Book The Book Called Isaiah

    Book Details:
  • Author : Hugh Godfrey Maturin Williamson
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press on Demand
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN : 9780199281077
  • Pages : 306 pages

Download or read book The Book Called Isaiah written by Hugh Godfrey Maturin Williamson and published by Oxford University Press on Demand. This book was released on 2005 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent research on the book of Isaiah has been dominated by discussions of its unity and authorship. Professor Williamson's important study provides a major and highly original contribution to these key issues, and is based upon a more rigorous methodology than ever used before. Isaiah is usually regarded as the work of two authors - the so-called Isaiah of Jerusalem (Isaiah 1-39) and Deutero-Isaiah (the author of Isaiah 40-55). Professor Williamson argues that the author of Isaiah 40-55was in fact strongly influenced by the work of the earlier writer. Secondly, he demonstrates that the earlier work was regarded as a book which had been sealed up until the time when judgement was past and the day of salvation had arrived, and that Deutero-Isaiah believed himself to be heralding the arrival of that day. Thirdly, and most provocatively, Professor Williamson argues that Deutero-Isaiah both included and edited a version of the earlier prophecies along with his own, intending fromthe start that they should be read togather as a complete whole. This innovative and scholarly work, which sheds much new light on some of the more neglected passages, has had significant implications for future work on this much-loved prophetic book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do I find fulfillment in life? How do I obtain happiness? Despite a multitude of self-help books in recent years, these eternal questions have become increasingly urgent in today’s directionless world. Author Jacques Philippe provides some answers. In his new book, Called to Life, he explains that a complete and fulfilled life is much more assured when we stop trying to chart our own course, when we realize that we are essentially creatures called by God. He goes on to describe where and how these calls take place: the events of life, the Word of God in Scripture, and interior motions of the Holy Spirit. Learning to recognize and follow these calls is what leads to a happy and full life. Called to Life includes a special section on how to read Sacred Scripture prayerfully (Lectio Divina), making this a timely source of inspiration and guidance following up on the recommendations of Pope Benedict XVI and the 2008 Synod of Bishops on the Word of God.

Download or read book A Call To Lead written by Wytress Richardson and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-31 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No matter the gender, skin color, or race of a person I find myself mentoring, particularly in my role as an academic, I strive to support each person in reaching his or her full potential (as far as I can take that person). I desire to see the individuals I'm privileged to lead grow in such a way that they can confidently pursue any opportunity that crosses their path and eventually become strong, effective leaders themselves. I seek to aid those in which I come upon to bravely tackle and break through the barriers they will undoubtedly face in their personal and professional journeys and develop to become the kind of leaders who are servants thereby leading with power and compassion, and moreover getting the respect they deserve. Because of my background and experiences, I do have an affinity for African American women leaders-born and taught, past, present, and future. That's the primary reason for this book. And yes, my drive to influence African American women leaders is a bit personal. This book will focus on what it takes to be an effective leader. It will examine the inner soul work that is imperative for leaders to do in an effort to lead and care for the souls of others well. We will also explore the hard and soft skills required to lead successfully. My hope for every reader is that you will walk away with a clear understanding of what's expected of you as a leader. Likewise, I want you to gain the knowledge that leadership is a service and not a privilege. Finally, it may seem as though the book is solely written for black women, as I do reference this population a great deal; however, don't judge a book by its cover. This book is for anyone with an interest in leading effectively.

Book excerpt: Too often we lean into the wrong things and burn out. We buy society's lie that our worth is our work, our value is our vocation, our calling is our career. Confusing what we do with who we are wreaks havoc on our bodies, our souls, and our relationships. Called Out is a deeply personal book from Paula Faris, the beloved on-air reporter for ABC News and former co-host of The View. She shares her journey through conquering fears that nearly kept her from the high-profile, high-stakes world of broadcast journalism, and then the dangers when that world threatened to consume her. She burned out and faced public humiliation, physical breakdowns, and family struggles. But along the way, she heard God gently calling her out of that dangerous place. As she struggled to find who she was outside of what she did, she discovered her true purpose and true calling. Today, she is the host of ABC's popular podcast Journeys of Faith. Written with passion and conviction, this book reflects on what it truly means to be called, how to move past the fear holding you back, and how to walk in God's path for you.

Book Astrology and Cosmology in Early China

Download or read book Astrology and Cosmology in Early China written by David W. Pankenier and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ancient Chinese were profoundly influenced by the Sun, Moon and stars, making persistent efforts to mirror astral phenomena in shaping their civilization. In this pioneering text, David W. Pankenier introduces readers to a seriously understudied field, illustrating how astronomy shaped the culture of China from the very beginning and how it influenced areas as disparate as art, architecture, calendrical science, myth, technology, and political and military decision-making. As elsewhere in the ancient world, there was no positive distinction between astronomy and astrology in ancient China, and so astrology, or more precisely, astral omenology, is a principal focus of the book. Drawing on a broad range of sources, including archaeological discoveries, classical texts, inscriptions and paleography, this thought-provoking book documents the role of astronomical phenomena in the development of the 'Celestial Empire' from the late Neolithic through the late imperial period.
