Book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations

Download or read book Dental Composite Materials for Direct Restorations written by Vesna Miletic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers both basic scientific and clinically relevant aspects of dental composite materials with a view to meeting the needs of researchers and practitioners. Following an introduction on their development, the composition of contemporary composites is analyzed. A chapter on polymerization explains the setting reactions and light sources available for light-cured composites. The quality of monomer-to-polymer conversion is a key factor for material properties. Polymerization shrinkage along with the associated stress remains among the most challenging issues regarding composite restorations. A new classification of dental composites is proposed to offer more clinically relevant ways of differentiating between commercially available materials. A review of specific types of composites provides an insight into their key issues. The potential biological issues of dental composites are reviewed in chapters on elution of leachable substances and cariogenicity of resin monomers. Clinical sections focus on material placement, finishing procedures, and the esthetics and clinical longevity of composite restorations. Bonding to tooth tissues is addressed in a separate chapter, as is the efficiency of various composite repair methods. The final chapter discusses future perspectives on dental composite materials.

Book Handbook of Bioceramics and Biocomposites

Download or read book Handbook of Bioceramics and Biocomposites written by Iulian Vasile Antoniac and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook describes several current trends in the development of bioceramics and biocomposites for clinical use in the repair, remodelling, and regeneration of bone tissue. Comprehensive coverage of these materials allows fundamental aspects of the science and engineering to be seen in close relation to the clinical performance of dental and orthopaedic implants. Bioceramics and biocomposites appear to be the most dynamic area of materials development for both tissue engineering and implantable medical devices. Almost all medical specialties will continue to benefit from these developments, but especially dentistry and orthopaedics. In this Handbook, leading researchers describe the use of bionanomaterials to create new functionalities when interfaced with biological molecules or structures. Also described are technologies for bioceramics and biocomposites processing in order to fabricate medical devices for clinical use. Another important section of the book is dedicated to tissue regeneration with development of new matrices. A targeted or personalized treatment device reduces drug consumption and treatment expenses, resulting in benefits to the patient and cost reductions for public health systems. This authoritative reference on the state-of-the-art in the development and use of bioceramics and biocomposites can also serve as the basis of instructional course lectures for audiences ranging from advanced undergraduate students to post-graduates in materials science and engineering and biomedical engineering.

Book Cuspal Deflection in Premolar Teeth Restored with Bulk Fill Resin Based Composite Materials

Download or read book Cuspal Deflection in Premolar Teeth Restored with Bulk Fill Resin Based Composite Materials written by Marwa Elsharkasi and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To investigate the effect of bulk-fill resin based composite materials on cuspal deflection in large slot mesio-occlusal-distal cavities (MOD) in premolar teeth. Methodology: Thirty-two sound maxillary premolar teeth with large slot MOD cavities were distributed to four groups (n=8). Three groups were restored with bulk-fill resin composite materials (Tetric EvoCeram, x-tra fil, and Sonic Fill, respectively) in a single increment. The conventional composite group, Filtek Z100, was used to restore the cavities in 2mm increments. Cusp deflection was recorded post irradiation using a Nikon measurescope UM-2 (Nikon, Tokyo, Japan), by measuring the changes in the bucco-palatal width of the premolar teeth at 5 minutes, 24 hours, and 48 hours after completion of the restoration. The cuspal deflection was obtained by recording the difference between the baseline measurements and the other measurements for each tooth. Results: Cuspal deflection was significantly higher in Conventional Composite than in Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill (p=0.0031), x-tra Fil Bulk (p=0.0029), and SonicFill Bulk (p=0.0002). There was no significant difference in cuspal deflection for Tetric EvoCeram Bulk, X-tra Fil Bulk, and SonicFill Bulk Composites. Conclusions: All the investigated bulk-fill resin composites exhibited cuspal deflection lower than conventional resin composite. One of the aims of research and studies on the resin composite materials is improving their clinical longevity, and simplifying their use. For that purpose bulk-fill materials are considered promising materials and further clinical studies should be conducted.

Download or read book Layers written by Jordi Manauta and published by Quintessenza. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the many advances of contemporary dental research in biomaterials and tissue regeneration, no dental material can perfectly correspond to natural tooth. The authors of this dynamic atlas posit that it is the mastery of layering technique and not the material itself that is most important in recreating natural- looking restorations. This reference book uses over a thousand images to explore the stratification of natural tooth and demonstrate solutions for how to arrange layers of composite resin to recreate the color, opacity, shape, and surface abnormalities of natural tooth. The authors provide step-by-step instruction in basic layering techniques as well as in advanced applications of dental characteristics, which are possible with a wide range of esthetic dental materials. In addition, each chapter is prefaced with insights from luminaries in esthetic dentistry, including Luiz Narciso Baratieri, Galip G rel, Pascal Magne, Francesco Mangani, Ricardo Mitrani, and Angelo Putignano, among others. Optimal stratification techniques not only create natural-looking beauty in restorations but also imitate the innate bioarchitecture of teeth, which is the foundation of functional and esthetic results.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resin materials are broadly used in dentistry for almost all indications, and they will gain even more importance in the future. Especially the increasing performance and efficiency of the CAD/CAM technology and 3D-printing open possibilities to use resins which were not used up to now in dentistry. Besides dentists, dental students or dental technicians, there are many other specialists such as researchers, material scientists, industrial developers or experts of adjoining professional disciplines who are technically engaged in dental resins. The "Expert Level" is the third book of the series "Dental Resins - Material Science & Technology". The "Expert Level" includes all information and data presented in the "Basic Level" and "Advanced Level" of this series, but enormously expands the knowledge base. From a total database of 8.198 references, 1.707 were selected and used for this textbook. It comprises more than 1,000 manuscript pages, 384 figures and 124 tables. The "Expert Level" describes very accurately and comprehensively all details of the material science and technology of dental polymers and composites. Furthermore, their production methods and applications are discussed in detail. Therefore, this book is a unique treatise of the complete present knowledge about dental resins and dental resin composites. This includes the discussion of the - raw/starting materials together with the explanation and presentation of their chemical structures and properties, their CAS Numbers and the names of the manufacturers. - amounts of the raw/starting materials usually used to formulate the finished products. - important material and toxicological properties of the starting materials and the finished products. - detailed description of the production processes of essential starting materials such as the syntheses of essential monomers, the silanization of inorganic fillers or the manufacturing of unfilled and filled splinter polymers. - detailed description of the formulation and the properties of the finished products. Furthermore, for many commercial endproducts rather detailed formulations as well as the exact production processes are described. All ISO standards that are relevant for dental resins are listed, too. Furthermore, many essential methods to test the mechanical, chemical and toxicological properties are also presented and explained. The "Expert Level" enables every scientist with a good chemical knowledge not only to understand how dental polymers function, but also to develop new and improved products.
