Therein are printed from a MS in the British Museum the answers made by the Suffolk Clergy in 1603 to certain questions put to them by the Bishop; Two of those questions were, How many Communicants in your parish, and, How many recusants? Communicants and recusants would include between them the whole adult population and rather more, all who were about 15 years and upwards. In which case we have to add to these figures about the same proportionate number as to the figures of 1377 and 1381. That would give St Mary's parish 1180 persons, St James 932. Total 2112.
