Book Camouflage of Fixed Installations

Download or read book Camouflage of Fixed Installations written by United States. Department of the Army and published by Fredonia Books (NL). This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual, originally published in 1958, covers methods of camouflaging fixed installations such as airfields, supply facilities, transportation facilities, buildings, and other objects and installations of a permanent or semipermanent nature. The material presented herein is applicable to nuclear and non-nuclear warfare. The basic principles of camouflage, factors of recognition, construction methods, and the geographic factors effecting camouflage are applicable to the camouflage of fixed installations, the primary difference being larger and more detailed camouflage construction of a more permanent nature. Terms used in this manual are general. For example, the camouflage of buildings is described in general terms to include all types of buildings regardless of their use or purpose, because the use or function of the installation being camouflaged has only an indirect bearing on the type of camouflage except where a specific problem is presented. When planning camouflage for a specific building the activity occupying the building will, in many instances, dictate changes in the application of camouflage. In the same way the surrounding terrain will have a direct bearing on the type of camouflage used. The camouflage of areas, concentration of activities, and emplacements for active defense are also described in general terms. Consequently it will be necessary for the camouflage planner to assemble the necessary information from this text to guide him in the designing of camouflage for a specific combination of buildings, areas, or emplacements. CONTENTS: Large Scale Camouflage Planning Introduction Camouflage Planning Camouflage Operations Camouflage Methods and Construction Methods Rear Area Installations Maintenance Index

Book The Politics of Hiding Invisibility and Silence

Download or read book The Politics of Hiding Invisibility and Silence written by Rhys Dafydd Jones and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-17 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is absence? What is presence? How are these two phenomena related? Is absence merely not being present? This book examines these and other questions relating to the role of absence and presence in everyday politics. Absence and presence are used as political tools in global events and everyday life to reinforce ideas about space, society, and belonging. Between Absence and Presence contains six empirically-focussed chapters introducing case study locations and contexts from around the world. These studies examine how particular groups’ relationships with places and spaces are characterized by experiences that are neither wholly present nor wholly absent. Each author demonstrates the variety of ways in which absence and presence are experienced – through silence, forgetting, concealment, distance, and the virtual – and constituted – through visual, aural, and technological. Such accounts also raise philosophical questions about representation and belonging: what must remain absent, and what is allowed to be present? Who decides, and how? Whose voices are heard? Recognizing the complexity of these questions, Between Absence and Presence provides a significant contribution in reconciling theorizations of absence with everyday life. This book was published a sa special issue of Space and Polity.

Book World War II Tactical Camouflage Techniques

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains and illustrates the actual materials and techniques adopted (both successfully and unsuccessfully) by tactical units – i.e. the concealment of personnel, weapons, equipment, field positions, and movement by infantry riflemen and weapons crews, artillerymen, and vehicle crews. It covers all areas and seasons in the European and Mediterranean theaters of operations, for the US, British, German, and Soviet armies. It includes camouflage of the person, personal equipment, and weapons; natural materials and “expedient” techniques; issued camouflage materials such as nets, ponchos, etc; the principles of camouflaging equipment and vehicles, of positioning and terrain integration, the effects of light and shadow, and the use of decoy and dummy positions. Featuring meticulous full-color artwork and specially selected period photographs, this absorbing study casts new light on the camouflaging techniques developed by the major armies of World War II on a host of European battlefields.
