Book Little Ginny Polkadot

Download or read book Little Ginny Polkadot written by Thomas L. Meros and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2023-08-17 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of Superman has always been my childhood favorite. The creators of Superman were Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. They were classmates at Cleveland Glenville High School. They signed their DC Comics contract and received their first royalty check for Superman's creation on March 1, 1938. I was born on March 1, 1949, in Glenville Hospital, only the length of a football field from the house where Siegel and Shuster created Superman. Drawn to the gravitational pull of Superman, I dreamed of young kids having superpowers that are used only for the common good of mankind. I knew a girl named Ginny who wore polka dot dresses. I asked her what she would do if her polka dots possessed magic only for her. I never forgot that idea of "Little Ginny Polkadot" who, as Virginia Rose Stewart, was a seventh grader in Manhattan when her mother, Mandy, suddenly was killed in an "accident." Ginny never knew her father, Ramone, who had mysteriously disappeared before Ginny's birth. Ramone left Mandy a gift for their unborn child, a crystal lattice which, if used in the right way, gave Ginny unexplained superpowers. The world's evil nuclear powers China, Russia, and North Korea race each other to discover Ginny's true identity, kidnap her, in their schemes to control those superpowers for their own purposes. Little Ginny wants to understand her father and her own mission in life. This is the first of a series of twelve books about the challenges and adventures of the superpower of "Little Ginny Polkadot."

Book They Played the Game

Download or read book They Played the Game written by Norman L. Macht and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2019-04-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Noted baseball historian Norman L. Macht brings together a wide?ranging collection of baseball voices from the Deadball Era through the 1970s, including nine Hall of Famers, who take the reader onto the field, into the dugouts and clubhouses, and inside the minds of both players and managers. These engaging, wide-ranging oral histories bring surprising revelations—both highlights and lowlights—about their careers, as they revisit their personal mental scrapbooks of the days when they played the game. Not all of baseball’s best stories are told by its biggest stars, especially when the stories are about those stars. Many of the storytellers you’ll meet in They Played the Game are unknown to today’s fans: the Red Sox’s Charlie Wagner talks about what it was like to be Ted Williams’s roommate in Williams’s rookie year; the Dodgers’ John Roseboro recounts his strategy when catching for Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax; former Yankee Mark Koenig recalls batting ahead of Babe Ruth in the lineup, and sometimes staying out too late with him; John Francis Daley talks about batting against Walter Johnson; Carmen Hill describes pitching against Babe Ruth in the 1927 World Series.

Max Crawford has reached the point in life where he’s starting to think about settling down. Unfortunately, he’s always been a little awkward when it comes to social interactions, and working from home doesn’t help. He spends so much time alone, painting beautiful, historically accurate model trains that half of Whitford has begun to joke that he may be a serial killer. Not exactly prime husband material. Tori Burns has found happiness in Maine, thanks in large part to her shifts at the Trailside Diner. She likes the work, and she loves the local gossip. When shy, geeky Max Crawford becomes a regular, she’s intrigued. When she finds out he’s in the market for a wife, she’s fascinated . . . and determined to help. Molding Max into every woman’s dream turns out to be much easier than expected. But has Tori’s plan worked a little too well? As she turns his comfortable life all sorts of upside down, she’ll have to find a way to show just how she’s fallen for him . . . the real him. Book Immersive Gameplay

Download or read book Immersive Gameplay written by Evan Torner and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-01-10 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of all-new essays approaches the topic of immersion as a product of social and media relations. Examining the premises and aesthetics of live-action and tabletop role-playing games, reality television, social media apps and first-person shooters, the essays take both game rules and the media discourse that games produce as serious objects of study. Scholars of social psychology, sociology, role-playing theory, game studies, and television studies all examine games and game-like environments like reality shows as interdependent sites of social friction and power negotiation. The ten essays articulate the importance of game rules in analyses of media products, and demonstrate methods that allow game rules to be seen in action during the process of play.

Book Who s on First

Download or read book Who s on First written by Mark Z Aaron and published by SABR, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-03-19 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about baseball’s true “replacement players.” During the four seasons the U.S. was at war in World War II (1942-1945), 533 players made their major-league debuts. There were 67 first-time major leaguers under the age of 21 (Joe Nuxhall the youngest at 15 in 1944). More than 60 percent of the players in the 1941 Opening Day lineups departed for the service. The 1944 Dodgers had only Dixie Walker and Mickey Owen as the two regulars from their 1941 pennant-winning team. The owners brought in not only first-timers but also many oldsters. Hod Lisenbee pitched 80 innings for the Reds in 1945 at the age of 46. He had last pitched in the major leagues in 1936. War veteran and former POW Bert Shepard, with an artificial leg, pitched in one game for the 1945 Senators, and one-armed outfielder Pete Gray played for the St. Louis Browns. The war years featured firsts and lasts. The St. Louis Browns won their first (and last) pennant in 1944 — a feat made more amazing by the fact that they had not finished in the first division since 1929. The 1944 team featured 13 players classified as 4-F. The Chicago Cubs appeared in the 1945 World Series but have not made it back since. Some 53 members of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) have contributed to this volume. We invite you to sit back and relax as you learn Who's on First? Book Out of the Rough

Download or read book Out of the Rough written by Steve Williams and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2016-03-29 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With 150 wins to his name, Steve Williams is one of the most successful caddies of the modern era. From his modest start in freelancing his way around the world’s golf courses, he became a man in demand, working with some of the golfing world’s best. Greg Norman, Raymond Floyd, Terry Gale, Ian Baker-Finch, and Adam Scott all benefitted from the knowledge, experience, and honesty for which Williams is known. Williams is perhaps best known, however, for his triumphant thirteen years on the bag of Tiger Woods. Together, Woods and Williams won more than 80 tournaments—with 13 major championships among them. But it wasn’t all celebrations. Despite his best efforts, Williams could only watch as Woods fell from the podium, his game in decline—ignorant of the scandal about to make headlines around the world that would nearly ruin Tiger’s pro career. In this candid book, Williams tells the stories of golf’s elites that you won’t hear anywhere else—the highs and lows of their careers, and the critical role of a caddie in both spots. Bold and entertaining, his story offers a rare insider’s view of the professional golfing world.

Book excerpt: This book recounts the remarkable life of Roy Peck, a quintessential yet extraordinary Canadian. Born into an austere rural situation, he stuck by home and family through tough times and discovered the fun of living and the benefits of choosing well. He received Canada's and Quebec's top honours for his chosen genres in the shooting sports of target archery and rifle. The young athletes of the Northeast Pontiac and Central Gatineau nicknamed him "The Chief" for his winning ways as their coach and mentor, and they still call him "The Chief." And anyone who hired him as their carpenter or builder will testify that all his doors still work very well....
