Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Business Methods and the War Class conducted in this School during the past seven years shows, no doubt, that military men can improve their efficiency by a study of civilian methods, and the wonderful success with which Transport and Supply have been managed during the present War shows this to be the case. It occurs to me, however, that quite possibly civilians might, with equal advantage, make some study of the soldier's methods of handling business, and, accordingly, in this short course of lectures which I have undertaken, I propose to start by making some comparison of military and civilian methods of business organisation, with a view to seeing whether this new point of view may not suggest some ideas that are well worth following up in the interests of business efficiency. Book The Way of the Warrior

Download or read book The Way of the Warrior written by James F. Dunnigan and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2014-12-16 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business and war: both are forms of conflict, and both have more in common than people think. Business, like war, is the art of outdoing the competition. Businesses, like armies, need to practice strategic thinking and understand the nature of competitive conflict. CEOs devise business plans to win in the marketplace; generals use strategic thinking to win wars. In The Way of the Warrior James Dunnigan and Daniel Masterson reveal the management lessons of history's finest twelve military leaders, including: Alexander the Great, on having vision; Genghis Khan, on quick decisions; Julius Caesar, on communication; Napoleon, on managing change; Ulysses S. Grant, on the art of the turnaround; Douglas MacArthur, on coping with disaster; and Norman Schwarzkopf, on building alliances. The management hubris of these men is directly applicable in today's business world. Comprehensive, insightful, and extremely accessible, The Way of the Warrior won't show you how to call in air strikes on the competition, but it will show you how to be a manager who never loses his cool under fire.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Business of War incisively interrogates the development and contemporary implications of the military-industrial complex. It exposes the moral dangers of life in neoliberal economies dependent upon war-making for their growth and brings the Christian tradition’s abundance of resources into conversation with this phenomenon. In doing so, the authors invite us to rethink the moral possibilities of Christian life in the present day with an eye toward faithful resistance to “the business of war” and its influence in every aspect of our lives. In combining biblical, historical, theological, and ethical analyses of “the business of war,” the authors invite us to better understand it as a new moral problem that demands a new, faithful response. Book Hope Is Not a Method

Download or read book Hope Is Not a Method written by Gordon R. Sullivan and published by Currency. This book was released on 1997-09-02 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the end of the Cold War, the United States Army has been reengineered and downsized more thoroughly than any other business. In the early 1990s, General Sullivan, army chief of staff, and Colonel Harper, his key strategic planner, took the post-Cold War army into the Information Age. Faced with a 40 percent reduction in staff and funding, they focused on new peacetime missions, dismantled a cumbersome bureaucracy, reinvented procedures, and set the guidelines for achieving a vast array of new goals. Hope Is Not a Method explains how they did it and shows how their experience is extremely relevant to today's businesses. From how to stay on top of long-range issues to how to maintain a productive work force during times of change, it offers invaluable lessons in leadership and provides proven tactics any business can implement.
