  • Author : Dan Jenkins
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2017-01-01
  • ISBN : 1507201486
  • Pages : 224 pages

Download or read book Stick a Fork in Me written by Dan Jenkins and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-01-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rollicking, no-holds-barred tour of the world of big-time college sports from “the best sportswriter in America” (Larry King). Pete Wallace, a good old boy from Texas, paid his dues coaching football on obscure campuses in the boondocks of America until he landed the athletic director's job at Western Ohio University. For 15 years, he has steadily and skillfully guided the school into the high society of major college sports. But now Pete, fed up with politically correct campus culture and babysitting fragile egos, is retiring from the "arms race." As he waits for the university's board of trustees to act on his early retirement package, he reflects on his career, the people he's come across, and what life will be like in retirement. Pete's story is told in Jenkins's unmistakable, raucous, old-school style, and it's full of colorful, absurd, and downright crazy characters--from clueless trustees and busybody protestors to prima donna football coaches and booster club pests. Stick a Fork in Me shows that Jenkins is “hilarious, providing more laughs per page than any other writer in the ‘bidness’” (People).

Book Earth Based Psychology

Download or read book Earth Based Psychology written by Arnold Mindell and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2018-12-14 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new spiritual guide defines, explores, and applies earth-based psychology and the related idea of path awareness—the ability to sense where to turn at any given moment. Drawing from physics, aboriginal beliefs, and shamanism, it presents new ways of determining the best direction through inner turmoil, relationship trouble, team and community issues, and world issues. With a background in applied physics and Jungian psychology, Arnold Mindell extends the work of C. G. Jung and links it with diverse disciplines and wisdom traditions, making scientific ideas accessible to non-technical readers. He presents theory and experiential exercises in a simple and imaginative manner, with diagrams and illustrations to strengthen their ability to instruct and inspire. Book Review: Arnold Mindell's work with finding directions on the Earth reminds me of old Aboriginal Wisdom, finding directions we Aboriginal people have always known and done. -- Auntie Nancy Hill-Wood, Bunjalung Woman, Elder and Citizen of the Year for Manly Warringah Regional Council, Sydney, Australia

Book Boss Life

Download or read book Boss Life written by Paul Downs and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: **A Forbes Best Business Book of the Year, 2015** **Winner of the 2015 800-CEO-READ Business Book Award in Entrepreneurship** When columnist Paul Downs was approached by The New York Times to write for their “You’re the Boss” blog, he had been running his custom furniture business for twenty-four years strong. or mostly strong. Now, in his first book, Downs paints an honest portrait of a real business, with a real boss, a real set of employees, and the real challenges they face. Fresh out of college in 1986, Downs opened his first business, a small company that builds custom furniture. In 1987, he hired his first employee. That’s when things got complicated. As his enterprise began to grow, he had to learn about management, cash flow, taxes, and so much more. But despite any obstacles, Downs always remained keenly aware that every small business, no matter the product it makes or the service it provides, starts with people. He writes with tremendous insight about hiring employees, providing motivation to get the best out of them, and the difficult decisions he’s made to let some of them go. Downs also looks outward, to his dealings with vendors and to providing each client with exemplary customer service from first sales pitch to final delivery. With honesty and conviction, he tells the true story behind building and sustaining a successful company in an ever-evolving economy, often airing his own failures and shortcomings to reveal the difficulties that arise from being a boss and a businessperson. Countless employees have told the story of their experience with managers—Boss Life tells the other side of that story.

Book Escape Emeralda

Download or read book Escape Emeralda written by Bill H. Ritchie and published by Ritchie's Perfect Press. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 879 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My life, from my birthday to the last decade of 1900s, is a spectrum of events both good and bad as I follow T. S. Elliot’s lines, “We shall not cease from exploration, And the end of all our exploring, Will be to arrive where we started, And know the place for the first time.” Growing up on my father’s farm, there was plenty of exploration, but I never went back to the farm. Far from it! My explorations took me where no teacher in my main field, which is printmaking, had gone because I was hired at 24 by a major research university where its campus services gave me a head start exploring electronic arts and computers, I could blend with teaching printmaking. Ironically, while these brought opportunities, there were hidden limitations. In the 1980s I gambled our home to take us on a vast sabbatical research project for the university. We returned to find the school corrupt, and so it ended my career. Fortunately, I married well. My high school sweetheart, Lynda, stayed with me even on my wayward ventures. In addition she brought two fine daughters to our lives. And had it not been for her ability to restore our property, my exploring would have ended forever. Because, when the art school closed its door, others opened. Everything I learned in nineteen years at the UW prepared me to continue privately. By 1990, I was on cloud nine and the Internet was within my grasp. These are the words from one of two volumes I illustrated with a thousand pictures. What autobiography of a teaching artist’s life would be complete without pictures? Not only my art, but my students’, and from collaborations with diverse artists, crafts people, designers, and writers. Plus QR codes! It is for anyone who loves a good read about teaching art as I was known for in Seattle, but also about an old professor’s family, friends, art patrons, and former students who made it possible. It continues in Volume 2. Volume 1 takes this farmboy to the approach of the information superhighway.

Book Tim Gunn The Natty Professor

Download or read book Tim Gunn The Natty Professor written by Tim Gunn and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-03-24 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A timeless book of lessons on mentorship, teaching, and learning from New York Times bestselling author Tim Gunn, host of the Emmy Award–nominated Project Runway and the reality show Under the Gunn. Tim Gunn, America’s favorite reality TV cohost, is known for his kind but firm approach in providing wisdom, guidance, and support to the scores of design hopefuls on Project Runway. Having begun his fashion career as a teacher at Parsons The New School for Design, Tim knows more than a thing or two about mentorship and how to convey invaluable pearls of wisdom in an approachable, accessible manner. While Gunn’s Golden Rules showcased Tim “as life coach,” imparting lessons based on his personal experiences, Tim Gunn: The Natty Professor will focus on Tim “as teacher.” Divided into sections on common themes—truth-telling, empathy, asking, cheerleading, and hoping for the best—this practical, timely book takes us on a journey through life lessons and uses Tim’s own personal experiences, from the classroom to the therapist’s office, to illustrate larger concepts. Says Bette Midler of Tim Gunn: The Natty Professor, “This book is as smart and fashionable as Tim Gunn himself, and it’s teeming with surprising, moving, and often hilarious stories about teaching, learning, and life. I loved it!” So grab a pencil and start taking notes: class is officially in session!

Download or read book Zombpunk STEM written by Christopher Blankley and published by Christopher Blankley. This book was released on 2012-02-21 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elder Tull is a Puke, one of the few unconverted. Without a stem, he's been discarded by society. Forgotten. Those converted now fed directly on electricity, through a power socket attached to their sternums. This cybernetic implant has transformed mankind: everyone is beautiful, everyone is healthy, everyone is thin. The stem regulates everything. Meanwhile, the Pukes are left to scavenge in the gutter, their minds burned out by starvation. Forced to squabble for what few crumbs remain, they've resigned themselves to living like the walking dead, shambling through a world of the eternally young... Until the day it all comes crashing down. One tiny glitch in the stem and the world goes insane. The few Pukes left now face a new threat: the mindless, snarling jaws of those Stems that had once seemed so perfect. With the lights out, they're searching for a new source of energy.... hungry for human flesh... Zombpunk: STEM is a postmodernist reinterpretation of the classic zombie genre, where the ranks of the walking dead are not filled with filthy, rotting corpses, but the young, forever perfect empty husks of a collapsed consumer culture. When the world finally runs out of food, will the living envy the (un)dead?
