Book Induces Velocity Field of a Jet in a Crossflow

Download or read book Induces Velocity Field of a Jet in a Crossflow written by Richard L. Fearn and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of a subsonic round jet exhausting perpendicularly from a flat plate into a subsonic crosswind of the same temperature was conducted. Velocity and pressure measurements were made in planes perpendicular to the path of the jet for ratios of jet velocity to crossflow velocity ranging from 3 to 10. The results of these measurements are presented in tabular and graphical forms. A pair of diffuse contrarotating vortices is identified as a significant feature of the flow, and the characteristics of the vortices are discussed.

Book The Theory of Turbulent Jets

Download or read book The Theory of Turbulent Jets written by Genrikh Naumovich Abramovich and published by Mit Press. This book was released on 1963 with total page 671 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author's first monograph on turbulent jets, in 1936, dealt solely with a free submerged jet. Since that time, the theory of the turbulent jet has been developed in many published works both in the USSR and abroad: it has been enriched with a large amount of experimental material and has been applied in many new fields of engineering. In the last 10 years very substantial progress has been made, and it has now become possible to go beyond the free submerged jet and to solve the problem of a jet in a stream of fluid, to take into account the interaction between the jet and solid walls, to ascertain the relationship between the contour of the jet and the ratio of its density to the density of the surrounding medium, and to establish the characteristic features of a supersonic jet. This monograph contains the results of further research by the author and his colleagues, as well as a critical reappraisal of the more important theoretical and experimental data published by other investigators. The first section deals with the theory of a turbulent jet of incompressible fluid. It gives a systematic analysis of numerous experimental data on velocity profiles, temperature, and the impurity concentration, as well as the outlines of the turbulent mixing lone. The second section sets forth the theory of turbulent gas jets, including strongly preheated and supersonic jets. The theory of free turbulence in a gas, suitable in principle for any degree of compressibility, is revised, and the equations are derived for motion and heat exchange in the boundary layer of a jet at very high temperature. The third section solves several problems of the spreading of jets in finite and semifinite space, and the fourth section describes various applications of the theory of jets, many of which are reported for the first time or have been significantly revised.

Book Correlation for Temperature Profiles in the Plane of Symmetry Downstream of a Jet Injected Normal to a Crossflow

Download or read book Correlation for Temperature Profiles in the Plane of Symmetry Downstream of a Jet Injected Normal to a Crossflow written by J. D. Holdeman and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A correlation method is presented for approximating the temperature distribution in the plane of symmetry downstream of a jet injected normal to a uniform crossflow. Correlations are developed for the scaling parameters required to define the temperature profile at any desired location from the dimensionless universal form which has been experimentally observed. Profiles calculated using the correlation methods are compared with experimental profiles for several momentum and density ratios at various downstream distances.

Book Interaction of a Buoyant Turbulent Round Jet with a Co flowing Wind

Download or read book Interaction of a Buoyant Turbulent Round Jet with a Co flowing Wind written by Milton M. Klein and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A broad effort is being conducted to develop an operational Warm Fog Dispersal System (WFDS) using ground-based heat sources. In order to determine the optimum heat and thrust for the combustors in the WFDS, investigations have been made of the buoyant motion in round- and plane-heated turbulent jets in co-flowing (that is, same direction) wind fields. This report describes a method of calculating the round jet case. The method can be used for jet velocities of 100m/sec or less, wind velocities below or equal to the jet velocity, and jet temperatures up to 3 times the ambient value. Initial jet velocities of 5 and 20m/sec and temperature excesses, relative to the ambient temperature, of .3 and 1 were selected for the calculations.

Book Analysis of the Injection of a Heated Turbulent Jet Into a Cross Flow

Download or read book Analysis of the Injection of a Heated Turbulent Jet Into a Cross Flow written by James Franklin Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been undertaken to develop a theoretical model of the incompressible jet injection process. The discharge of a turbulent jet into a cross flow was mathematically modeled by using an integral method which accounts for natural fluid mechanisms such as turbulence, entrainment, buoyancy, and heat transfer. The analytical results are supported by experimental data and demonstrate the usefulness of the theory for estimating the trajectory and flow properties of the jet for a variety of injection conditions. The capability of predicting jet flow properties, as well as two- and three- dimensional jet paths, was enhanced by obtaining the jet cross-sectional area during the solution of the conservation equations (a number of previous studies assume a specific growth for the area). Realistic estimates of temperature in the jet fluid were acquired by accounting for heat losses in the jet flow due to forced convection and to entrainment of free-stream fluid into the jet.
