Book excerpt: Mallory didn’t know dragon shifters existed, and now he wishes he’d never found out. The local dragon clan wants to take out the wolf pack, including Mallory’s friends, and he can’t let that happen. No one on their team will, and Mallory isn’t surprised when they all decide to follow his lead when he announces he’s taking a sabbatical from the conclave they work for. They’re staying with the pack, but not everyone is happy about that. Arlen and his best friend left the clan a long time ago, but he’s always known they would never truly be free. He’s not surprised when the clan continues selling drugs in his club, and when trying to talk to the clan leader doesn’t help. The clan won’t stop until they get what they want. Arlen didn’t expect to meet a vampire and fall for him, but when the club burns down, Mallory is there for him, along with his friends and family. It’s something Arlen never had beyond Merrick, and he can’t regret any of it, even though he lost the club. But the clan isn’t done with Arlen or with the pack. Can a bunch of vampires, two dragon shifters, and a recalcitrant pack win against them?

Book The View from the Grass Roots Another Look

Download or read book The View from the Grass Roots Another Look written by Gregory J. Rummo and published by . This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Confidently recommended reading, The View from the Grass Roots is filled from cover to cover with keen insights, profound thoughts, and a deep and diverse understanding of the human condition." -Midwest Book Review "[Rummo is] uniquely qualified . . . It is clear from the quality of his writing that he has been at this for quite a while. Plenty of exercise for the mind and soul." -Willard Samuel, Adjunct Scholar at Frontiers of Freedom "Greg Rummo is a great writer and a great human being, facts that shine like precious stones in his prolific output. I have trouble not hating him for his talent and energy." -Joe Klock, Sr., Author and Syndicated Columnist "Greg Rummo is one of my heroes. His book masterfully gives a cohesive view of liberal politics and biased media and the impact they have on the American culture. And he does it with engaging evidence." -Thomas Ciesielka, TC Public Relations "By approaching the latest public issues from the angle of religion, informed by Christianity, Gregory Rummo offers an attractive corrective to the assumptions often underlying coverage of stories in mainstream print media. His unashamed point of view can be infuriating . . . for example, to state his case, he often sets up so-called liberals as targets, then dismantles them by his arguments; it is a facile device. But there is much merit to what he says. And he is never mean. Which is high praise indeed." -Charles Saydah, Letters to the Editor, The Record

Book excerpt: In order to read the Gospel of St. John with some intelligence, it is necessary to understand its purpose and its plan. For in the whole range of literature there is no composition which is a more perfect work of art, or which more rigidly excludes whatever does not subserve its main end. From the first word to the last there is no paragraph, sentence, or expression which is out of its place, or with which we could dispense. Part hangs together with part in perfect balance. The sequence may at times be obscure, but sequence there always is. The relevancy of this or that remark may not at first sight be apparent, but irrelevancy is impossible to this writer. This book is one of the best interpretations of St. John's words. From the incarnation to the restauration of Peter, Dods leads the reader through fifty chapters full of new sights on this important book of the Bible.

Book A Northanger Abbey Double Feature

Download or read book A Northanger Abbey Double Feature written by Eliza Parsons and published by WordFire +ORM. This book was released on 2022-06-26 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A woman visits a haunted castle, and two friends share tales of the supernatural in these two gothic novels featured in Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey. In Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey, the main character, Catherine, receives a reading list of gothic novels. Once thought to be fabricated by Austen, these novels were rediscovered in the 1920s and are now referred to as the “Northanger Horrid Novels.” Two of the Northanger Horrid Novels, The Castle of Wolfenbach and The Necromancer, are presented here as A Northanger Double Feature. With hidden identities, damsels in distress, creepy castles, and villainous Counts, The Castle of Wolfenbach (1793) is a showcase for the gothic genre. The story follows the beautiful Matilda as she escapes unwanted advances, braves the haunted castle, and attempts to find safety, and maybe even love, all while being pursued by her murderous uncle. The Castle of Wolfenbach is Eliza Parsons’s most famous novel and an important foundational work in the gothic genre. The Necromancer (1794) is by far the strangest of the Northanger Horrid Novels. The story begins with two friends, Herman and Hellfried, passing a stormy night by exchanging supernatural stories. The weirdness continues to unfold through a series of letters. The work is an example of the gothic genre’s use of framing narratives surrounding first person accounts from multiple characters. The Necromancer takes this trope to staggering heights by nesting multiple narratives inside each other. The resulting stories are a bizarre collection of violence and supernatural shenanigans centered around the mysterious Valkert, who is rumored to have returned from the dead. Both of these stories are amazing examples of early gothic works and can be enjoyed as such for fans of the genre or read as a companion to Austen’s Northanger Abbey./
