Book Calculation of Nonlinear Conical Flows by the Method of Lines

Download or read book Calculation of Nonlinear Conical Flows by the Method of Lines written by E. B. Klunker and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computational technique, called the method of lines, is developed for computing the flow field about conical configurations at incidence in a supersonic flow. The method, which makes use of the self-similarity property, is developed for the nonlinear flow equations. The method has proved to be an efficient and versatile procedure for constructing the numerical solutions to conical flow problems. It has been successful in computing the flow about circular and elliptic cones at conditions where small regions of supersonic cross flow develop and for the conical delta wings where the region of supersonic cross flow is extensive. The calculations made for circular and elliptic cones as well as for the compression side of various conical delta wings are in good agreement with experiment except in regions where viscous effects become important.

Book Difference Methods for Initial Boundary Value Problems and Flow Around Bodies

Download or read book Difference Methods for Initial Boundary Value Problems and Flow Around Bodies written by You-lan Zhu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the appearance of computers, numerical methods for discontinuous solutions of quasi-linear hyperbolic systems of partial differential equations have been among the most important research subjects in numerical analysis. The authors have developed a new difference method (named the singularity-separating method) for quasi-linear hyperbolic systems of partial differential equations. Its most important feature is that it possesses a high accuracy even for problems with singularities such as schocks, contact discontinuities, rarefaction waves and detonations. Besides the thorough description of the method itself, its mathematical foundation (stability-convergence theory of difference schemes for initial-boundary-value hyperbolic problems) and its application to supersonic flow around bodies are discussed. Further, the method of lines and its application to blunt body problems and conical flow problems are described in detail. This book should soon be an important working basis for both graduate students and researchers in the field of partial differential equations as well as in mathematical physics.

Book Aerodynamics of Supersonic Lifting Bodies

Download or read book Aerodynamics of Supersonic Lifting Bodies written by Martin C. Jischke and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a combined theoretical and experimental program of research in the aerodynamics of supersonic lifting bodies. Analytical perturbation techniques are used to study the supersonic flow past slightly elliptical cones, cones whose cross-sections deviate slightly but arbitrarily from that of a right circular cone, cones of small longitudinal curvature, and right circular cones undergoing small harmonic pitching and/or plunging motions. These studies all involve perturbations of the well-known solution for supersonic flow past a right circular cone. Closed-form analytical results are achieved through the use of an approximation that accurately predicts results over the entire range of the hypersonic similarity parameter. These results give hypersonic limiting solutions that agree well with other independent analyses and, at the same time, agree exactly with linearized theory in the linear theory limit. Comparisons with experiment, where possible, also show good agreement.

Book Measured and Predicted Shock Shapes and Aerodynamic Coefficients for Blunted Cones at Incidence in Helium at Mach 20 3

Download or read book Measured and Predicted Shock Shapes and Aerodynamic Coefficients for Blunted Cones at Incidence in Helium at Mach 20 3 written by Robert L. Calloway and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental values of shock shapes (alpha = 0 degrees and 10 degrees) and static aerodynamic coefficients (alpha = -4 degrees to 12 degrees) for sharp and spherically blunted cones having cone half-angles of 30, 45, 60, and 70 degrees and nose bluntness ratios of 0, 0.25, and 0.50 are presented. Shock shapes were also measured at 0 degree angle of attack by using a flat-faced cylinder (90 degree cone) and a hemispherically blunted cylinder (sphere). All tests were conducted in helium (gamma = 5/3) at a free-stream Mach number of 20.3 and a unit free-stream Reynolds number of 22,400,000 per meter. Comparisons between measured values and predicted values were made by using several numerical and simple engineering methods.
