Book Systems Analysis and Simulation I

Download or read book Systems Analysis and Simulation I written by Achim Sydow and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computer simulation has developed into a powerful tool for problem solving in a variety of areas, in the sciences as well as in industrial environments. New developments such as parallel simulation techniques will further improve the efficiency of the tool. Decision support systems, either based on mathematical models or on knowledge based expert systems will make computer simulation accessible to more users, and will provide better environments for systems analysis, modeling and simulation. Systems Analysis and Simulation presents the papers accepted for the 3rd International Symposium for Systems Analysis and Simulation held in Berlin (GDR) in September of 1988. The contributions selected for this two-volume set present the state of the art and current trends in computer simulation. Volume I emphasizes the theoretical foundations and the methodology for computer simulation and systems analysis. Volume II presents a variety of applications in fields such as manufacturing, robotics, economics, and biology.

Book Economics of Advanced Manufacturing Systems

Download or read book Economics of Advanced Manufacturing Systems written by Hamid R. Parsaei and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1980s have witnessed a tremendous growth in the field of computer integrated manufacturing systems. The other major areas of development have been computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, industrial robotics, automated assembly, cellular and modular material handling, computer networking and office automation to name just a few. These new technologies are generally capital intensive and do not conform to traditional cost structures. The net result is a tremendous change in the way costs should be estimated and economic analyses performed. The majority of existing engineering economy texts still profess application of traditional analysis methods. But, as was men tioned above, it is clear that the basic trend in manufacturing industries is itself changing. So it is quite obvious that the practice of traditional economic analysis methods should change too. This book is an attempt to address the various issues associated with non-traditional methods for evaluation of advanced computer-integrated technologies. This volume consists of twenty refereed articles which are grouped into five parts. Part one, Economic Justification Methods, consists of six articles. In the first paper, Soni et at. present a new classification for economic justification methods for advanced automated manufacturing systems. In the second, Henghold and LeClair look at strengths and weaknesses of expert systems in general and more specifically, an ap plication aimed at investment justification in advanced technology. The third paper, by Carrasco and Lee, proposes an enhanced economic methodology to improve the needs analysis, conceptual design and de tailed design activities associated with technology modernization.

Book Integrated Product and Process Development

Download or read book Integrated Product and Process Development written by John M. Usher and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998-03-13 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenal success of integrated product and process development (IPPD) at such companies as Boeing, Motorola, and Hewlett-Packard has led many manufacturers to place renewed emphasis on this critical aspect of concurrent engineering. If you are among those charged with the daunting task of implementing, upgrading, or maintaining IPPD, you need a single reference/handbook that covers all of the tools, technologies, and applications that support IPPD. You need Integrated Product and Process Development. Emphasizing applications, this extremely user-friendly guide covers everything from basic principles to cutting-edge research. It addresses ideas and methods in product design as well as issues related to process design and manufacturing. Case studies illustrate the application of various tools and techniques of IPPD in manufacturing for the defense industry, making the most of product planning, applications of quality function deployment (QFD), the effective use of design optimization, and integrating design and process planning. Other topics covered include: Identifying customer needs using QFD. Issues and constraints in time-driven product development. Enhancing automated design systems with functional design. Rapid prototyping. Case-based process planning systems
