Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Business Practice in Elementary Schools Some teachers have regretted that the names of the cities and schools involved have not been given. It seems best, however, that such facts should not be published, as it would be unfair to give the ranking of these schools and cities without a statement of the causes accounting for their various standings. A statement of such causes, even if adequately known, would have fixed atten tion on the schools rather than on the results of the investigation as a whole. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Business Practice in Elementary Schools This study was conducted under the direction of Professor Henry W. Holmes of the Division of Education, Harvard University. Whatever merit the study has is in great measure due to his criticisms and suggestions. Mr. Edwin F. Field of the Mechanic Arts High School, Boston, gave many suggestions regarding the conclusions that are drawn. The superintendents who so readily permitted the questions to be given in their cities and the teachers who conducted the examinations have shown by their cheerful cooperation a widely prevailing readiness to help in any study likely to add to our knowledge of education. Some teachers have regretted that the names of the cities and schools involved have not been given. It seems best, however, that such facts should not be published, as it would be unfair to give the ranking of these schools and cities without a statement of the causes accounting for their various standings. Book Education for Business Classic Reprint

Download or read book Education for Business Classic Reprint written by Leverett S. Lyon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 608 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Education for Business This volume was prepared with the hope, expressed in the preface to the first edition, that it might be of service to general readers and to students in institutions giving teacher training. If the general reader had been the only reader contemplated, the clear expression of a point of view would have been the only matter of primary importance. But to make the book valuable to students, the evidence was laid out in some detail, conflicting attitudes were expressed, questions interpolated, and material otherwise introduced for the constant discussion and reaction of class work. These introductions into the skeleton of thought make it possible for the student to develop a view through his own thinking, but they constitute something of an interference to the reader who wishes to see quickly approach and conclusions only. There has therefore been added in this edition a final chapter which is something of a sketch of the book as a whole. It is hoped that this chapter may serve the general reader as a certification of viewpoint and the student as'a summary as well. As the title of the chapter indicates, there is also the belief that this summarized viewpoint may aid educators in applying the ideas of the book to practical situations. Book Our Daily Contacts With Business Classic Reprint

Download or read book Our Daily Contacts With Business Classic Reprint written by Max B. Greenstein and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 794 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Our Daily Contacts With Business The importance and value of elementary business train ing to the students entering upon a commercial course are well recognized. This is strongly evidenced by the adop tion of courses in this subject in many cities and states throughout the country. Depending upon the local needs of the community, these courses are organized into units of one term, one year, and even one year and a half. Where the one-year course is in effect, elementary business training is given in the ninth year of the junior high school, or in the first year of the regular four-year high-school course. Although this text is planned primarily to cover one year's work in the subject, the supervisor can, by careful selection or expansion of top ics, apply it to any of the programs mentioned above, since it has incorporated in it the material found in most courses in elementary business training. Elementary business training lays the groundwork for the specialized training that follows later in the commercial course. It helps the student to discover what aptitudes he has for the various phases of business, and what specialized course in the broad commercial curriculum is best for him. It is also of value to him as a worker in industry, or as a possible employer, and last but not least, elementary busi ness training has a profound significance for every indi vidual in the home and community. Book Meaning and Practice of Commercial Education Classic Reprint

Download or read book Meaning and Practice of Commercial Education Classic Reprint written by Cheesman A. Herrick and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-09 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Meaning and Practice of Commercial Education In dealing with the problems which the book presents we must begin where we are. Gradual and rational changes in our higher and secondary education and in the education supplementary to elementary education, this is not revolutionary, - and this is the suggestion of the book. It has sometimes been charged against the author that he aims to commercialize the whole school program. If this is understood as set forth'in the fol lowing pages, he accepts the charge. Commercialism has been much bandied about, and not a little misunderstood. Commercial methods are obvious in the work of some who decry commercialism; on the other hand, many business men are altruistic in the best sense. The kind of education urged in this book, it is believed, will teach men the meaning of business and raise commerce above narrow commercialism. Commerce we must have. Book Business Training and Commercial Education Classic Reprint

Download or read book Business Training and Commercial Education Classic Reprint written by Glen Levin Swiggett and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Business Training and Commercial Education This is due in a large measure to the fact that business training came as a late entrant to high school and college. The period of readjustment in accord with the established academic procedure in respect to admissions and graduations was and is coincident with a period of industrial and commercial expansion, the course of which has not always been under economic control. Sensing the economic gain to ensue through the correlation of training for and actual conduct of business, business educators and business men have endeavored in larger numbers and throughout a larger territory than ever before to obtain a program of coordinated educational opportunity and business need Avhich would give to business a natural movement of supply frpm the schools of bojs and girls, Tmeirand women, efficiently trained for the entafging delfmTfe and specific tasks of business. The motive of this approach has been cordial but not always timely, and has sometimes been ill-advised. Always the latter when the fundamental purpose of the public schools in a democracy Iras not been kept clearly a guiding principle in the establishment of special training courses. The division of labor in the field of distribution has not always been apparent as in that of production. The unit cost in marketing involves factors yet intangible. It is therefore difficult, involving uncertainty and change, to functionalize business training courses the major, nay the sole, purpose of which is to train for specific tasks of business. Experimentation, therefore, in this special field of educational endeavor is more evident in vocational business training than in the broader and more general aspects of liberal commercial education. And this is rightly so. We live in an economic era. Inter and intra national affairs are largely determined by economic advantages, and these are in a large degree conditioned by the magnitude of scale and measure of efficiency in management of industry and commerce. The need of constantly improved methods for increased production and salvage, in transportation, marketing, and financing, no matter in what field of development, has never been more apparent. Nor has there ever been a greater need for trained labor, whether of head or hand. The consciousness of this need has given to business education a position of commanding interest in business as well as in education. Commercial organizations. National, State, and local, place increasing emphasis on training and education for business and commerce. Programs in training for s)ecial types of business service similar in purpose and procedure to that of the American Institute of Banking have been developed and extended by other organized business service groups, for example, the National Association of Credit Men has planned a course of study to be offered by cooperative arrangement in the larger urban universities. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Business Practice: Or How Business Is Done The author claims that there is nothing in this book which should not be familiar to every such person. There are also many facts contained herein which cannot, from the nature of things, be incorporated in a series of transactions intended to illustrate business practice. These things the instructor may intend to point out incidentally, but without some regular time being set apart for them, and some previous study of the question being required, the opportunity will often pass and the student go uninstructed. Further experience may suggest some changes in the plan, and the addition of other matter, or a more extended treatment of some topics treated herein. To this end, criticisms and suggest ions are solicited, that future editions may be better suited to the wants of all.
