Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I thought this Journey was it! I thought leaving New York, behind to find “Success”, would be easy. I thought that the grass was greener on the other side of the World... and it was. I was running towards the Sunshine; where everyone was happy, life was good...but it wasn’t. I wanted to be Famous! I wanted everyone to know Ms. Boss Lady! That was “my” plan...but it wasn’t God’s plan. I asked God for this Journey, but I wanted to do it my way; I wanted God to just, “get me to California”, and I would take it from there. I didn’t know “what was going to happen along the way”. Before I knew it, I began my Journey to beautiful sunny California! God brought me to a different world, that I knew nothing about; and since I wanted to do it “my way”, he released me amongst People, Places and Things that I never saw before, who I didn’t understand. The only “Armor”, God gave me to survive was Faith and Belief; along with what he had given me from Birth, which was “Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding; and that became a very important tool for my survival; the “Faith and Belief” was the Key. I had the Key, but I didn’t know it. My Journey would become my “Life Story”. If I wanted to be successful, in my Journey, I had to do it God’s way, I had to learn the “hard way”. What I went through was, not to “test” me, but to “challenge” my Faith and my Belief, and it was hard! The Trials, and Tribulations was horrific, I fought Giants that tried to stop me, the Storms just kept coming. I lost everything in those Storms, I wasn’t living, I was just existing. Where was God!
Download or read book California Poems Gold In Them Hills written by Stephanie Mood and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-05-05 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These stories and poems are no fairy tale but real ones, singing songs of “the sleeping promise” of the West, its “blinding sunsets” and “pricked finger,” its “strange-looking dwarfs” and “puckered kiss.” The sun is the dominant image throughout, but its rays illuminate, with dense anger or delightful humor, Death Valley and Hearst Castle, transients and friends, the rich and the cops, all searching for the promise. From the opening prose, we learn that this quest is personal, including a nasty divorce and perplexed children. But always the sun and the sea beckon us. Yet death looms, though, like the elusiveness of the West itself, it is not a bad thing. “Our bones decay smiling / atoms wave where we’ve been”; “Our heat waves love lingering under the sky.” For finally, “This is the West. / The land stops here. / The urge curls in the sand and laughs here.”

Download or read book Seashore Life of Southern California written by Sam Hinton and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 1987 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dry land is one world and the wet sea is another, but the line separating them is ever-changing. Known as the intertidal zone, the area between the land and the sea is defined by the extremes of the tides. Sam Hinton provides an introduction to this fascinating zone and its contiguous waters and to some of the many creatures who make the southern California seacoast their home. This highly readable book has been for many years the handiest resource available for anyone wanting to explore that region's delights and mysteries. The book is filled with interesting anecdotes and drawings and has a thorough discussion of the natural forces ̄the tides, winds, storms, currents, surf, and ocean chemistry ̄that affect near-shore animals. Also included is a section relating the ocean forces to the intertidal habitat, along with a map of southern California locations where one might observe the organisms described in the book.
