Book Islam the Misunderstood Religion

Download or read book Islam the Misunderstood Religion written by Danial Zainal Abidin and published by PTS Millennia. This book was released on 2007 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is surprising that Islam is gaining momentum in the West amidst negative media coverage. The surge of new converts on hostile ground proves that Islam is a true religion that needs reckoning by the West. On 7th October 2002, it was reported in St. Petersburg Times that “Every year, about 20 000 people in the United States convert to Islam, according to a study conducted by the Council on American-Islamic Relations.” On 22nd February 2004, Nicholas Hellen and Christopher Morgan reported in The Sunday Times that “More than 14 000 white Britons have converted to Islam after becoming disillusioned with western values, according to the first authoritative study of the phenomenon. Some of Britain’s top landowners, celebrities and the offspring of senior Establishment figures have embraced the strict tenets of the Muslim faith.” The intention of writing this book is not to create enmity or dissension, but to convey the truth about Islam. We pray to Allah that it will benefit everybody, Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Dr. Danial bin Zainal Abidin graduated from Alexandria University, Egypt and is a licensed medical practitioner. He is also the managing director of Danial Zainal Consultancy in Malaysia, a panelist for several TV programs in Malaysia, a columnist and author of 12 books.

Book God The Evidence

    Book Details:
  • Author : Patrick Glynn
  • Publisher : National Geographic Books
  • Release : 1999-03-30
  • ISBN : 0761519645
  • Pages : 0 pages

Download or read book God The Evidence written by Patrick Glynn and published by National Geographic Books. This book was released on 1999-03-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the modern age science has been winning its centuries—old battle with religion for the mind of man. The evidence has long seemed incontrovertible: Life was merely a product of blind chance—a cosmic roll of an infinite number of dice across an eternity of time. Slowly, methodically, scientists supplied answers to mysteries insufficiently explained by theologians. Reason pushed faith off into the shadows of mythology and superstition, while atheism became a badge of wisdom. Our culture, freed from moral obligation, explored the frontiers of secularism. God was dead. "Glynn's arguments for the existence of God put the burden of disproof on those intellectuals who think that the question has long since been settled." — Andrew M. Greeley But now, in the twilight of the twentieth century, a startling transformation is taking place in Western scientific and intellectual thought. At its heart is the dawning realization that the universe, far from being a sea of chaos, appears instead to be an intricately tuned mechanism whose every molecule, whose every physical law, seems to have been design from the very first nanosecond of the big bang toward a single end—the creation of life. This intellectually and spiritually riveting book asks a provocative question: Is science, the long-time nemesis of the Deity, uncovering the face of God? Patrick Glynn lays out the astonishing new evidence that caused him to turn away from the atheism he acquired as a student at Harvard and Cambridge. The facts are fascinating: Physicists are discovering an unexplainable order to the cosmos; medical researchers are reporting the extraordinary healing powers of prayer and are documenting credible accounts of near-death experiences; psychologists, who once considered belief in God to be a sign of neurosis, are finding instead that religious faith is a powerful elixir for mental health; and sociologists are now acknowledging the destructive consequences of a value-free society. God: The Evidence argues that faith today is not grounded in ignorance. It is where reason has been leading us all along.

Book The Makings of Indonesian Islam

Download or read book The Makings of Indonesian Islam written by Michael Laffan and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indonesian Islam is often portrayed as being intrinsically moderate by virtue of the role that mystical Sufism played in shaping its traditions. According to Western observers--from Dutch colonial administrators and orientalist scholars to modern anthropologists such as the late Clifford Geertz--Indonesia's peaceful interpretation of Islam has been perpetually under threat from outside by more violent, intolerant Islamic traditions that were originally imposed by conquering Arab armies. The Makings of Indonesian Islam challenges this widely accepted narrative, offering a more balanced assessment of the intellectual and cultural history of the most populous Muslim nation on Earth. Michael Laffan traces how the popular image of Indonesian Islam was shaped by encounters between colonial Dutch scholars and reformist Islamic thinkers. He shows how Dutch religious preoccupations sometimes echoed Muslim concerns about the relationship between faith and the state, and how Dutch-Islamic discourse throughout the long centuries of European colonialism helped give rise to Indonesia's distinctive national and religious culture. The Makings of Indonesian Islam presents Islamic and colonial history as an integrated whole, revealing the ways our understanding of Indonesian Islam, both past and present, came to be.

Finally, they reached the borders of Africa and Europe — a border separated by the narrow strip of a strait. The first commander to cross these straits and set foot on European soil was none other than Tariq ibn Ziyad. A brave and formidable warrior, Tariq was a smart strategist. He strategically took of advantage of the time the Christian rulers of Andalusia were engulfed in a civil war to attack and ultimately defeat them. Hence, the straits that he crossed was honoroubly named after him, as Jabal Tariq or Gibraltar. After the Andalusian soil was conquered, Tariq advanced towards Paris but was annihilated at the mountains of the Alps. Tariq was also forced to retreat because the Caliphs were worried they would lose contact with him. From then on forth, Andalusia became one of Europe’s shining stars amidst the dark ages.

It was a time when the Crusaders who conquered Baitulmaqdis wanted to expand their reign upon the divided Islamic nations. Rising up to protect the Islamic nations was Sultan Salahudin Al Ayubi. He successfully unified the broken nations and assembled a massive Muslim military of high calibre and discipline. United and strong, they successfully kept the Crusaders at bay and halted their invasion, returning Baitulmaqdis back into the hands of Islamic rulers. Yet, it did not end happily there. The European Crusades, led by King Richard of the Lionheart, thirsted for revenge. Under the King’s orders, they quickly executed their next move. The armies of the era’s two great kings struck swords. Emerging victorious from the clash of the kings was none other than Sultan Salahudin, who firmly held his reign over Baitulmaqdis. The city remained under Islamic rule until World War 2, where it fell to British occupation and into Christian hands as Jerusalem.
