Book Fundamentals of Momentum Heat and Mass Transfer

Download or read book Fundamentals of Momentum Heat and Mass Transfer written by James Welty and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-06-23 with total page 783 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field’s essential standard for more than three decades, Fundamentals of Momentum, Heat and Mass Transfer offers a systematic introduction to transport phenomena and rate processes. Thorough coverage of central principles helps students build a foundational knowledge base while developing vital analysis and problem solving skills. Momentum, heat, and mass transfer are introduced sequentially for clarity of concept and logical organization of processes, while examples of modern applications illustrate real-world practices and strengthen student comprehension. Designed to keep the focus on concept over content, this text uses accessible language and efficient pedagogy to streamline student mastery and facilitate further exploration. Abundant examples, practice problems, and illustrations reinforce basic principles, while extensive tables simplify comparisons of the various states of matter. Detailed coverage of topics including dimensional analysis, viscous flow, conduction, convection, and molecular diffusion provide broadly-relevant guidance for undergraduates at the sophomore or junior level, with special significance to students of chemical, mechanical, environmental, and biochemical engineering.

Book Bioreaction Engineering Principles

Download or read book Bioreaction Engineering Principles written by John Villadsen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-12 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present text is a complete revision of the 2nd edition from 2003 of the book with the same title. In recognition of the fast pace at which biotechnology is moving we have rewritten several chapters to include new scientific progress in the field from 2000 to 2010. More important we have changed the focus of the book to support its use, not only in universities, but also as a guide to design new processes and equipment in the bio-industry. A new chapter has been included on the prospects of the bio-refinery to replace many of the oil- and gas based processes for production of especially bulk chemicals. This chapter also serves to make students in Chemical Engineering and in the Bio-Sciences enthusiastic about the whole research field. As in previous editions we hope that the book can be used as textbook for classes, even at the undergraduate level, where chemical engineering students come to work side by side with students from biochemistry and microbiology. To help the chemical engineering students Chapter 1 includes a brief review of the most important parts of microbial metabolism. In our opinion this review is sufficient to understand microbial physiology at a sufficiently high level to profit from the rest of the book. Likewise the bio-students will not be overwhelmed by mathematics, but since the objective of the book is to teach quantitative process analysis and process design at a hands-on level some mathematics and model analysis is needed. We hope that the about 100 detailed examples and text notes, together with many instructive problems will be sufficient to illustrate how model analysis is used, also in Bio-reaction Engineering.

Book Bioreaction Engineering Principles

Download or read book Bioreaction Engineering Principles written by Jens Nielsen and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 537 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the second edition of the text "Bioreaction Engineering Principles" by Jens Nielsen and John Villadsen, originally published in 1994 by Plenum Press (now part of Kluwer). Time runs fast in Biotechnology, and when Kluwer Plenum stopped reprinting the first edition and asked us to make a second, revised edition we happily accepted. A text on bioreactions written in the early 1990's will not reflect the enormous development of experimental as well as theoretical aspects of cellular reactions during the past decade. In the preface to the first edition we admitted to be newcomers in the field. One of us (JV) has had 10 more years of job training in biotechnology, and the younger author (IN) has now received international recognition for his work with the hottest topics of "modem" biotechnology. Furthermore we are happy to have induced Gunnar Liden, professor of chemical reaction engineering at our sister university in Lund, Sweden to join us as co-author of the second edition. His contribution, especially on the chemical engineering aspects of "real" bioreactors has been of the greatest value. Chapter 8 of the present edition is largely unchanged from the first edition. We wish to thank professor Martin Hjortso from LSU for his substantial help with this chapter.

Book Fermentation Processes Engineering in the Food Industry

Download or read book Fermentation Processes Engineering in the Food Industry written by Carlos Ricardo Soccol and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-03-27 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the advent of modern tools of molecular biology and genetic engineering and new skills in metabolic engineering and synthetic biology, fermentation technology for industrial applications has developed enormously in recent years. Reflecting these advances, Fermentation Processes Engineering in the Food Industry explores the state of the art of the engineering technology aspects of fermentation processes in diverse food sectors. The book describes the benefits of fermented foods in human health in both dairy and non-dairy products and beverages. It examines applications of microalgae in the food industry and explains the application of metabolic engineering in the production of fermented food ingredients. Exploring a host of important topics in engineering fermentation processes, the book covers topics such as: Methods and techniques for the isolation, improvement, and preservation of the microbial cultures used in the food fermentation industry The fundamentals of fermentation processes, modes of fermentation, and the principles of upstream operation Physical and chemicals factors that affect fermentation processes Different types of fermenters employed in submerged and solid-state fermentation Unitary operations for solid-liquid separation, concentration, and drying of fermented foods Instrumentation and control of industrial fermentation processes The final chapter discusses the potential application of a biorefinery concept to add value to food industry wastes and presents a case study describing an integrated project in which the concept was applied. An essential reference for all food sector professionals, this volume surveys critical trends in the food, beverage, and additive industry and explores the sustainability of these processes.

Book Fundamentals of microscale bubbles in process engineering Band 9

Download or read book Fundamentals of microscale bubbles in process engineering Band 9 written by Simon Matthes and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021-10-25 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiphase contact apparatuses are widely used in the chemical and biocatalytic process industry in which a gaseous reactant has to be supplied. The achievement of high mass transfer rates with regard to process efficiency is mostly challenging. In this work a novel aeration technique based on fine bubbles with diameters smaller 100 µm is experimentally analyzed, providing large interfacial areas for the mass transfer process. The experiments show the benefit of using fine bubbles by reaching significantly higher mass transfer rates compared to conventional aeration. Especially stirred tank reactors prove to be most suitable for fine bubble aeration. Finally, models are developed, describing the mass transfer characteristics at microscales.
