Book Computation of Continuous Decompression Schedules for Deep Sea Dives

Download or read book Computation of Continuous Decompression Schedules for Deep Sea Dives written by James S. Robertson and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A digital computer program for calculating either continuous ascent or stop type decompression schedules is described, and examples of applications are given. The formulas used for continuous ascent were obtained analytically as solutions of differential equations relating the inert gas tension in the current critical tissue to the safe depth and with the actual depth kept equal to the safe depth at all times after an initial fast rise from the bottom to the safe depth. Thus the rate of decompression of the critical tissue controls the rate of ascent. Gas tensions in nine tissues having the same range of gas exchange half-times as have been used in EDU reports are calculated on a continuous basis, with the one having the deepest safe depth being the current critical tissue. The stop type ascent portion of the program may be used to generate a staged ascent using the same parameters for comparison with the continuous ascent schedule. The starting conditions for ascent may either be computed by the program from the dive history or be communicated to it as a subroutine in connection with another program. The program may be used either to prescribe ascent schedules or to analyze dives for which the history is known.

Book Decompression Mechanisms and Decompression Schedule Calculations

Download or read book Decompression Mechanisms and Decompression Schedule Calculations written by R. D. Vann and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A theoretical method has been developed to predict space craft and space suit atmospheres. The method used to analyze stage decompression procedures which have been tested for the Shuttle. The effect of exercise during compression and bottom time has been studied with rats during an 18 minute air dive at 350 fsw. Seventeen resting rats and 27 exercising rats out of 2 groups of 108 rats developed decompression sickness. A method for developing decompression schedules for helium/oxygen and nitrogen/oxygen saturation dives is described. Only one unknown constant is required for each saturation depth and inert gas, and this constant can be estimated from the results of previous saturation dives. Equations are presented for analyzing previous dives and for calculating decompression schedules, and examples of provisional schedules are given.

Book Computation of the Helium oxygen Decompression Tables

Download or read book Computation of the Helium oxygen Decompression Tables written by G. G. Molumphy and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tables are computed to the nearest foot - less than 0.5 is dropped, 0.5 or more is considered an additional foot. When computing the time of the final stop, any fraction of a minute is considered an additional minute. At stops other than the final stops, the saturation loss of the controlling tissue governs. Whether or not to consider a fraction of a minute must be determined by inspection. This last step is necessary because tissue loss is rounded off to the nearest foot.

Download or read book The Underwater Handbook written by Charles Shilling and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 929 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook attempts to translate data on various parameters of man's capability in underwater and hyperbaric environments for those without a background in the life sciences. Accomplishing any multifaceted task requires team work, and effective team work depends on facile communication among all participants. To communicate properly, all parties must understand each other's problems and be able to speak a similar language. To this end we believe that this publication will go a long way in furthering the understanding and communication necessary for maximum achievement. The U. S. Navy has a fundamental interest in all types of activities connected with the ocean and is especially interested in the growing field of manned underwater and hyperbaric activities. Thus, the manuscript for this comprehensive book was developed under Office of Naval Research contract N00014-67-A-0214-0013 with The George Washington University. We acknowledge with appreciation the financial support and technical guidance for this undertaking by the Naval Medical Research and Develop ment Command of the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery as well as by the Engineering Psychology Program and the Physiology Program of the Office of Naval Research. JOSEPH P. POLLARD Director Biological and Medical Sciences Division Office of Naval Research vii Preface A need was felt for a book that would document the relationship of the human being to the underwater hyperbaric environment in such a way that the individual unfamiliar with the psychological or biomedical jargon could still understand and appreciate the information.

Book Repetitive Diving Decompression Tables

Download or read book Repetitive Diving Decompression Tables written by and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A decompression procedure for repetitive diving to depths of 190 feet was devised employing modified Haldane principles which have been reported previously. The repetitive diving tables provide a system by which a diver can determine the necessary increase in decompression time on the second and successive dives, based on the amount of excess inert gas tension in his body after completion of the previous dive. The amount by which the decompression time must be increased varies inversely with the time (on surface) interval between dives. The information for using this system is obtained from four tables i.e. Decompression Table, No Decompression Table, Surface Interval Table and the Repetitive Dive Table. The validity of this procedure was tested by performing 62 repetitive dives with random combinations of depth, time and surface interval.

Book Initial Evaluation of Revised Helium Oxygen Decompression Tables

Download or read book Initial Evaluation of Revised Helium Oxygen Decompression Tables written by John M. Alexander and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifty-four man dives were undertaken to evaluate three representative tables from a revised set of HeO2 schedules. These tables were calculated using the classical Haldane method and used the set of 'M' values derived by Workman in 1965 as limits. A 33% incidence of decompression sickness occurred using surface decompression procedures. It was subsequently recommended that further testing of the schedules was unwarranted at this time. Further evaluation of the 'M' values was recommended. (Author).
