Book Bubble Growth Rate and Heat Transfer Suppression in the Flow Boiling of Binary Mixtures

Download or read book Bubble Growth Rate and Heat Transfer Suppression in the Flow Boiling of Binary Mixtures written by Taavo Raykoff and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An investigation is undertaken into the nature of the bubble growth rate and heat transfer suppression in the flow boiling of binary mixtures. From an examination of the well established pool boiling theory available in the literature and a consideration of factors uniquely present in flow boiling situations, it is determined that the present pool boiling theories are roughly applicable for a finite initial interval of the bubble growth cycle during flow boiling. Furthermore, it is hypothesized that the suppression of the increase in heat transfer coefficient in binary fluids which occurs after the onset of nucleate boiling is related to the suppression in bubble growth rates. Experimental data of bubble growth rate and heat transfer coefficient for flow boiling of a binary mixture of ethylene glycol and water at various conditions is acquired, and tested relative to these conclusions. The results are in agreement within the experimental range of uncertainty."--Abstract.

Book An Analytical and Experimental Study of the Thermal Boundary Layer and Ebullition Cycle in Nucleate Boiling

Download or read book An Analytical and Experimental Study of the Thermal Boundary Layer and Ebullition Cycle in Nucleate Boiling written by Yih-Yun Hsu and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ebullition cycle of nucleate pool boiling from a heating strip was studied through the use of high-speed motion pictures of schlieren and shadowgraph images. The effects of bubble agitation on thermal layer and neighboring bubbles were observed. An over-all model of ebullition based upon experimental observation was proposed that included an analytical method for predicting bubble growth rate and an analysis of the factors that influence the magnitude of the waiting period (time interval between bubbles at a particular site). Thermal-layer thickness, cavity size, and area of influence of a growing bubble are considered. A film supplement is made available. (Author).

Book Theory and Fundamental Research in Heat Transfer

Download or read book Theory and Fundamental Research in Heat Transfer written by J. A. Clark and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theory and Fundamental Research in Heat Transfer focuses on the processes, methodologies, reactions, and mechanisms involved in heat transfer. The selection first offers information on thermal radiation characteristics of surfaces, including intensity of radiation, intensity of emission and angular emittance, reflectance relationships, diffuse reflector, hemispherical and total reflectances, reflectivity of homogeneous isotropic polished surfaces, and angular total remittance measurements. The text then takes a look at heat transfer in rarefied gas flow, as well as accommodation coefficient and free molecule transfer, near free molecule heat transfer, continuum heat transfer regimes, and transitional regime. The publication ponders on boiling heat transfer and plasma heat transfer. Turbulent heat transfer in stratified flow, thermal conductivity of solids, and studies on quantitative spectroscopy and gas emissivities are also discussed. Topics include emissivity calculations, mechanisms of thermal conductivity, and conductivity at low and intermediate temperatures. The selection is a dependable reference for readers interested in the processes, reactions, and mechanisms involved in heat transfer.
