Four factors in combination accounted for 69% of a variation in campground use per unit. Resource quality ratings made earlier as part of a nationwide Forest Service recreation resource inventory did not agree with visitors` ratings and had little relation to use variations. Overall resource quality ratings by visitors were most associated with their judgment of general environmental quality (essentially scenery).
