Book Cameron

    Book Details:
  • Author : Timothy Heppell
  • Publisher : Manchester University Press
  • Release : 2019-11-04
  • ISBN : 1526116316
  • Pages : 173 pages

Download or read book Cameron written by Timothy Heppell and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2019-11-04 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David Cameron was leader of the Conservative Party (2005-16) and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (2010-16). His legacy may be one of the most significant of any post-war British prime minister. But did he have a distinctive political strategy, and if so how should we characterise it? This book provides a new and distinctive interpretation of ‘Cameronism’, focusing on the twin themes of modernisation and manipulation. Heppell identifies three core aspects of Cameron’s modernisation strategy: his attempts to detoxify the image of the Conservative Party; his efforts to delegitimise the Labour Party by blaming it for the financial crisis and austerity; and Cameron’s use of the ‘Big Society’ narrative as a means of reducing the perceived responsibilities of the state. Manipulation is explored in relation to the Coalition Government and the exploitation of the Liberal Democrats, on policies such as austerity, tuition fees and electoral reform. Finally, the book examines Cameronism in relation to current challenges to the existing political order: Brexit, Scottish independence, and the rise of populism. This timely book is essential reading to those interested in British party politics and Prime Ministerial leadership.

Book Handbook of law and economics

Download or read book Handbook of law and economics written by A. Mitchell Polinsky and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007 with total page 981 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Law can be viewed as a body of rules and legal sanctions that channel behavior in socially desirable directions - for example, by encouraging individuals to take proper precautions to prevent accidents or by discouraging competitors from colluding to raise prices. The incentives created by the legal system are thus a natural subject of study by economists. Moreover, given the importance of law to the welfare of societies, the economic analysis of law merits prominent treatment as a subdiscipline of economics. This two volume Handbook is intended to foster the study of the legal system by economists. The two volumes form a comprehensive and accessible survey of the current state of the field. Chapters prepared by leading specialists of the area. Summarizes received results as well as new developments."--[Source inconnue].

This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Selected Issues paper assesses Canada’s post-crisis export performance of non-energy products using model-based benchmarks. Specifically, the analysis explores whether the pre-crisis relationship between Canada’s non-energy exports and their determinants still holds in the post-crisis period. At the aggregate level, Canada’s non-energy exports do not seem to have performed particularly poorly relative to the benchmark. Of the 23 non-energy products, five products outperformed their respective benchmarks both in growth and level terms, while seven products underperformed by the same measures. The statistical tests show that a total of 13 products had a structural break during the global financial crisis of 2007–2008. At the aggregate level, the time paths of non-energy exports’ elasticities confirm the increasing importance of US business investment. The findings at the product level reinforce those at the aggregate level, but also reveal some interesting differences between across products. A decomposition of Canada’s non-energy export growth based on the post-crisis elasticities confirms the significant contributions from US consumption and non-US demand.

There are many challenges that still remain when it comes to establishing responsible leadership both in theory and practice. Whilst offering conceptualisations for the improvement of leadership is a first and perhaps easier response, what is more difficult is to facilitate the actual change to happen. These chapters will not only generate interest in the emerging domain of studies on responsible leadership, but also will pave the way for future research in this area in the years to come.
