Book excerpt: This is the second in a planned trilogy regarding the fictitious world of Certus Avius. We continue our journey with Rishnak and Vannion as they try to release their patron deity Incabule. Further cultures are introduced and further Ancient-Ones reveal their true colours. There is violence within this book and the subject is dark. It is deeper and I think more robust than Book One. The book is not a stand -alone read and the episodes presented herein are not quite as cut-and-dried as they seem. Please enjoy, but try not to have nightmares.

Book Recruiting the Ancients for the Creation Debate

Download or read book Recruiting the Ancients for the Creation Debate written by Andrew J. Brown and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2023-10-05 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A careful and unbiased analysis of how thinkers from church history interpreted the creation narrative in Genesis How literally are we meant to take the creation week of Genesis 1? In this polarizing debate, contemporary interpreters invoke great theologians from history to support their own side, whether that be a young Earth or theistic evolution. The problem lies in trying to force ancient authors into contemporary boxes, as Andrew J. Brown shows in this thought-provoking volume. Covering Philo, Basil, Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Martin Luther, John Calvin, John Wesley, and more, Brown carefully interprets great thinkers’ readings of Genesis 1 in their intellectual contexts. He then assesses how these authors have been subject to cherry-picking and misappropriation in the trenches of the modern creation debate. By studying the intellectual history of the church in this way—to revisit rather than recruit the ancients—we can enrich our own biblical interpretation. Irenic and magisterial, Brown’s guide will interest both scholars of historical theology and anyone invested in the creation debate.

Book excerpt: This book is a tribute to all the Live Action Role-Players from Peckforton Castle Treasure Trap. This is an exciting novel which transports the reader into a world of mythology, theology with dark high fantasy and explores the different planes of existence and the creatures that dwell upon them. A thousand years ago The Father of the Gods was entrapped upon a comet by two of his six offspring. The comet is the size of a moon and has been colonised by an alien species who ensure that their prisoner does not escape. The comet is now coming back to the world where his six children are worshipped. The two Cambion offspring who imprisoned him on that moon do not want him released and create distractions, wars and form an alliance to prevent the release. Rishnak, the High Priest of the realm has to answer to the Gods he serves in exchange for his miraculous powers. As his potency increases he suspects that there is more to the return of the moon, and questions from where his powers derive. The Twilight Elves want the 'Father' to return as they keep an over-watch upon the realm in his name, and instruct Rishnak and his loyal friend, the knight Vannion to rescue the Father God. There are a myriad of sub-plots within this novel, but all the characters find themselves swept up in the events which unfold. The ending of the first book comes to a dramatic and unexpected conclusion and paves the way for the second book to commence. There is a sinister dark background plot which is briefly hinted at in Book One.
