Book excerpt: Leibniz Algebras: Structure and Classification is designed to introduce the reader to the theory of Leibniz algebras. Leibniz algebra is the generalization of Lie algebras. These algebras preserve a unique property of Lie algebras that the right multiplication operators are derivations. They first appeared in papers of A.M Blokh in the 1960s, under the name D-algebras, emphasizing their close relationship with derivations. The theory of D-algebras did not get as thorough an examination as it deserved immediately after its introduction. Later, the same algebras were introduced in 1993 by Jean-Louis Loday , who called them Leibniz algebras due to the identity they satisfy. The main motivation for the introduction of Leibniz algebras was to study the periodicity phenomena in algebraic K-theory. Nowadays, the theory of Leibniz algebras is one of the more actively developing areas of modern algebra. Along with (co)homological, structural and classification results on Leibniz algebras, some papers with various applications of the Leibniz algebras also appear now. However, the focus of this book is mainly on the classification problems of Leibniz algebras. Particularly, the authors propose a method of classification of a subclass of Leibniz algebras based on algebraic invariants. The method is applicable in the Lie algebras case as well. Features: Provides a systematic exposition of the theory of Leibniz algebras and recent results on Leibniz algebras Suitable for final year bachelor's students, master's students and PhD students going into research in the structural theory of finite-dimensional algebras, particularly, Lie and Leibniz algebras Covers important and more general parts of the structural theory of Leibniz algebras that are not addressed in other texts

Book Consequences of the Axiom of Choice

Download or read book Consequences of the Axiom of Choice written by Paul Howard and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1998 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, Consequences of the Axiom of Choice, is a comprehensive listing of statements that have been proved in the last 100 years using the axiom of choice. Each consequence, also referred to as a form of the axiom of choice, is assigned a number. Part I is a listing of the forms by number. In this part each form is given together with a listing of all statements known to be equivalent to it (equivalent in set theory without the axiom of choice). In Part II the forms are arranged by topic. In Part III we describe the models of set theory which are used to show non-implications between forms. Part IV, the notes section, contains definitions, summaries of important sub-areas and proofs that are not readily available elsewhere. Part V gives references for the relationships between forms and Part VI is the bibliography. Part VII is contained on the floppy disk which is enclosed in the book. It contains a table with form numbers as row and column headings. The entry in the table in row $n$, column $k$ gives the status of the implication ``form $n$ implies form $k$''. Software for easily extracting information from the table is also provided. Features: complete summary of all the work done in the last 100 years on statements that are weaker than the axiom of choice software provided gives complete, convenient access to information about relationships between the various consequences of the axiom of choice and about the models of set theory descriptions of more than 100 models used in the study of the axiom of choice an extensive bibliography About the software: Tables 1 and 2 are accessible on the PC-compatible software included with the book. In addition, the program maketex.c in the software package will create TeX files containing copies of Table 1 and Table 2 which may then be printed. (Tables 1 and 2 are also available at the authors' Web sites: http://www.math.purdue.edu/$\sim$jer/ or http://www.emunix.emich.edu/$\sim$phoward/.) Detailed instructions for setting up and using the software are included in the book's Introduction, and technical support is available directly from the authors.

  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-03-09
  • ISBN : 9401584788
  • Pages : 585 pages

Download or read book From Dedekind to G del written by Jaakko Hintikka and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discussions of the foundations of mathematics and their history are frequently restricted to logical issues in a narrow sense, or else to traditional problems of analytic philosophy. From Dedekind to Gödel: Essays on the Development of the Foundations of Mathematics illustrates the much greater variety of the actual developments in the foundations during the period covered. The viewpoints that serve this purpose included the foundational ideas of working mathematicians, such as Kronecker, Dedekind, Borel and the early Hilbert, and the development of notions like model and modelling, arbitrary function, completeness, and non-Archimedean structures. The philosophers discussed include not only the household names in logic, but also Husserl, Wittgenstein and Ramsey. Needless to say, such logically-oriented thinkers as Frege, Russell and Gödel are not entirely neglected, either. Audience: Everybody interested in the philosophy and/or history of mathematics will find this book interesting, giving frequently novel insights.

Book Bibliography of Mathematical Logic

Download or read book Bibliography of Mathematical Logic written by Heinz-Dieter Ebbinghaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gert H. Müller The growth of the number of publications in almost all scientific areas, as in the area of (mathematical) logic, is taken as a sign of our scientifically minded culture, but it also has a terrifying aspect. In addition, given the rapidly growing sophistica tion, specialization and hence subdivision of logic, researchers, students and teachers may have a hard time getting an overview of the existing literature, partic ularly if they do not have an extensive library available in their neighbourhood: they simply do not even know what to ask for! More specifically, if someone vaguely knows that something vaguely connected with his interests exists some where in the literature, he may not be able to find it even by searching through the publications scattered in the review journals. Answering this challenge was and is the central motivation for compiling this Bibliography. The Bibliography comprises (presently) the following six volumes (listed with the corresponding Editors): I. Classical Logic W. Rautenberg 11. Non-classical Logics W. Rautenberg 111. Model Theory H.-D. Ebbinghaus IV. Recursion Theory P.G. Hinman V. Set Theory A.R. Blass VI. ProofTheory; Constructive Mathematics J.E. Kister; D. van Dalen & A.S. Troelstra.

Book Mathematical Models of Infectious Diseases and Social Issues

Download or read book Mathematical Models of Infectious Diseases and Social Issues written by Shah, Nita H. and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-06-26 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When deadly illness spreads through a population at a rapid pace, time may be of the essence in order to save lives. Using mathematics as a language to interpret assumptions concerning the biological and population mechanics, one can make predictions by analyzing actual epidemiological data using mathematical tests and results. Mathematical models can help us understand the right disease status and predict the effects of the disease on populations, which can help limit the spread and devastation of the illness. Mathematical Models of Infectious Diseases and Social Issues is a collection of innovative research that examines the dynamics of diseases and their effect on populations. Featuring coverage of a broad range of topics including deterministic models, environmental pollution, and social issues, this book is ideally designed for diagnosticians, clinicians, healthcare providers, pharmacists, government health officials, policymakers, academicians, researchers, and students.

Book Fading and Shadowing in Wireless Systems

Download or read book Fading and Shadowing in Wireless Systems written by P. Mohana Shankar and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-05 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive overview of fading and shadowing in wireless channels. A number of statistical models including simple, hybrid, compound and cascaded ones are presented along with a detailed discussion of diversity techniques employed to mitigate the effects of fading and shadowing. The effects of co-channel interference before and after the implementation of diversity are also analyzed. To facilitate easy understanding of the models and the analysis, the background on probability and random variables is presented with relevant derivations of densities of the sums, products, ratios as well as order statistics of random variables. The book also provides material on digital modems of interest in wireless systems. The updated edition expands the background materials on probability by offering sections on Laplace and Mellin transforms, parameter estimation, statistical testing and receiver operating characteristics. Newer models for fading, shadowing and shadowed fading are included along with the analysis of diversity combining algorithms. In addition, this edition contains a new chapter on Cognitive Radio. Based on the response from readers of the First Edition, detailed Matlab scripts used in the preparation of this edition are provided. Wherever necessary, Maple scripts used are also provided.

Book An Invitation to Pursuit Evasion Games and Graph Theory

Download or read book An Invitation to Pursuit Evasion Games and Graph Theory written by Anthony Bonato and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2022-06-16 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Graphs measure interactions between objects such as friendship links on Twitter, transactions between Bitcoin users, and the flow of energy in a food chain. While graphs statically represent interacting systems, they may also be used to model dynamic interactions. For example, imagine an invisible evader loose on a graph, leaving only behind breadcrumb clues to their whereabouts. You set out with pursuers of your own, seeking out the evader's location. Would you be able to detect their location? If so, then how many resources are needed for detection, and how fast can that happen? These basic-seeming questions point towards the broad conceptual framework of pursuit-evasion games played on graphs. Central to pursuit-evasion games on graphs is the idea of optimizing certain parameters, whether they are the cop number, burning number, or localization number, for example. This book would be excellent for a second course in graph theory at the undergraduate or graduate level. It surveys different areas in graph searching and highlights many fascinating topics intersecting classical graph theory, geometry, and combinatorial designs. Each chapter ends with approximately twenty exercises and five larger scale projects.

Book INTERVAL TYPE 2 FUZZY SETS AND INTERVAL NEUTROSOPHIC SETS IN INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS

Download or read book INTERVAL TYPE 2 FUZZY SETS AND INTERVAL NEUTROSOPHIC SETS IN INTELLIGENT SYSTEMS written by M. LATHA MAHESWARI M. and published by Infinite Study. This book was released on with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this thesis, interval type-2 fuzzy sets (IT2FSs) and interval neutrosophic sets (INSs) have been considered for all the proposed concepts. Fusion of information is an essential task to get the optimized solution for any real world problem. In this task, aggregation operators are playing an important role in all the fields. Since most of the realistic problems have uncertainty in nature, one can use the logic of fuzzy and neutrosophic theory. For the entire proposed concepts interval based logic has been used as it handles more uncertainty.
