ABOUT THE MENIERE MAN SERIES When the Author was diagnosed with Meniere's, his ENT specialist handed him an A4 leaflet and told him to keep away from stress and to not eat salt. That was it! There were no books on the subject in bookstores or libraries. The internet was in its infancy - you couldn't even send an email. He had no choice, but to take recovery into his own hands. Armed with hope, determination and a positive attitude, he recorded daily accounts of what worked and didn't work, until he amassed five years of handwritten diaries, daily journals and notebooks. Once he recovered health, he was determined to ensure no one else should find themselves diagnosed with an "incurable illness" and with no consistent, insightful information. Using only his personal experience of battling Meniere symptoms and making a recovery, he decided to write a series of coherent books to cover every aspect of this multifaceted condition from his point of view. Since publishing the first self-help memoir and a complete series of self-help books, during the past seven years, the Author's experiences and personal insights; his coherent and consistent information, helps make the world for Meniere's sufferers, a less frightening place than it once was. Book Consensuality

    Book Details:
  • Author : Naomi Segal
  • Publisher : Rodopi
  • Release : 2009
  • ISBN : 9042025867
  • Pages : 302 pages

Download or read book Consensuality written by Naomi Segal and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2009 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The body is an emissary. We know little of our own feelings or the feelings of others, but that ignorance is mediated through our organ of touch, the skin. The term 'consensuality' stands for the co-presence of perceptions on the skin, which is the backcloth to sensation and thought. If the intelligence of the body is the basis of both sense and consent, consensuality also has to do with human relations based on the sense of touch, particularly the mother-child couple and the relation of desire, love and loss. This book touches on a range of cultural figures including Gide, Princess Diana, Kafka, Gautier and Rilke, and such films as Gattaca, The Talented Mr Ripley, Being John Malkovich, The Piano and The Truman Show, together with theories of the caress, phantom limbs and replacement children. Connecting all these is the work of psychoanalyst Didier Anzieu, who wrote on group psychology, psychodrama, psychic envelopes, creativity and thought; he also published a study of May '68 written from the heart of Nanterre. He was analysed by Lacan, not knowing at the time that the latter had treated Anzieu's mother. His Le Moi-peau (The Skin-ego) shows how the psychic skin holds, protects and communicates but can also constrict or tear. If love enwraps and loss flays, how do we mourn?

Book Poison and Poisoning in Science Fiction and Cinema

Download or read book Poison and Poisoning in Science Fiction and Cinema written by Heike Klippel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-14 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about poison and poisonings; it explores the facts, fears and fictions that surround this fascinating topic. Poisons attract attention because they are both dangerous and hard to discover. Secretive and invisible, they are a challenging object of representation. How do science studies, literature, and especially film—the medium of the visible—explain and show what is hidden? How can we deal with uncertainties emerging from the ambivalence of dangerous substances? These considerations lead the editors of this volume to the notion of “precarious identities” as a key discursive marker of poisons and related substances. This book is unique in facilitating a multi-faceted conversation between disciplines. It draws on examples from historical cases of poisoning; figurations of uncertainty and blurred boundaries in literature; and cinematic examples, from early cinema and arthouse to documentary and blockbuster. The contributions work with concepts from gender studies, new materialism, post-colonialism, deconstructivism, motif studies, and discourse analysis.

Book Yeasts in Natural Ecosystems Diversity

Download or read book Yeasts in Natural Ecosystems Diversity written by Pietro Buzzini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-05 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the diversity of yeasts in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, including the association of yeasts with insects, invertebrate and vertebrate animals. It offers an overview of the knowledge accumulated in the course of more than 60 years of research and is closely connected with the volume Yeasts in Natural Ecosystems: Ecology by the same editors. In view of the rapid decline of many natural habitats due to anthropogenic activities and climate change, the need to study biodiversity is pressing. Rising temperatures threaten species inhabiting cold and aquatic environments, and species in terrestrial ecosystems are endangered by habitat fragmentation or loss. Most of our knowledge of intrinsic properties (autoecology) of yeasts reported throughout this book is derived from laboratory experiments with pure cultures. Accordingly, the importance of culture collections for ecological studies is highlighted by presenting an overview of worldwide available yeast strains and their origins. All of the chapters were written by leading international yeast research experts, and will appeal to researchers and advanced students in the field of microbial diversity.
