Book Portland Cement Concrete Paving in California

Download or read book Portland Cement Concrete Paving in California written by J. C. Womack and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My presentation today is concerned with California's experience in one important aspect of modern road construction--the methods of placing and finishing portland cement concrete pavements. Portland cement concrete pavements were first constructed on the California State Highway System in 1912. Initially, the concrete was utilized to construct a base over which an asphaltic wearing surface was placed. By 1922, the concrete was finished as the surface without an asphalt overlay.

Book Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation

Download or read book Concrete Pavement Rehabilitation written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Load transfer restoration (LTR) is a rehabilitation technique for increasing the load transfer capability of existing jointed portland cement concrete pavement by placement of dowel bars or other mechanical devices across joints and/or cracks that exhibit poor load transfer.

Book Revision of California s PCC Pavement Design Procedure

Download or read book Revision of California s PCC Pavement Design Procedure written by Raymond A. Forsyth and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brief history of concrete pavement design and construction practices is presented. In spite of numerous design changes over a long period of time, certain types of adverse performance have prevailed in California. Research findings and a state of the art analysis aided in developing a new design procedure implemented in 1982.

Book CAL APT Goal LLPRS rigid Phase III

Download or read book CAL APT Goal LLPRS rigid Phase III written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to evaluate the future performance of rehabilitated concrete pavements, a Heavy Vehicle Simulator (HVS) was used to test a Portland Cement Concrete pavement section constructed at the University of California at Berkeley. The main goals of this accelerated pavement testing were to familiarize the staff with concrete pavement construction, install instrumentation in the slabs, develop a rigid pavement testing procedure using the HVS, and monitor the in-situ instrumentation with loading. All the information and experience gained from this testing was used later for instrumentation and HVS testing of six fast setting hydraulic cement concrete (FSHCC) test sections located in Palmdale, California. A test plan was designed to provide concrete pavement testing and analysis research regarding the LLPRS-Rigid design options being considered by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The objectives of this test plan were 1) to evaluate the adequacy of structural design options (tied concrete shoulders, doweled joints, and widened truck lanes) being considered by Caltrans, primarily with respect to joint distress, fatigue cracking, and corner cracking; 2) to assess the durability of concrete slabs made with cements meeting the requirements for early ability to place traffic upon them and to develop methods to screen new materials for durability; and 3) to measure the effects of construction and mix design variables on the durability and structural performance of concrete pavements.

Book Pavement Engineering

Download or read book Pavement Engineering written by Rajib B. Mallick and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-03-27 with total page 684 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pavements are engineered structures essential to transportation, commerce and trade, and everyday life. In order for them to perform as expected, they must be designed, constructed, maintained, and managed properly. Providing a comprehensive overview of the subject, Pavement Engineering: Principles and Practice, Second Edition covers a wide range of topics in asphalt and concrete pavements, from soil preparation to structural design and construction. This new edition includes updates in all chapters and two new chapters on emerging topics that are becoming universally important: engineering of sustainable pavements and environmental mitigation in transportation projects. It also contains new examples and new figures with more informative schematics as well as helpful photographs. The text describes the significance of standards and examines traffic, drainage, concrete mixes, asphalt binders, distress and performance in concrete and asphalt pavements, and pavement maintenance and rehabilitation. It also contains a chapter on airport pavements and discusses nondestructive tests for pavement engineering using nuclear, deflection-based, electromagnetic, and seismic equipment. The authors explore key concepts and techniques for economic analysis and computing life-cycle cost, instrumentation for acquiring test data, and specialty applications of asphalt and concrete. The Second Edition includes more relevant issues and recently developed techniques and guidelines for practical problems, such as selection of pavement type, effect of vehicle tires, and use of smart sensors in rollers and software for drainage analysis. This book presents in-depth, state-of-the-art knowledge in a range of relevant topics in pavement engineering, with numerous examples and figures and comprehensive references to online resources for literature and software. It provides a good understanding of construction practices essential for new engineers and materials processing and construction needed for solving numerous problems.
