracks focus on real world applications and highlight the benefits of Information Systems and Technology for industry and services, thus making a bridge between Academia and Enterprise. Following the success of 2005, ICEIS 2006 received 404 paper submissions from more than 40 countries spanning all continents. In all, 63 papers were published and presented as full papers, i.e., completed work (8 pages in proceedings / 30–min oral presentations), 102 papers reflecting work-in-progress or position papers were accepted for short presentation and another 75 for poster presentation.

Book Reinforcing Deterrence on NATO s Eastern Flank

Download or read book Reinforcing Deterrence on NATO s Eastern Flank written by David A. Shlapak and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Russia's recent aggression against Ukraine has disrupted nearly a generation of relative peace and stability between Moscow and its Western neighbors and raised concerns about its larger intentions. From the perspective of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the threat to the three Baltic republics of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania -- former Soviet republics, now member states that border Russian territory -- may be the most problematic of these. In a series of war games conducted between summer 2014 and spring 2015, RAND Arroyo Center examined the shape and probable outcome of a near-term Russian invasion of the Baltic states. The games' findings are unambiguous: As presently postured, NATO cannot successfully defend the territory of its most exposed members. Fortunately, it will not require Herculean effort to avoid such a failure. Further gaming indicates that a force of about seven brigades, including three heavy armored brigades -- adequately supported by airpower, land-based fires, and other enablers on the ground and ready to fight at the onset of hostilities -- could suffice to prevent the rapid overrun of the Baltic states"--Publisher's web site.

Book Examination of Automated Interoperability Tools for DoD C4I Systems

Download or read book Examination of Automated Interoperability Tools for DoD C4I Systems written by David L. Ruiz and published by . This book was released on 2000-09-01 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis examines the ability of C4I systems within DoD to exchange information in the operational battlespace. With the advent of the Information Age and resultant development of the strategy of network-centric warfare, interoperability has become increasingly significant as a criterion for mission success, while also becoming increasingly difficult to achieve as well. The PPBS cycle bears some responsibility for this by creating competition amongst the Services for finite resources, perpetuating the environment that contributes to 'stovepipe' C4I systems development. This thesis examines DoD's attempts to solve the interoperability dilemma by using policies and procedures. We demonstrate that a cooperative effort among components, services, and agencies to integrate methodologies within PPBS should enhance the efforts of planners and developers in designing interoperability through the integration of C4ISR architecture development processes. As a part of this examination we will also evaluate several automated software tools that have been designed to facilitate interoperability, and present recommendations as to how these tools could be integrated to complement their effectiveness within the requirements generation and capabilities development processes.
