Book excerpt: How does a person coordinate the proper paperwork, travel time, cultural differences, language barriers, and political land mines that are inherent in doing business overseas? In "The American Entrepreneur in Asia: A Personal Journey of Global Proportions," author Irl Davis shares the intricate details of international business that he learned on his own personal journey. Some may be on a simple quest for information-finding resources, looking up Web sites, or subscribing to a magazine that caters to global entrepreneurs. Others may embark on an actual physical journey-to China, Taiwan, or one of the other countries detailed by Davis. Some may even be on a hypothetical journey, seeking answers to the 'what if" questions and 'maybe this" possibilities that need to be resolved before conducting business internationally. If you can answer yes to one or all of the following questions, then "The American Entrepreneur in Asia" has the information you need for successful international expansion: Are you planning to expand internationally? Do you feel that to remain competitive in today's marketplace you must transfer your manufacturing operations to a foreign country? Are you considering expanding your product lines to some of the fastest growing economies in the world?

Download or read book Fast Boat to China written by Andrew Ross and published by Vintage. This book was released on 2006-04-04 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most Americans today are aware that jobs are being outsourced to China, India, and other nations at an alarming rate. From factory jobs to white-collar, high-tech positions, the exporting of labor is one of the most controversial issues in America.Yet few people know much about the other end — about the people who are actually working these jobs and how their own lives have been throw into tumult by these new economic forces. Andrew Ross spent a year in China, interviewing local employees and their managers in Taiwan, Shanghai, and the far western provinces. In this engaging and informative book, he shows how the Chinese workforce has inherited many of the same worries as American workers, such as job instability, long hours, and awareness of their own expendability. He reports on the daily reality of corporate free trade and explores the growing competition between China and India. This is an eye-opening exploration of an unseen side of our globalized world.

Download or read book China s City Cluster Development in the Race to Carbon Neutrality written by Ali Cheshmehzangi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-12-03 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The scope of this book is to map China’s city clusters and their individual directions for the national-level strategies in line with the 2060 carbon neutrality plan. Since China announced the carbon neutrality plan in autumn 2020, no study has looked at the role of city clusters in achieving this long-term plan. Hence, this study is believed to be the first attempt to explore this important topic from the city cluster perspective. It explores the challenges, opportunities, and directions of all 19 city clusters, allowing readers to have a clear picture of China’s historical and ongoing progress, as well as the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. In a short time, China’s city clusters have helped boost regional economic development, infrastructure development, trade and business, and better urban–rural integration. With enhanced coordination of connection and transport networks in and between the city clusters, we see a growing number of initiatives beyond just the initial economic strategies. The dual approach of top-down policies and infrastructure systems and bottom-up governance and investments has helped China consider urban–rural development strategies and regional sustainable development. These factors are essential to be explored from the city cluster perspective and in line with China’s sustainable development and carbon neutrality directions. Hence, the book covers these points holistically, ensuring that regional planning and development are favored in the face of uneven urbanization trends. We anticipate this book to be a valuable resource for local governments and authorities, urban planners and practitioners, developers, and urban researchers. While the focus is on China’s city clusters, we believe there are similar examples elsewhere. Hence, lessons learnt from this book could apply to other countries, regions, and subregions. Lastly, the book aims to put regional sustainable development at the heart of longer-term strategies and plans, such as the case of China’s carbon neutrality plan.

Download or read book Integration Development in the China Yangtze River Delta written by Zhibiao Liu and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-11-29 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systematically investigates the strategic significance and dynamic mechanisms present in the development of the Yangtze River Delta cluster, one of the major drivers of economic growth in China. The Yangtze River Delta is the most densely populated region in China, with the highest level of economic development. Against the background of China’s national strategy that aims to bolster and augment integrated development on the regional level, this study reviews the development process of the region and possible hindrances to further growth. From a wide array of dimensions, it assesses the key influencing factors, including institutional construction, governance mechanisms, spatial layout, government and corporate competition, the market environment, industrial linkages and synergies, collaborative innovation, public service, and social networks. Based on theoretical analysis and empirical studies, the book advances policy suggestions that help to solve the challenges for integrated development in the region. The volume will benefit scholars and students, as well as investors, business observers, and policy makers interested in the Chinese economy, regional economics, industrial economics, and economic geography.
