Book The Nation in the Global Era

Download or read book The Nation in the Global Era written by Jerry Harris and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2009-05-15 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Nation in the Global Era: Conflict and Transformation offers unique perspectives into a range of important current topics for both activists and scholars concerned with globalization. The articles combine the study of globalization as an integrated world system with the specifics of how individual nations and groups are inserted into the larger economic, social, cultural and political patterns. This essential approach seeks out those forces that create a shared world system, yet understands the multiple levels and variances under which that system develops. Chapters explore the relationship between class and state under the impact of globalization; how nations, particularly in the South, are affected by globalization; and the development of national identity and consciousness within the context of global relationships. Griffiths, Magda von der Heydt- Coca, Ismael Hossein-zadeh, Kwangkun Lee, Patrick Loy, Cori Madrid, Georgina Murray, Greg Nowell, Rubin Patterson, Isaías R. This book was released on 2010-12-01 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Brookings Institution Press and the Organization of American States publication This is the Spanish language version of Toward Free Trade in America. In the past 15 years, the nations of the Western Hemisphere have staged a remarkable revolution—in the way they trade with their neighbors. First, after decades of restrictive import policies, several countries began to liberalize their trade and investment regimes. Then, beginning a decade ago, numerous bilateral and sub-regional trade agreements were achieved, to serve as vital complements to domestic reforms and to foster trade flows among member countries. At the Second Summit of the Americas in 1998, negotiations among 34 democracies were launched to establish the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). This report takes stock of the remarkable progress to date in the development of free trade in the Western Hemisphere. It examines trade flows between countries in the same regional groupings and between members of different sub-regional arrangements. The report describes the main characteristics of the trade arrangements signed between countries of the Hemisphere and explores the development of trade rules in these arrangements. Finally, the report details recent advances in the construction of the FTAA.

Book Acceso a Los Servicios de Salud en El Marco Del TLC

Download or read book Acceso a Los Servicios de Salud en El Marco Del TLC written by Julio Arboleda-Flórez and published by Pan American Health Org. This book was released on 1999 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) may not imply changes in the immigration laws of its signatories, but it will make it easier for people to move freely among Canada, Mexico, and the United States. One of the concerns arising from NAFTA involves meeting the health care needs of people who move from one member country to another. The publication analyzes the legal implications of the access to health care by individuals from NAFTA countries who are temporarily working or residing in another member country. The book compares the health systems of Canada, the United States, and Mexico, focusing on their principles and objectives, legal framework, institutional structure, operational modalities, and outcomes. Detailing the similarities and differences among the systems of these three countries, this publication attempts to anticipate the treaty's potential benefit or detriment to access to health care services and examines the expectations and concerns that free trade generates in this respect.

This book was released on 2006-06-08 with total page 1856 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of Norbert Tietz's classic handbook presents information on common tests as well as rare and highly specialized tests and procedures - including a summary of the utility and merit of each test. Biological variables that may affect test results are discussed, and a focus is placed on reference ranges, diagnostic information, clinical interpretation of laboratory data, interferences, and specimen types. New and updated content has been added in all areas, with over 100 new tests added. Tests are divided into 8 main sections and arranged alphabetically. Each test includes necessary information such as test name (or disorder) and method, specimens and special requirements, reference ranges, chemical interferences and in vivo effects, kinetic values, diagnostic information, factors influencing drug disposition, and clinical comments and remarks. The most current and relevant tests are included; outdated tests have been eliminated. Test index (with extensive cross references) and disease index provide the reader with an easy way to find necessary information Four new sections in key areas (Preanalytical, Flow Cytometry, Pharmacogenomics, and Allergy) make this edition current and useful. New editor Alan Wu, who specializes in Clinical Chemistry and Toxicology, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this edition. The Molecular Diagnostics section has been greatly expanded due to the increased prevalence of new molecular techniques being used in laboratories. References are now found after each test, rather than at the end of each section, for easier access.
