The authors of these chapters have been careful to include fundamental research with explanations as well as coverage of rough set tools that can be used for mining data bases. The contributing authors consist of some of the leading scholars in the fields of rough sets, data mining, machine learning and other areas of artificial intelligence. Among the list of contributors are Z. Pawlak, J Grzymala-Busse, K. Slowinski, and others. Rough Sets and Data Mining: Analysis of Imprecise Data will be a useful reference work for rough set researchers, data base designers and developers, and for researchers new to the areas of data mining and rough sets.

Book Connecting Histories of Education

Download or read book Connecting Histories of Education written by Barnita Bagchi and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2014-03-01 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of education in the modern world is a history of transnational and cross-cultural influence. This collection explores those influences in (post) colonial and indigenous education across different geographical contexts. The authors emphasize how local actors constructed their own adaptation of colonialism, identity, and autonomy, creating a multi-centric and entangled history of modern education. In both formal as well as informal aspects, they demonstrate that transnational and cross-cultural exchanges in education have been characterized by appropriation, re-contextualization, and hybridization, thereby rejecting traditional notions of colonial education as an export of pre-existing metropolitan educational systems.

Book Speech to Speech Translation

Download or read book Speech to Speech Translation written by Yutaka Kidawara and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the readers with retrospective and prospective views with detailed explanations of component technologies, speech recognition, language translation and speech synthesis. Speech-to-speech translation system (S2S) enables to break language barriers, i.e., communicate each other between any pair of person on the glove, which is one of extreme dreams of humankind. People, society, and economy connected by S2S will demonstrate explosive growth without exception. In 1986, Japan initiated basic research of S2S, then the idea spread world-wide and were explored deeply by researchers during three decades. Now, we see S2S application on smartphone/tablet around the world. Computational resources such as processors, memories, wireless communication accelerate this computation-intensive systems and accumulation of digital data of speech and language encourage recent approaches based on machine learning. Through field experiments after long research in laboratories, S2S systems are being well-developed and now ready to utilized in daily life. Unique chapter of this book is end-2-end evaluation by comparing system’s performance and human competence. The effectiveness of the system would be understood by the score of this evaluation. The book will end with one of the next focus of S2S will be technology of simultaneous interpretation for lecture, broadcast news and so on.

Book Critical Discourse Studies in Context and Cognition

Download or read book Critical Discourse Studies in Context and Cognition written by Christopher Hart and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2011-08-17 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical Discourse Studies (CDS) is an exciting research enterprise in which scholars are concerned with the discursive reproduction of power and inequality. However, researchers in CDS are increasingly recognising the need to investigate the cognitive dimensions of discourse and context if they want to fully account for any connection between language, legitimisation and social action. This book presents a collection of papers in CDS concerned with various ideological discourses. Analyses are firmly rooted in linguistics and cognition constitutes a major focus of attention. The chapters, which are written by prominent researchers in CDS, come from a broad range of theoretical perspectives spanning pragmatics, cognitive psychology and cognitive linguistics. The book is essential reading for anyone working at the cutting edge of CDS and especially for those wishing to explore the central place that cognition must surely hold in the relationship between discourse and society.

Book Verbivoracious Festschrift Volume Six

Download or read book Verbivoracious Festschrift Volume Six written by G. N. Forester and published by Verbivoraciouspress. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sixth Verbivoracious Festschrift is a brobdingnagian spectacular fEting the famous workshop of potential literature, The Oulipo, now entering its 57th year. Our contributors were invited to write a piece of fiction, an essay, a poem, or any other hybrid, and choose their own constraints. The results have yielded a marvellous sprawl of oulipian homage, from petite poetic tributes to Queneau, to long lipogrammatic bows to Perec. In this issue: Philip Terry's take on Perec's I Remember, Warren Motte's literary abecedaries, David Bellos's iconoclastic essay on Hugo and Perec, two chapters from Jeff Bursey's lipogrammic novel Ennead, Louis Bury's anticipatory blurbs, Michael Leong's take on the Oulipo's ever-expanding influence, Tom Jenks and Jeanelle D'Alessandro's satirical N]7s, Andriana Minou's typographically playful novella Hypnotic Labyrinth, John Peck's murder mystery in 100 sentences, poetry from Doug Nufer and Stephen Frug, Marc Lapprand's view on evolution and The Oulipo, a slew of palindromes, lists, papers, and fancies from Pablo Ruiz, and many other pieces. The issue concludes with a wholly original work of sustained constraint: Christine Brooke-Rose's first novel rewritten with her grammatical constraints and polylingual puns reinstated. The sixth issue is our fattest feast yet, and a must for Oulipo enthusiasts.

Book An Introduction to the Philosophy of Charles S Peirce

Download or read book An Introduction to the Philosophy of Charles S Peirce written by James Kern Feibleman and published by Mit Press. This book was released on 1946 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the twenty-four years since this book was first published, interest in the philosophy of Charles S. Peirce has grown considerably. He has been widely recognized as the father of pragmatism, a precursor of symbolic logic, and a worker in the field of the philosophy of science. Naturally enough, Mr. Feibleman devotes proper attention to these areas. Moreover, he details Peirce's less well-known contributions to metaphysics, ethics, and psychology. The book has two aims. The first is to offer an introduction to the general philosophy of Peirce. The second has to do with the system implicit in Peirce's work. His writings were certainly unorganized, even though his ideas were not. Because of the kind of man he was, or perhaps because of the restraining force of adverse circumstances, but probably due to a combination of both causes, Peirce himself never formulated his system, though more than once he made plans to do so. His fault was one of method of presentation, not one of thought. In other words, Peirce had a systematic philosophy which he set down unsystematically. His scattered papers make a convincing argument that their sole purpose is to perfect an implicit system of philosophy. Mr. Feibleman's purpose is to make the implicit explicit.

Book The Constructive Mind

  • Author : Brady Wagoner
  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press
  • Release : 2017-02-16
  • ISBN : 1108124518
  • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book The Constructive Mind written by Brady Wagoner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-02-16 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Constructive Mind is an integrative study of the psychologist Frederic Bartlett's (1886–1969) life, work and legacy. Bartlett is most famous for the idea that remembering is constructive and for the concept of schema; for him, 'constructive' meant that human beings are future-oriented and flexibly adaptive to new circumstances. This book shows how his notion of construction is also central to understanding social psychology and cultural dynamics, as well as other psychological processes such as perceiving, imagining and thinking. Wagoner contextualises the development of Bartlett's key ideas in relation to his predecessors and contemporaries. Furthermore, he applies Bartlett's constructive analysis of cultural transmission in order to chart how his ideas were appropriated and transformed by others that followed. As such this book can also be read as a case study in the continuous reconstruction of ideas in science.
