This book was released on 1992 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides new data on the succession of acritarch assemblages, and some information on that of chitinozoans, in warm, mainly shallow, water, marine carbonate deposits of the Canadian cratonic realm. The work is based on the well-exposed, almost continuous, unfaulted section at Wilcox Pass, located about 2.5 km north of the Athabasca Glacier, between Banff and Jasper, in the southern Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Book Stratigraphy of the Middle Cambrian Platformal Succession Southern Rocky Mountains

Download or read book Stratigraphy of the Middle Cambrian Platformal Succession Southern Rocky Mountains written by J. D. Aitken and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1.3-kilometre-thick, virtually complete Middle Cambrian platformal succession of the southern Rocky Mountains consists of four grand cycles, each beginning with a formation of the inner detrital facies belt and ending with a formation of the middle carbonate facies belt. The first three cycles share a common depositional style and are the main subject of this bulletin. The bulletin provides a comprehensive current analyses of these Middle Cambrian strata and includes abundant basic data including: the classification and understanding of algal/microbial limestones; the recognition and interpretation of large-scale depositional cycles; and the mechanism and history of subsidence of the western continental margin. The bulletin clarifies the existing lithostratigraphic nomenclature. Several new reference sections are designated and nine new members are defined. Data on a network of sections of the platformal facies of the Middle Cambrian are interpreted in terms of modern sedimentological concepts and depositional models.

This book was released on 1991 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fourteen chapters discuss regional stratigraphy by time intervals from Precambrian to Quaternary, while other chapters describe the geography, geomorphology, tectonics, geophysical characteristics, and resources of the region. A summary chapter includes geologic maps, structural cross-sections, a geotectonic correlation chart, a gravity map, and a location map for exploration wells in the Arctic Islands and northern Greenland. A wealth of additional information is contained on the nine accompanying plates.

Book Sedimentary Cover of the Craton in Canada

Download or read book Sedimentary Cover of the Craton in Canada written by D.F. Stott and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1993 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early chapters of the volume present data and interpretations of the geophysics of the craton and summarise, with sequential maps, the tectonic evolution of the craton. The main body of the text and accompanying plates and figures present the stratigraphy, structural history, and economic geology of specific sedimentary basins and regions. The volume concludes with a summary chapter in which the currently popular theories of cratonal tectonics are discussed and the unresolved questions are identified.

Book The Geologic Time Scale 2012

Download or read book The Geologic Time Scale 2012 written by F M Gradstein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 1176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Geologic Time Scale 2012, winner of a 2012 PROSE Award Honorable Mention for Best Multi-volume Reference in Science from the Association of American Publishers, is the framework for deciphering the history of our planet Earth. The authors have been at the forefront of chronostratigraphic research and initiatives to create an international geologic time scale for many years, and the charts in this book present the most up-to-date, international standard, as ratified by the International Commission on Stratigraphy and the International Union of Geological Sciences. This 2012 geologic time scale is an enhanced, improved and expanded version of the GTS2004, including chapters on planetary scales, the Cryogenian-Ediacaran periods/systems, a prehistory scale of human development, a survey of sequence stratigraphy, and an extensive compilation of stable-isotope chemostratigraphy. This book is an essential reference for all geoscientists, including researchers, students, and petroleum and mining professionals. The presentation is non-technical and illustrated with numerous colour charts, maps and photographs. The book also includes a detachable wall chart of the complete time scale for use as a handy reference in the office, laboratory or field. The most detailed international geologic time scale available that contextualizes information in one single reference for quick desktop access Gives insights in the construction, strengths, and limitations of the geological time scale that greatly enhances its function and its utility Aids understanding by combining with the mathematical and statistical methods to scaled composites of global succession of events Meets the needs of a range of users at various points in the workflow (researchers extracting linear time from rock records, students recognizing the geologic stage by their content)

Book Taxonomy Evolution and Biostratigraphy of Conodonts from the Kechika Formation Skoki Formation and Road River Group Upper Cambrian to Lower Silurian Northeastern British Columbia

Download or read book Taxonomy Evolution and Biostratigraphy of Conodonts from the Kechika Formation Skoki Formation and Road River Group Upper Cambrian to Lower Silurian Northeastern British Columbia written by Leanne J. Pyle and published by NRC Research Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conodonts, the tiny, phosphatic, tooth-like remains of an extinct group of early vertebrates, are the most important fossil group for biostratigraphy throughout their stratigraphic range from Late Cambrian to Late Triassic. This monograph represents a benchmark study of these important zonal fossils. The detailed paleontological work not only provides a taxonomic basis for future studies on early Paleozoic conodonts but also focuses on the evolution of conodonts in the early Ordovician, a time of extraordinary adaptive radiation. The taxonomic work provides detailed descriptions and illustrations of 185 species representing 69 genera. Seven new genera and 39 new species are described. The high diversity of taxa across the platform-to-basin transect shows the biogeographic differentiation and spatial ecological partitioning of conodonts through time. The taxonomy permits the refinement to the biostratigraphic zonation within two faunal realms for British Columbia that can be correlated with schemes elsewhere in North America and also internationally.
