Book Field Evaluation of French Self Boring Pressuremeter Paf 76 in a Soft Deltaic Louisiana Clay

Download or read book Field Evaluation of French Self Boring Pressuremeter Paf 76 in a Soft Deltaic Louisiana Clay written by J. Canou and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of a field investigation carried out with the French self-boring pressuremeter PAF 76 in a soft deltaic clay deposit located in south Louisiana are presented. The in-situ test is performed using an electronic control and data acquisition system, monitored by an HP85 microcomputer. A brief description of the equipment used, the general in-situ test procedure, and the approach used for the interpretation of a standard expansion test are presented. General characteristics of the deposit as well as an outline of the testing program are summarized. The standard pressuremeter characteristics are then plotted versus depth and compared with results obtained using other testing methods at the same site (cone penetrometer, dilatometer, triaxial test). This comparison shows that the self-boring pressuremeter yields shear strength and elastic modulus values much higher than the other classical methods, which agrees with previously reported observations.

Book The Pressuremeter

Download or read book The Pressuremeter written by Jean-Louis Briaud and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-16 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic title deals presents all one needs to know about pressuremeter test, a soil and rock test used in civil engineering. It consists of placing a cylindrical probe in the ground and expanding the probe to pressurize the soil or the rock horizontally. The pressure on the soil and the relative increase in cavity radius are obtained and give an in situ stress strain curve. The pressuremeter test is repeated at various depths in order to obtain profiles of soil parameters. The design applications of the preboring pressuremeter test include: shallow foundations under vertical loads, deep foundations under vertical and horizontal loads, ground anchors, cantilever drilled shaft walls and anchored bulkheads, pavements, stone columns, ground improvement and compaction control.

Book In Situ Testing Methods in Geotechnical Engineering

Download or read book In Situ Testing Methods in Geotechnical Engineering written by Alan J. Lutenegger and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-05-03 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Situ Testing Methods in Geotechnical Engineering covers the field of applied geotechnical engineering related to the use of in situ testing of soils to determine soil properties and parameters for geotechnical design. It provides an overview of the practical aspects of the most routine and common test methods, as well as test methods that engineers may wish to include on specific projects. It is suited for a graduate-level course on field testing of soils and will also aid practicing engineers. Test procedures for determining in situ lateral stress, strength, and stiffness properties of soils are examined, as is the determination of stress history and rate of consolidation. Readers will be introduced to various approaches to geotechnical design of shallow and deep foundations using in situ tests. Importantly, the text discusses the potential advantages and disadvantages of using in situ tests.
