Book Burning Irrigation Ditches

Download or read book Burning Irrigation Ditches written by John Derek Scasta and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Burning irrigation ditches and canals is an agricultural practice that dates back centuries and continues today to aid the delivery of water in the American West. A major challenge to effectively deliver water down natural irrigation ditches is the vegetation growth that fills ditches. The vegetation that accumulates in irrigation ditches slows the flow rate of the water and can reduce the total capacity of the ditch. In addition, this vegetation can also provide harbor insects and disease. If irrigation ditches are left uncleared, it is possible that gates and grates could clog and cause flooding (i.e., a blowout) in unintended locations – problems that burning can alleviate. Burning any natural vegetation is a complex task that comes with a certain level of risk. This factsheet provides an overview of burning irrigation ditches and includes a review of fire as a management tool, equipment needs and operations, safety considerations, weather considerations, timing of burning, relevant state and federal policies and regulations. The factsheet includes color photos, figures, and tables to illustrate how to safely and effectively burn irrigation ditches in Wyoming.

Former ELF spokesperson Craig Rosebraugh charts the history and ideology of the ELF and explores its tactics, successes, and limitations. Rosebraugh examines the question of whether or not violence is justifiable, along with the short- and long-term political benefits and drawbacks of using violence. He also offers a primer on the tactics of state repression and strategies the US government uses to destroy activist movements.Whatever your view of direct action or violence, Burning Rage of a Dying Planet is an illuminating read for anyone seeking to understand radical environmental movements and the government's response to them. This revised and updated edition has a foreword by Extinction Rebellion co-founder Tamsin Omond.

Book excerpt: In its northern fastness Britannia - despite all the benefits of the Pax Romana, with its technology and brutally rationalist philosophy - has kept its mysterious secrets, hidden deep in the wild forests that still cover much of the land. As the Empire gathers its forces, three young people hold the future in their hands: the Roman Viti, now known as Coll, Angus the mechanic-turned-revolutionary and Mirana the student, now in touch with strange powers. And as the cold, rational imperatives of Rome meet the wild magic of an older world, the Empire's dominion will at last be challenged. The Burning Forest: the triumphant conclusion to the magical epic A Land Fit for Heroes.

Book Fundamentals of Weed Science

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses herbicides and their use as an important aspect of modern weed management and strives to place them in an ecological framework. Many weed scientists believe agriculture is a continuing struggle with weeds--without good weed control, good and profitable agriculture is impossible. Each agricultural discipline sees itself as central to agriculture's success and continued progress, and weed science is no exception. While not denying the importance of weed management to successful agriculture, this book places it in a larger ecological context. The roles of culture, economics, and politics in weed management are also discussed, enabling scientists and students to understand the larger effects on society.
