Book Common Malayan Butterflies

Download or read book Common Malayan Butterflies written by R. Morrell and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "THE aim of the Malayan Nature Handbooks is to provide a series of handy, well-illustrated guides to the fauna and flora of the Malay Peninsula. They can, of course, be no more than introductory; the animal and plant life of Malaya is on such a lavish scale that comprehensive accounts of the groups described in each of the Handbooks must be either severely technical or voluminous and correspondingly costly. The selection of species described in each one has been carefully made, however, to illustrate those most likely to be the first encountered by reasonably observant people residing in or visiting Malaya; reference to rarities or species confined to inaccessible country has been avoided, except where such species are of special interest. It is the Editor's belief that interest in animals and plants is best aroused by providing the means of identifying and naming them. The emphasis of the Handbooks is therefore firstly on identification, but as much information on habits and biology is included as space will allow. It is hoped that they may be of use to schools in supplementing courses in nature study and biology, and a source of pleasure to that quite numerous assem blage of Malayans whose complaint has been that they would gladly be naturalists if someone would show them the way."--Page i.

The book comprises four sections. The first two sections introduce the reader to principles and approaches for investigating complex relationships, and provide a platform of knowledge on butterfly biology. The final two sections deal in turn with life history and behaviour, covering key issues affecting different stages of development from eggs to adults.
