Book Biogeochemistry of Trace Elements in the Rhizosphere

Download or read book Biogeochemistry of Trace Elements in the Rhizosphere written by G.R. Gobran and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-11 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rhizosphere in soil environments refers to the narrow zone of soil influenced by the root and exudates. Microbial populations in the rhizosphere can be 10 - 100 times larger than the populations in the bulk soil. Therefore, the rhizosphere is bathed in root exudates and microbial metabolites and the chemistry and biology at the soil-root interface is governed by biotic (plant roots, microbes) and abiotic (physical and chemical) interactions. The research on biotic and abiotic interactions in the rhizosphere should, thus, be an issue of intense interest for years to come. This book, which consists of 15 chapters, addresses a variety of issues on fundamentals of microscopic levels and the impact on food chain contamination and the terrestrial ecosystem. It is an essential reference work for chemists and biologists studying environmental systems, as well as earth, soil and environmental scientists.* 15 chapter book, which addresses a variety of issues on fundamentals of microscopic levels and the impact on food chain contamination and the terrestrial ecosystem

Book Electrochemistry in Research and Development

Download or read book Electrochemistry in Research and Development written by R. Kalvoda and published by Springer. This book was released on 1985 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers presented at the UNESCO Scientific Forum on Chemistry in the Service of Mankind - Electrochemistry in Research and Development, held in Paris, June 4-6, 1984. Electrochemistry is concerned with the way electricity produces chemical changes and in turn chemical changes result in the production of electricity. This interaction forms the basis for an enormous variety of processes ranging from heavy industry through batteries to biological phenomena. Although there are many established applications, modern research has led to a great expansion in the possibilities for using electrochemistry in exciting future developments. To encourage this progress, UNESCO has set up an Expert Committee on Electrochemistry and its Applications in the European and North American region, which has already held a number of meetings devoted to specific topics. To achieve a synthesis of the main directions of development and to demonstrate the importance of these for the needs of our modern society, the Expert Committee organized a Forum on Electrochemistry in Research and Development. The object of this was to assess the future trends in research and development and to establish a dialogue between experts in electrochemistry and their colleagues in the many other disciplines which can make use of electrochemistry. The Forum was also intended to present electrochemistry and its applications in a form accessible to non-specialists so that science policy-makers will be aware of the potentialities of this subject for the future needs of mankind.

Book Electrochemical Detectors

Download or read book Electrochemical Detectors written by T. Ryan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-02-12 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The widely perceived utility of electrochemical detectors in High Performance Liquid Chromatography has focussed attention on a number of disparate aspects of electrochemistry related to their successful design and application. The papers in this volume deal with an extraordinarily wide range of topics but all have the common focus of electrochemical detection as a practical chromatographic tool. While it is certainly not essential to be familiar with the theoretical principles in order to utilize it successfully, the determined user of electrochemical detector will seek to have an understanding of the background. Some of the following pages will provide an excellent grounding as well as pointing the potential user in the direction of proven and possible applications in a variety of fields. The meeting, of which this book is a record, was the fifth event in the biannual Anglo-Czech Symposia in Electrochemistry. The organ izers of that meeting were extremely pleased to welcome a select group of scientists from the J Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry to the meeting, thus continuing a tradition of cooperation and friendship going back over ten years. The contributions of the visitors to the scientific content of the meeting were enthusiastically received and their participation in the informal and social activities can only have furthered the cause of cooperation and good will between our two countries.
