Book Building Bridges in a World of Crumbling Connections

Download or read book Building Bridges in a World of Crumbling Connections written by Ronald Higdon and published by Energion Publications. This book was released on 2022-06-07 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What can you do when you see bridges between people breaking down all around you? What should you do? Dr. Ron Higdon has served many congregations and taught seminars over many years, helping people to learn to reach out to one another, learn to work together, and to resolve differences through dialog. In this short, non-technical book, he calls on us all to take up the task of building bridges. This involves both a commitment of the heart, and actions in the world around us that tend to create peace. Peacemaking can be a dangerous profession, but Dr. Higdon sees it as a crucial part of Christian living and Christian ministry. But this book goes beyond peacemaking, and presents strategies for bridge building and reconciliation in all of our relationships. It is about building community and understanding that is possible even in the midst of different perspectives and points of view on critical issues. The goal is to enable reconstruction and renewal of damaged connections that have resulted in distrust, suspicion, and isolation. “Are you reconciled?” is perhaps the biggest question and the major challenge in many families, communities, and, certainly, in our nation. Our time calls for those who can bring us together and enable us to live with mutual respect and commitment to the common good. The goal of this book is to present a prescription for building bridges of possibility. Anyone who would like to work toward that goal, will benefit from reading and studying it.

Jacqueline La-Touché was faced with the prejudice of being a teenage mother, feeling that she had to prove to her parents, and others, most of all herself that she could be the best mother that she could for her child. While she was still proving her worth, her life was rocked by yet another big decision that any girl, or woman could make in their life. In 1982 her parents immigrated to Jamaica, to fulfill their dreams, leaving her behind, and not knowing that their daughter would experience the unexpected and unknown, Life became a day to day battle, and one long nightmare, for this young mother. Destined for a life of hardship and heartache. Depravation haunted her life each day, a reminder of where she was, Nowhere'. Loveless and abusive relationships, played their part in her life, she felt trapped by her situation, as she remembered sayings of "you made your bed, so you lay in it", With no mother to turn to for guidance and strength, she raised her children, alone. Loss of control over her life, and ashamed to let anyone know, what her life represented at that time, heartache', a secret which she was ashamed of but was the only control that she had over her life could have ended it, She fought a daily battle, with herself, a love hate relationship, but then her life changed in a way that she never would have imagined, a way she had never known. Love and Happiness, comes into her life, and she is happy again, but for how long. Just as she thinks that all her troubles are over, they had only just begun. Faith dealt some cruel hands in this mother's life, her faith had been tested so many times, with family, friends, and all the people that were dear to her, the people that she had trusted and loved. Her life changes for the better, when she decides to make a positive change in her life, Jacqueline had become so engrossed in her problems, that she could not see the forest from the trees. A new life, discovering new things, places, relationships, happiness, and the three Gs, God Given Gifts, which she would learn to take control of, and embrace the good in herself, using it in a positive way. Life's ups and downs and big changes were still waiting to happen. Crossing rivers climbing mountains, how would she conquer them all, would she be able to find some sort of peace, and be able to build bridges, This is an inspiring account of Jacqueline La-Touches' life, and how she managed to endure, but not losing sight of her faith and hope, having the determination and courage to fight her way through life, and still believe in her dreams.

Book The Positive Impact Mindset

Download or read book The Positive Impact Mindset written by Katrin Muff and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-12-29 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are facing a new and urgent challenge when collaborating across organizations, and with broader stakeholder groups: how to overcome polarization. It has never been harder to find a common vision, when opinions are often considered as facts. This book empowers changemakers and business leaders to understand how successful organizations in the 21st century require leaders to become fluent in collaborating outside of traditional business boundaries. Such collaboration often involves working with parties that hold very different values, opinions and priorities, and working with them requires new skills. Building on the book Five Superpowers for Co-Creators, Katrin Muff presents a number of real-world examples that demonstrate how organizations have successfully managed to address these challenges. Examples of such unlikely but successful cross-sector collaboration include a project addressing plastic waste in Switzerland, and two European city government projects that reached out beyond organizational boundaries. The book features many stories of trial and error in overcoming the societal polarization gap. From all these insights emerges clear guidance as to how leaders and organizations can transform to new ‘outside-in’ mindsets to overcome polarization and develop a Positive Impact Mindset. The book is ideal for use by facilitators, educators, business and political leaders, and consultants, who are seeking solutions within an often polarized world to achieve sustainable change and a positive impact.

Book Taking Off Roofs and Building Bridges

Download or read book Taking Off Roofs and Building Bridges written by Alan J. Pihringer and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2022-09-27 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why don't they believe the same things I do? Why don't they see things my way? We get frustrated when people hold differing opinions from ours or view life's major issues from conflicting angles. Their system of belief (their worldview) seems foreign to us as they filter the events of this world in ways that we would never have imagined and then come to conclusions that we would never even consider. When other peoples' worldviews contradict ours, both of us cannot be right. Is there a way to account for the differences and determine if one is right and the other wrong? For the Christian especially, can we defend the Christian worldview in a way that upholds our entire system of belief and then opens the door to share the gospel with those who believe differently from us? The method of worldview apologetics enables the Christian to expose the faults in other worldviews, demonstrate the truth of the Christian worldview, and build a bridge for others to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. Both scholarly and practical, worldview apologetics equips the Christian to assess and critique differing belief systems and fulfill the call to Great Commission outreach.

Book The Human Mind and Belief 3 Reloaded

Download or read book The Human Mind and Belief 3 Reloaded written by Eugene G. Breen and published by Author House. This book was released on 2014 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Man's search for meaning is a perennial quest. The workings and desires and hopes and frustrations of the mind, tell us many things about it, and why it is the way it is. The awesome capacity of the entire person to become addicted to almost anything, throws a light on our strength and also our weakness. The human face is a shadow cast by the mind, and more often than not, it functions as a one-way mirror rather than a true reflection of what is going on beneath the surface. We become attached to people and things, and we actually love. The exhilaration of true joy crafted onto a robust scaffold of pain and disappointment and suffering and sorrow is counter intuitive yet very real. Joy in the possession of the beloved is as good as it gets "down here," but our minds pine for this bliss always. This longing for joy is not a vestigial structure in a once functional lobe of our primordial brains that has become atrophied due to disuse. It is the flicker of light at the end of our tunnel showing us the way to go. The human mind is truly a blueprint of our destiny.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A leading poet and a theologian reflect on the Old Testament story of Ruth, a tale that resonates deeply in today's world with its themes of migration, the stranger, mixed cultures and religions, law and leadership, women in public life, kindness, generosity and fear. Ruth's story speaks directly to many of the issues and deep differences that Brexit has exposed and to the polarisation taking place in many societies. Pádraig Ó Tuama and Glenn Jordan bring the redemptive power of Ruth to bear on today's seemingly intractable social and political divisions, reflecting on its challenges and how it can help us be effective in the public square, amplify voices which are silenced, and be communities of faith in our present day. Over the last year, the material that inspired this book has been used with over 6000 people as a public theology initiative from Corrymeela, Ireland's longest-established peace and reconciliation centre. It has been met with an overwhelming response because of its immediacy and relevance, enabling people with opposing views to come together and be heard.

Book Building Bridges Between Chan Buddhism and Confucianism

Download or read book Building Bridges Between Chan Buddhism and Confucianism written by Diana Arghirescu and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2022-12-06 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Building Bridges between Chan Buddhism and Confucianism, Diana Arghirescu explores the close connections between Buddhism and Confucianism during China's Song period (960–1279). Drawing on In Essays on Assisting the Teaching written by Chan monk-scholar Qisong (1007–1072), Arghirescu examines the influences between the two traditions. In his writings, Qisong made the first substantial efforts to compare the major dimensions of Confucian and Chan Buddhist thought from a philosophical view, seeking to establish a meaningful and influential intellectual and ethical bridge between them. Arghirescu meticulously reveals a "Confucianized" dimension of Qisong's thought, showing how he revisited and reinterpreted Confucian terminology in his special form of Chan aimed at his contemporary Confucian readers and auditors "who do not know Buddhism." Qisong's form of eleventh-century Chan, she argues, is unique in its cohesive or nondual perspective on Chinese Buddhist, Confucian, and other philosophical traditions, which considers all of them to be interdependent and to share a common root. Building Bridges between Chan Buddhism and Confucianism is the first book to identify, examine, and expand on a series of Confucian concepts and virtues that were specifically identified and discussed from a Buddhist perspective by a historical Buddhist writer. It represents a major contribution in the comparative understanding of both traditions.
