Armed with the CAGED system, you can learn and master the essential guitar scales all over the guitar neck, organise your fretboard for greater understanding and faster progress, use the exercises shown to practice smarter and more efficiently and become a better guitar player, soloist, improviser and all-round musician. In this method book (with accompanying demonstration videos and backing tracks) you’ll discover how to use the CAGED method to unlock your guitar fretboard and overcome the fretboard ‘roadblocks’ which prevent most guitar players from ever truly mastering the guitar neck. After the CAGED system has been clearly explained, you’ll learn how to apply it to the most useful guitar scales all guitar players need to know: the minor pentatonic, major pentatonic, major scale and natural minor scale plus arpeggio shapes for major7, dominant7, minor7 and minor7b5. I’ll also reveal how to use what you’ve learned to master other essential guitar scales like the Dorian mode, Lydian mode, Mixolydian mode, minor6 pentatonic, harmonic minor and the blues scale. The CAGED System for Guitar gives you 40 sample guitar licks (with video demonstrations) to help you build your guitar solos and soloing vocabulary. You also get step-by-step practice routines and guitar exercises you can use as well as ‘speed learning’ techniques to help you to master your fretboard in a fraction of the time that it takes most other players. In The CAGED System for Guitar you’ll discover: - The five CAGED chord shapes to use for organising and finally understanding your guitar fretboard. Learn how to memorise these quickly and easily using ‘speed learning’ techniques, circle of fourths exercises and ‘visualisation’ approaches for a solid fretboard foundation - How to ‘build’ scale shapes and patterns around CAGED chord shapes for unshakeable fretboard knowledge and confidence. Use this method to find a shape for any scale, in any key, anywhere on the fretboard and play guitar with freedom at last! - 40 sample CAGED licks (with video demonstrations) show you how to go from playing scale shapes to playing killer licks and solos all over the fretboard. These licks show you the tastiest bends, double stops and scale runs to help you build your soloing vocabulary and start using each of the CAGED scale shapes like a pro (practice required!) - Connecting patterns to improvise and solo all over the entire guitar neck (no more getting stuck in 'box patterns') - How to build an endless number of great lick and soloing ideas. Use the techniques and practice methods described in the ‘Vocab Accelerator’ chapter to grow your soloing vocabulary, lick library and soloing skills - Step-by-step practice routines and I’ll give you the exact fretboard exercises to use in order to thoroughly and efficiently assimilate everything shown into your guitar playing repertoire. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hacking the CAGED System series was inspired by my own,and other guitarist’s frustrations with the infamous CAGED System for learning guitar. It all started back in Music College in the early 2000s, at the ACM in Guildford (UK) to be precise, where we were handed, by none other than Guthrie Govan, an inch-thick binder containing all manner of shapes and patterns for the CAGED system, including chords and arpeggios. I duly slaved over the book while burning the midnight oil for an entire semester and while my technique improved no end, I just couldn’t turn those patterns into music,or connect them to what I was learning in music theory class.Fast forward to 2016, and with the benefit of hindsight from more than 20 years of playing, I’ve been able to look at the CAGED system from a different perspective, and one that will hopefully make it a useful system for anyone wishing to learn it. The CAGED system has many flaws, but these can be hacked and rectified to turn it into a powerful system for understanding how the guitar fretboard works, leading to a versatile, and above all, functional knowledge of chords, arpeggios, scales and modes, and key signatures. What’s in Book 1? Book 1 teaches you the basic major scale forms, shows you where to find the basic diatonic chords as well as seventh chords. We then venture into intervals which are the key to making your solos sound like you know what you’re doing. Next we bring out the arpeggios, and finally the modes. Everything is tied together using key signatures as a framework to build up a practical knowledge of chords, scales, arpeggios and modes on the guitar.

Book Guitar Hacks

  • Release : 2017-04-16
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 24 pages

Download or read book Guitar Hacks written by Graham Tippett and published by Graham Tippett. This book was released on 2017-04-16 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 3NPS (three-note-per-string) scales, as used by legions of guitarists but popularized mainly by Joe Satriani, are one of the most efficient ways to navigate the fretboard and get your scales down IF you follow the guidelines in this book. As the name suggests, a 3NPS scale is any scale that contains three notes on each string, and as you'll see in this eBook, this makes for a very consistent way to map out scales on the guitar fretboard. What we’ve done here is revamped the 3NPS scale system and turned it into an incredibly effective means to learn a wide variety of scales all over the fretboard by streamlining the number of patterns, as well as the picking system. This is not a scale theory book, and contains no pentatonic scales. This is a quick and dirty (and very effective) method for learning 3NPS scales all over the fretboard; something to work on in the woodshed. It will improve your picking technique and speed. It does not require a great amount of thinking as you only need to learn two picking patterns, which is really one in two directions, and only three scale patterns instead of the usual seven per scale.

Book Chords for Guitar

  • Pages : 89 pages

Download or read book Chords for Guitar written by Gareth Evans and published by Intuition Publications. This book was released on 2015-02-10 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Chords For Guitar is written in a concise and clear manner that will be easy to understand by anyone with basic music knowledge. A consistent and simple approach that will prove to be a great tool for those hoping to expand their knowledge on the fret-board." -- Danny McCrum, Professional Guitarist (New Zealand) “Gareth Evan's guitar chord book is one of the most thorough and in-depth books I have ever seen. If you're armed with one of these books, you will have everything you will ever require to know all about chords.” -- Tony Cox, Award winning Acoustic guitarist (South Africa) Chords for Guitar is about moveable chord shapes based on the CAGED guitar system. Rather than presenting the same shapes for the same chord types as different chords when moved up or down the fret-board, giving 1000’s of chords, Chords for Guitar makes this into a simple unified process by showing only the moveable shapes and how to move them up down the fret-board, allowing for more chord types. Chord Reference: Chords for Guitar is a reference of over 200 unique shapes for just over 60 different chord types, from the commonly used chord types such as major, minor, sus2, sus4, add9 and 7th chords to further extended chords, altered chords and inversions, enabling you to find many more chords yourself and get a better understanding of the fret-board. Questions and Answers: The root note location within all of the guitar chords is clearly marked out, enabling you to transpose its moveable shape up and down the fret-board. Each chord type has a question to make sure you’re on track to being able to locate guitar chords yourself; shift the root note to its note name location (e.g. C, F#, G etc.) apply the chord shape, then check the answer at the back. Theory: Theory and chord construction are explained using piano keys for the simplicity of its linear layout of notes, then applied to the six-string guitar, from the basics of using odd numbered intervals (e.g. 1, 3, 5 etc.) to the compound intervals within extended chords and alterations. "At the School of Guitar we always use the CAGED system but we have never seen it applied so well to all chords. There are many books and resources that use the CAGED system but they are normally limited to major chords or minor chords and a few more. This book uses it brilliantly applying it to every chord you can imagine. I love the way each transposable version of the chord is linked to an open chord. Not only is it the best CAGED book of chords, we would go further and say it is simply the best book of chords we have seen." -- Cormac O Caoimh, School of Guitar (Cork Ireland) "A lot of the time I have found myself trapped between overbearing simplicity and overwhelming music theory related language. Gareth Evans' 'Chords for Guitar' proved to be the perfect mid-ground. Furthermore, it touched on something I have personally had issues with when writing or learning new music. I had wanted to start playing less with a capo, and more with an ability to transpose chords and find the right key just by being more familiar with the fret board in it's entirety. This book teaches you exactly this. Highly recommended." -- Rebecca Cullen, Performing Musician & Composer (Manchester UK) "For those students of guitar who are looking for an explanation of this famed system of learning the guitar fretboard, in a relatively fast, painfree and efficient manner, this is a wonderful book. You will find many subtle chords that you hadn't expected were easily movable." -- Marion Arts, Guitar Teacher, Performer & Composer (New Zealand)
