To wit, the book combines remote sensing and GIS techniques, runoff modeling, aquifer mapping, land use and land cover analyses, evapotranspiration estimation, crop coefficients, and water policy approaches. This will be of use to academics, policymakers, social scientists, and professionals involved in the various aspects of sustainable groundwater development, planning, and management.

Book The Archaeology of the N tha Samprad ya in Western India 12th to 15th Century

Download or read book The Archaeology of the N tha Samprad ya in Western India 12th to 15th Century written by Vijay Sarde and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies Nātha sampradāya through archaeological evidence for the first time. Drawing on a pioneering approach to the study of ascetic traditions, it investigates not only the nature of the Nātha sampradāya’s religious architecture but also examines the extent to which they shared space with other religious groups such as the devotees of Siva and Sakti, Buddhism, and Islam, especially with the Sufi tradition. Focusing on western India, the book sifts through a variety of archaeological evidence and documentation of their temples, caves, and maṭhas. It critically analyses iconographic representations of ascetics on temple walls and sculptural representations of yogic postures or āsanas. Further, these representations are discussed within a pan-South Asian framework to highlight both the commonalities of the tradition across the subcontinent and the regional specificities, along with their chronological spread. Breaking new ground, this volume will be of great interest to scholars and researchers of religion, especially Hinduism, history, archaeology, and South Asian studies.

Book Sustainable Watershed Development

Download or read book Sustainable Watershed Development written by Chaitanya Baliram Pande and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-09 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a case study on a semi-arid region, Maharashtra State, India, and discusses problems concerning a broad range of areas: sustainable watershed development; watershed management; groundwater condition; land and resource development plans; thematic maps on e.g. land use, soil types and soil erosion; groundwater recharge site selection; remote sensing and GIS; and soil and water conservation structures. Its goal is to promote awareness for sustainable watershed development and planning in semi-arid regions by highlighting the problems of, and plans for, groundwater and surface water pollution and sustainable watershed development. These aspects are of great importance to watershed and natural resources planning and management, and need to be exploited and managed sustainably. Given its scope, the book will be of interest to all scientists, research scholars and graduate students of remote sensing, hydrology, hydrogeology, water resource engineering, agricultural engineering and related areas who want to acquire detailed information on watershed planning and sustainable water resource planning in semi-arid regions, or to find new methodologies and techniques for studying the feedback mechanisms between forms and processes.

Book Water Management and Water Governance

Download or read book Water Management and Water Governance written by Ashish Pandey and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-11-11 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focusses on hydrological modeling, water management, and water governance. It covers the applications of remote sensing and GIS tools and techniques for land use and land cover classifications, estimation of precipitation, evaluation of morphological changes, and monitoring of soil moisture variability. Moreover, remote sensing and GIS techniques have been applied for crop mapping to assess cropping patterns, computation of reference crop evapotranspiration, and crop coefficient. Hydrological modeling studies have been carried out to address various issues in the water sector. MODFLOW model was successfully applied for groundwater modeling and groundwater recharge estimation. Runoff modeling has been carried out to simulate the snowmelt runoff together with the rainfall and sub-surface flow contributions for snow-fed basins. A study has been included, which predicts the impact of the land use and land cover on stream flow. Various problems in the water sector have been addressed employing hydrological models such as SWAT, ArcSWAT, and VIC. An experimental study has been presented wherein the laboratory performance of rainfall simulator has been evaluated. Hydrological modeling studies involving modifications in the curve number methodology for simulation of floods and sediment load have also been presented. This book is useful for academicians, water practitioners, scientists, water managers, environmentalists, and administrators, NGOs, researchers, and students who are involved in water management with the focus on hydrological modeling, water management, and water governance.

Book Challenges and Opportunities in Agrometeorology

This book was released on 2011-10-06 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global food security and sustainable agriculture are the key challenges before the scientific community in the present era of enhanced climate variability, rapidly rising population and dwindling resources. No part of the world is immune from meteorological extremes of one sort or another posing threat to the food security. Agrometeorology has to make most efficient use of the opportunities available in achieving the objectives of enhancing productivity and maintenance of sustainability. Increased awareness and technological advancement have provided opportunities to develop efficient agrometeorological services that can help cope with risks. These include improvements in weather forecasting, better understanding of the monsoon variability and crop-weather relationships, advances in operational agrometeorology and agrometeorological information systems, adaptation strategies to climate change and improved risk evaluation and management. This book based on an International Workshop held in New Delhi, India should be of interest to all organizations and agencies interested in agrometeorological applications.

During the last four decades, the agricultural sector of Maharashtra has undergone lots of changes. Though agricultural performance improved during the last forty years, its progress was not sustained and showed wide fluctuations. In fact, the important characteristics of Maharashtra agriculture are the instability in crop production and significant regional variations in the performance of agriculture in the state. The recent farmer suicides in Vidarbha and Marathawada have once again highlighted regional disparity in Maharashtra. The agrarian crisis in Vidarbha has spun almost out of control. There are a number of factors which limit the growth of agriculture over the years in the state. It is, therefore, necessary to look into the factors affecting agricultural growth.

This book was released on 2005 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Highlights the state of affairs in nine districts of the erstwhile Central Provinces and Berar, alongwith the interpretation of unknown facts, enlarging it from objective empiricism to historicism on the basis of sociological and historical perspectives. Salient Features (i) It identifies the changeability of the educational pattern from indigenous nature to modern perspectives at all levels. (ii) It highlights the emergence of leadership, new values, nationalism and freedom struggle and also shows how education works as condition, instrument and as an effect of social change in the region. (iii) It explains the extent of adoption and non-adoption of educational facilities at all levels in the context of socio-cultural conditions. (iv) It reveals how English models were initiated too slavishly, students were being crammed with undigested knowledge and teachers obsessed with results. (v) It highlights the Hitavada’s relentless crusade for a separate university, forecast of Jabalpur and Amravati Universities and demand for more autonomy in the province. (vi) It shows how the period of four decades in question transformed a society. (vii) It refers over-all educational backwardness of females, low-castes and aboriginal tribes with a growing assertion of claims to social and political recognition. (viii) It reveals how minorities’ interest in education became manifest through conferences and C.P. Legislative Council. (ix) It highlights positional and structural changes occurred due to education. In short, this book shows how poor ‘peripheral’ society of Vidarbha could make headway on the guidelines of ‘core’ societies and achieve the objective of ‘sustainable development’ through educational expansion.
