Book Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching in the Neo Nationalist Era

Download or read book Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching in the Neo Nationalist Era written by Kyle McIntosh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-08 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how resurgent nationalism across the globe demands re-examination of many of the theories and practices in applied linguistics and language teaching as political forces seek to limit the movement of people, goods, and services across national borders and, in some cases, enact violence upon those with linguistic and/or ethnic backgrounds that differ from that of the dominant culture. The authors who have contributed to this volume provide careful analysis of nationalist discourses and actions in Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, China, Colombia, Germany, Poland, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Vietnam. They offer their unique historical and cultural perspectives on the complex relationship between language, identity, and nationhood in each of these countries, as well as practical responses to the fraught political situations that many language educators and policy makers now face. This book will appeal to researchers in applied linguistics and language teaching, as well as second and foreign language teaching professionals working and living in countries where nationalist sentiments are on the rise.

Book The Interreligious situation of Cameroon

Download or read book The Interreligious situation of Cameroon written by Emmanuel Wayi (Mico) and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-07-29 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2016 in the subject Theology - Miscellaneous, grade: 2.0, , course: inter-faith dialogue and Migration, language: English, abstract: Migration in Cameroon in general has been caused by various factors. Of recent, there seem to be the feeling that though some people say that Cameroon is at peace there is a boiling pot. The interfaith situation of the country is such that has nursed tension and distrust for so long that if care is not taken, it may one day results to a terrible crisis. This paper tries to show that though the various religions in Cameroon try to promote peace, the tension within individual faiths may one day cause a new problem. Thus, there needs to be a tilt towards the inside to subdue all internal conflict before a true inter religious dialogue can exist in that country.

Book Sustainable Tourism Policy and Planning in Africa

Download or read book Sustainable Tourism Policy and Planning in Africa written by Emmanuel Akwasi Adu-Ampong and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable Tourism Policy and Planning in Africa offers an accessible and understandable overview of the challenges of integrating sustainability into tourism policy and planning in Sub-Saharan Africa and provides some interesting recommendations on how these could be overcome. Tourism is currently growing faster in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) and in many other developing regions compared to the rest of the world. Using case examples from different segments of the tourism sector in different country contexts, this volume therefore reassesses context specific tourism policies and planning mechanisms in SSA over the years. It considers how the increasing focus on sustainability is reflected in different areas of the tourism sector including food security, the human capacity management, service delivery, local communities and heritage management, climate change and the influence of colonial legacies on tourism policy planning. For many SSA countries, it has only been in the last two decades that the development of sustainable and achievable context specific policies and planning mechanisms has become the norm. The chapters provide examples of how different dimensions of sustainability are integrated into tourism policy and practice, and examine the extent to which these are shaping the present, and their implications for the future sustainability of the tourism sector. Sustainable Tourism Policy and Planning in Africa will be of great value to academics, private and third sector employees to better understand tourism in Sub-Saharan Africa. Eight of the chapters were originally published as a special issue of Tourism Planning and Development. These are now complimented with a new introductory chapter and a concluding chapter that sets out a future research agenda for sustainable tourism policy and planning.

Book Anglophone Conflict in Cameroon A Critique on Mechanisms Used towards Conflict Transformation

Download or read book Anglophone Conflict in Cameroon A Critique on Mechanisms Used towards Conflict Transformation written by Enowsoum Konrad and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-10-16 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2023 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, University of Buea, course: Conflict Resolution, language: English, abstract: The rationale for this paper is to get into the lens of what is the Anglophone conflict- a conflict situation that has gripped the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon. Following the escalation of what started as merely civil protests from the educational and common law lawyers professions for better working conditions and respecting the Anglophone educational and legal identity saw a twist of events in 2018. With the escalation of the crisis to a conflict, the government and her development partners have sought a wide range of measures as step towards resolving the ongoing. It is the place of this academic paper to peruse through the measures put in place so far. In this therefore the paper had adopted a qualitative method of analysis of data obtained through semi-structured interviews while corroborating with the Pyramid Model of Conflict transformation as framework for analysis. The findings of this show that government resolution mechanisms have come as a result of the Major National Dialogue and the themes that surrounded this dialogue. The paper takes note of the dwindling nature of the ongoing conflict following these measures implemented so far as it can be viewed have not really yielded the much expected results. It is in this light that the paper has put forth the following recommendations like; building meaningful relationship with the civil society stakeholders, introduce the culture of civilian-military relations

Book Dialogue as an Imperative to Ecumenical and Interreligious Problems in Nigeria

Download or read book Dialogue as an Imperative to Ecumenical and Interreligious Problems in Nigeria written by Casmir Chimezie Obi and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Church is the Sacrament of Communion with God and unity among all men (Cf. Vatican II doc. L.G. 1). Christ prayed for this unity amongst his adherents in accordance with the unity between him and God the Father (Cf. Jn. 17: 21). This unity will be a sign by which the outside world is to believe in him, hence calling on the Church to rise up to this demand. Efforts were made by the Church to respond to this demand, but it was at the Second Vatican Council that the search for unity became an imperative. With this Council, the Church acknowledged the possibility of Salvation for the members of other Christian traditions and people of other religions. The Church has done a lot to promote this unity, through the teachings of the Magisterium and the activities of the recent Popes. It is then important to study the situation of Nigeria, where this call of the Vatican II, has received scant response both in ecumenical and interreligious relations. Having done pastoral work in places with interdenominational and interreligious rivalry in Nigeria, I became concerned and worried. The present religious crises in Nigeria, has escalated to an issue of grave concern with the Boko Haram insurgency. My motivation is to demonstrate the teaching of the Church regarding interdenominational and interreligious dialogue within Nigeria. There has been no sustained effort to build bridges of religious unity in the country. This research will demonstrate the necessity of ecumenical dialogue as a prelude to interreligious dialogue in Nigeria. On the global level, the need for various religions to foster relationships has become an imperative. Two important bodies CAN and NIREC, will be studied in this book. The work aims at demonstrating the involvement of the Nigerian Christians and Muslims in ecumenical and interreligious dialogue. Essentially concerned with the Catholic view of ecumenical and interreligious dialogue & its application to the Nigerian situation. No in-depth study of the religions involved. It is rather the fact of their existence & the role dialogue will play with them to solve religious problems in Nigeria. Though ATR was considered in this work, but the issue of dialogue will only involve Nigerian Muslims & Christians. The research wishes to provoke further study on dialogue between ATR and any of the other two religions. Two issues involved: the reality & importance of the Catholic teachings on ecumenical & interreligious dialogue, and their application to the Nigerian situation. Key methods involved in this work are literary research and analysis, through theological, historical, critical, descriptive, analytical & expository approaches.
