Book Corporate Foresight

Download or read book Corporate Foresight written by Alberto F. De Toni and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world changes like the patterns in a kaleidoscope: trends expand, contract, break up, melt, disintegrate and disappear, while others are formed. Change – as opposed to stasis – is our normal condition, the only certainty in our lives, hence the need to create tools that provide organizations with the means to tackle change and navigate complexity. We must accept the reality of constant change and be prepared for a heavy shift in perspective: interconnection versus separation, acceleration versus linearity and discontinuity versus continuity. Anticipating the future requires more than the traditional predictive models (forecasting) based on the forward projection of past experiences. Advanced methods use anticipation logic (foresight) and build probable scenarios taking into account weak signals, emerging trends, coexisting presents and potential paths of evolution. Corporate foresight is fundamental to interpret and lead change. The two cornerstones of foresight are organization and management. As concerns organization, the authors advocate the separation of research (oriented to the market of tomorrow) from development (oriented to the market of today), the establishment of a foresight unit and the concentration of research activities mainly on the acquisition and recombination of external know-how. As regards management, after an overview of state-of-the-art literature on forecasting methods, the authors propose the implementation of a "future coverage" methodology, which enables companies to measure and verify the consistency between trends, strategic vision and offered products. These organizational and managing tools are then tested in a case study: the Italian company Eurotech SpA, a leader in the ICT sector.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forty-one-year old Elizabeth Bishop's life has begun to feel like a string of empty successes. While her international career has prospered, her personal affairs have not and the almost urgent sense that something vital is missing inspires her to make a pilgrimage to idyllic, small town Montague to visit her closest childhood friend, Annie. Until recently, Annie's life has appeared to be perfect. She married her pillar-of-society psychiatrist husband, Arthur, while they were both still in college, became a full-time mother to their two young children and devoted her self to caring for her family. Her life seemed to be postcard perfect until just the year before, when Arthur committed suicide, leaving her to raise now eight-year-old Sam and fourteen-year-old Betsy on her own. When Elizabeth arrives in Montague, she is plunged into the dark and tangled mystery surrounding Arthur's death. Nothing, apparently, is as it seems. Annie's life has been a lie for years. Arthur was a violent, angry man who scarcely spoke to his wife. Betsy and her father shared an unnaturally close relationship that excluded Annie and everyone else. Only Sam -- sweet, cheerful, buoyant Sam -- seems to have survived unscathed, but has he? And why is Annie so afraid of Jackson, Arthur's boyhood chum who was close to both Arthur and Annie for many years before he was banished from the family? Why has he resurfaced now and what secrets are he and Annie hiding? As Elizabeth tries to sort through the web of deceit in Annie's life, her own demons begin to emerge. She is haunted in her nightly dreams by a recurring vision from childhood of a brooding moonlike face hovering just above her but remaining out of reach. Who is the face, why has it returned and what does it want? Annie believes that only Luke, her high school confidant and Elizabeth's long ago boyfriend, can provide the key to their shared crises. Without telling Elizabeth, Annie invites Luke to join them in Montague. An unexpected love story ensues as the protective layers surrounding each of the characters begin to unravel. Annie finds courage and perspective as she sees her life from a new vantage point. Betsy learns that Arthur was not her biological father and that the insanity she was so afraid of inheriting from him is not her birthright. Elizabeth recovers the deeply buried memories of her own mother's death and finally confronts the face that has been haunting her dreams since childhood. At the center of Betsy and Elizabeth's growing friendship is their shared search for a relationship with God as He is revealed in the Psalms and Proverbs. Ultimately, each of the characters finds a Higher Power to whom they can turn for strength and comfort.

Download or read book Medicine Wheel Trilogy written by Grandmother Puddingstone and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2018-04-23 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lost? Confused? Burned out? Defeated? Alone? The Medicine Wheel can give you the answers that you are searching for. All religions deal with the circle of life and death. Your life will make more sense when you follow the wheel. The Medicine Wheel is already working for you. My people call the wheel the good red road. The Irish say, "May the road rise up to meet you," etc. Poets write about the "road not taken." We are all on the road of life; how we travel, it is our own decision. In the city, people feel that you cannot make a Medicine Wheel, but I have many friends that say you can. One of my friends lives in an apartment in the heart of the city with traffic noise from the bridge and the streets below. He lives close to the river, and he can hear the sounds of the ships and fog horns. The wheel is a tool that provided him with the balance and the right path he needed to follow in his life. I started this book in June 1987, and I kept struggling with writing it because I didn't want to give away secrets that were known only to medicine people. Many of my people were saying that too many non-Indian people are writing about Native American Indians medicine and know nothing about it. They did not want the secrets of the Medicine Wheel known to the general public. I taught my people, but only a few were interested. They did not want to learn about their heritage and personal medicine. My medicine teacher said in order to save the knowledge and pass it on, I had to write this book for the good of all people. Now I leave this knowledge in your hands. Share and explore!

It can, however, bring with it an increased sensitivity, so overwhelming that some find it hard to operate in day-to-day life. Others feel foolish or weird when acknowledging their intuition. In a world focussed on science we have amazing technology and vast physical abundance.
