Download or read book What s Bugging Me Identifying and Controlling Household Pests in Hawaii written by JoAnn M. Tenorio and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 1995-12-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors of the popular and informative What Bit Me? Identifying Hawaii's Stinging and Biting Insects and their Kin answer these and other questions in this long-awaited standard reference on Hawaii's household "bugs." What's Bugging Me? helps you identify those ants, spiders, termites, beetles, silverfish, and cockroaches that invade your home and offers effective strategies for dealing with them. A range of anti-pest weapons--not just chemicals--is given, emphasizing a modern "integrated control" approach. What's Bugging Me? teaches techniques for prevention, early detection, and monitoring of pest problems. It recommends specific methods that target the pest, not methods that merely poison the environment. Many inexpensive home remedies are suggested. In every-day language accessible to homeowners and apartment dwellers, the authors provide a wealth of authoritative information that will also benefit pest control operators, landscapers, builders, and entomology professionals.
Download or read book June Bug s Grocery and the Cornfield Jook written by Mary Sterner Lawson and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vibrant South Georgia scene was pure Americana-a picturesque, old-fashioned grocery store next to a thriving jook joint in the heart of a South Albany African-American community. Originally more secluded, this nucleus of the neighborhood became a familiar sight to all Albany residents with the opening in the 1980s of a roadway that passed by the scene and across a new bridge over the nearby Flint River. The waters of the Flint proved to be much too near in 1994, when a catastrophic flood damaged beyond repair the grocery, jook, and hundreds of homes along the river. Deeply touched by that enormous community loss, Mary Sterner Lawson used her own 1987 photographs to paint a watercolor of the once-flourishing South Albany scene. She never imagined how overwhelming the public response would be when the painting was exhibited in the main lobby of a busy local hospital in 1996. A veritable flood of reminiscences came her way-tales of childhood memories, community gatherings, friendships, brotherhood, families, prostitution, moonshine, and murder. Inspired by the community members who encouraged and aided her efforts, Lawson began recording the rich recollections. June Bug's Grocery and the Cornfield Jook registers these voices of the community, the voices behind the painting.
Download or read book The Dogwood Collection Dogwood June Bug Almost Heaven written by Chris Fabry and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2016-03-11 with total page 1110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Dogwood Collection bundles three of Chris Fabry’s beloved contemporary fiction titles into one e-book for a great value! Dogwood (2009 Christy Award winner): In the small town of Dogwood, West Virginia, Karin has buried her shattered dreams by settling for a faithful husband whose emotional distance from her deep passions and conflicts leaves her isolated. Loaded with guilt, she tries to raise three small children and “do life” the best she can. Will returns to Dogwood intent on pursuing the only woman he has ever loved—only to find there is far more standing in his way than lost years in prison. The secrets of Will and Karin's past begin to emerge through Danny Boyd, a young boy who wishes he hadn't survived the tragedy that knit those two together as well as tore them apart. The trigger that will lay their pain bare and force them to face it rather than flee is the unlikely figure of Ruthie Bowles, a withered, wiry old woman who leads Karin so deep into her anger against God that it forces unexpected consequences. June Bug (Now a Lifetime original movie titled Child of Grace): “I believed everything my daddy told me until I walked into Wal-Mart and saw my picture on a little poster . . .” For as long as she can remember, June Bug and her father have traveled the back roads of the country in their beat-up RV, spending many nights parked at Wal-Mart. One morning, as she walks past the greeter at the front of the store, her eyes are drawn to the pictures of missing children, where she is shocked to see herself. This discovery begins a quest for the truth about her father, the mother he rarely speaks about, and ultimately herself. But when her father’s past catches up with them, forces beyond his control draw them back to Dogwood, West Virginia, down a winding path that will change their lives forever. Almost Heaven (2011 ECPA Christian Book Award winner for fiction / 2011 Christy Award Winner for contemporary standalone novel): Billy Allman is a hillbilly genius. People in Dogwood, West Virginia, say he was born with a second helping of brains and a gift for playing the mandolin but was cut short on social skills. Though he’d gladly give you the shirt off his back, they were right. Billy longs to use his life as an ode to God, a lyrical, beautiful bluegrass song played with a finely tuned heart. So with spare parts from a lifetime of collecting, he builds a radio station in his own home. People in town laugh. But Billy carries a brutal secret that keeps him from significance and purpose. Things always seem to go wrong for him. However small his life seems, from a different perspective Billy’s song reaches far beyond the hills and hollers he calls home. Malachi is an angel sent to observe Billy. Though it is not his dream assignment, Malachi follows the man and begins to see the bigger picture of how each painful step Billy takes is a note added to a beautiful symphony that will forever change the lives of those who hear it.

Download or read book War Bug written by Henry G. Brinton and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-02-29 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States is more fractured today than it has been since the Civil War. What hope do we have for the healing of our communities, shattered by a global pandemic and a toxic political environment? War Bug opens a window on the riverfront town of Occoquan, Virginia, and offers glimpses of social upheaval through chapters that alternate between the nineteenth and twenty-first centuries. In 1862, Quaker resident Ann Bagley fears that her sons will abandon their pacifism and join the newly established Confederate army. Troops march through the town and shots are fired, enflaming secessionists and Unionists alike. Many pledge their support to the South and send their sons to fight, while others favor the North and take stands as abolitionists. In 2022, Harley Camden, the pastor of struggling Riverside Methodist Church, fears that civil war will return to Occoquan. Facing cultural and political polarization, he tries to care for his congregation and keep the peace, even as he lends a hand in the archaeological dig of a Quaker house with a mysterious grave. But when people begin to die in acts of brutal violence, he encounters an evil that is deeper than history and more deadly than partisan strife.
