Book Influence of In Plane Boundary Conditions on the Buckling of Clamped Conical Shells

Download or read book Influence of In Plane Boundary Conditions on the Buckling of Clamped Conical Shells written by Josef Singer and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influence of the different in-plane boundary conditions on the buckling loads of clamped conical shells under external pressure are studied with the displacement method developed earlier by Baruch, Harari and Singer. The analysis is based on Donnell type stability equations with a membrane solution for the prebuckling stresses. (Author).

Book Buckling of Structures

Download or read book Buckling of Structures written by I. Elishakoff and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of papers, written by friends and colleagues of Josef Singer, presents a comprehensive and timely review of the theoretical mechanics of thin shell-structures. Topics of great current interest such as the buckling of composite plates and shells, the plastic buckling of thin-walled structures and the optimum design of buckling sensitive curved composite panels are examined by experts, using a great diversity of approaches, whereby theoretical predictions are compared with experimental results whenever possible.Other topics reviewed include the buckling and post-buckling behaviour of imperfect shells under different external static or dynamic loads and a variety of boundary conditions. Papers dealing with the vibration and the dynamic response of thin elastic bodies are also presented.A strong emphasis is made on the practical applications aspect in the theories presented. Thus engineers, research workers and students who are involved with the design and analysis of shell structures made of different materials, and subjected to various static and dynamic loads will find this volume an invaluable source of reference.

Book Buckling of Conical Shells Under External Pressure Torsion and Axial Compression

Download or read book Buckling of Conical Shells Under External Pressure Torsion and Axial Compression written by Josef Singer and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method for the analysis of the instability of thin conical shells under external pressure is extended to buckling under torsion and combined torsion and external or internal pressure as well as axisymmetric temperature distributions. The method is based on solution of modified Donnell type stability equations, in the presence of slightly relaxed boundary conditions for the u and v displacements. Two formulations of the solution for torsion and combined loadings are given and compared. For conical shells of small and medium taper ratio, the interaction curves may be approximated by the semi- empirical curve of Crate, Batdorf and Baab (The Effect of Internal Pressure on The Buckling Stress of Thin Walled Circular Cylinders Under Torsion, NACA AAR No. 14E27, May 1944) for cylindrical shells, but for large taper ratio different curves are obtained. Tests of 33 steel, Alclad, and Al alloy conical shells of varying geometries are described. The buckling and postbuckling behavior and the effect of initial out-of-roundness are discussed. The results of another experimental program on the instability of thin truncated conical shells in torsion and under the combined loading of external pressure and torsion are given, and compared with theory.

Book Buckling of Circular Conical Shells Under Axisymmetric External Pressure

Download or read book Buckling of Circular Conical Shells Under Axisymmetric External Pressure written by Josef Singer and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The stability equations for thin conical shells derived by Seide (J. Appl. Mechanics, 24, No. 4, 547; Dec 1957) are solved for loading under hydrostatic pressure and lateral pressure varying in the axial direction. The solution implies slightly relaxed boundary conditions for the u and v displacements, but for the w displacements the usual conditions of simple supports are enforced rigorously. The stability equation in the radial direction is rederived in a modified form similar to that given by Batdorf (NACA Report 874, 1947) for cylindrical shells and is solved by the Galerkin method. Results for the case of hydrostatic pressure are compared with those obtained by Hoff (AFDSR TR (Final) 59203, Dec 1959) in an analysis restricted to small cone angles, and with the results found by other investigators. Book Buckling of Shallow Spherical Shells Under External Pressure Classic Reprint

Download or read book Buckling of Shallow Spherical Shells Under External Pressure Classic Reprint written by Edward L. Reiss and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Buckling of Shallow Spherical Shells Under External Pressure The pressure to which the shell jumps is called the final buckling load. The purpose of this paper is to determine the values of por for various shell configurations. A series of experiments have been conducted by Kaplan and Fung (1) on clamped, shallow, Spherical shells under uniform external pressure. Not only were the initial and final buckling loads determined, but measurements were made of the vertical deflections at various points of the shell for several different values of the pressure. Book Preliminary Design Procedure for End Rings of Isotropic Conical Shells Loaded by External Pressure

Download or read book Preliminary Design Procedure for End Rings of Isotropic Conical Shells Loaded by External Pressure written by Sidney C. Dixon and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effect of ring size on the buckling of truncated isotropic conical shells supported at the ends by rings and subjected to hydrostatic- or lateral pressure loadings has been studied. Results were obtained from an approximate theory based on Donnell-type shell theory and a membrane prestress state. For a given shell geometry, the ring properties were varied to determine the smallest ring required to provide the equivalent of essentially clamped support. For a particular application, this procedure yielded the minimum mass of the shell-ring configuration. A nondimensional stiffness parameter was determined which correlated, in general, the results for the entire range of ring and shell geometries considered. Approximate formulas are presented for the preliminary design of rings with both closed (circular and square) and open (I and Z) cross sections.
