  • Publisher : Notion Press
  • Release : 2021-04-07
  • ISBN : 1638325219
  • Pages : 313 pages

Download or read book Grace written by Jyoti Mestry and published by Notion Press. This book was released on 2021-04-07 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have written the book with the sole aim to make an honest attempt to share my subjective experiences and objective observations that have transformed my life from the day my path crossed with that of Grace’s. The presence of pure unconditional love and undeniably full proof loyalty changed the layers of my life’s fabric. I wish the would-be pet-parents will take a clue from the content and avoid making any mistakes that I made knowingly and unknowingly. I am also rooting for the cause of strict ban/control over breeding, sale of pets. I want to promote adoption of the pets instead of purchase. I hope the readers identify with and enjoy our moments and also get the message while turning the pages. I have tried to be unflinchingly honest about my feelings for Grace. In doing so, I am sorry if some feathers are ruffled but the intention is not at all to do so. Without any doubt or hesitation, the worst part of the process of writing this journey is that it has made me feel emotionally exposed. I wish the would-be parents realize, absorb the fact that we are chosen and blessed and must be grateful to the Universe for having our life immersed in rainbow colors. There is undoubtedly always a purpose when a pet walks in your life. From being not a pet lover to helicopter pet mom has been nevertheless a revolutionary change in my life. This bond surpasses all the pleasures derived from all the materialistic things or relations. That is my personal ultimate realization. She has taken me on unchartered journey through the stratosphere. It is a walk into the unknown and I am hoping this walk will be a long one. After all it is the “journey”, that is more important than the destination itself! I can guarantee you that it is no less than a spiritual awakening without even realizing. So my friends hold my hand and join my rollercoaster ride with Grace. The journey continues……with a promise to join you all with the next lifelogue!

A novel that grows more complex and more uproarious by the page, culminating in an unforgettable climax." --Entertainment Weekly (The Must List) A Real Simple Best Book of the Year (So Far) A vibrant and perceptive novel about a father's plot to win back his children's inheritance Arthur Alter is in trouble. A middling professor at a Midwestern college, he can't afford his mortgage, he's exasperated his much-younger girlfriend, and his kids won't speak to him. And then there's the money--the small fortune his late wife, Francine, kept secret, which she bequeathed directly to his children. Those children are Ethan, an anxious recluse living off his mother's money on a choice plot of Brooklyn real estate, and Maggie, a would-be do-gooder trying to fashion herself a noble life of self-imposed poverty. On the verge of losing the family home, Arthur invites his children back to St. Louis under the guise of a reconciliation. But in doing so, he unwittingly unleashes a Pandora's box of age-old resentments and long-buried memories--memories that orbit Francine, the matriarch whose life may hold the key to keeping them together. Spanning New York, Paris, Boston, St. Louis, and a small desert outpost in Zimbabwe, The Altruists is a darkly funny (and ultimately tender) family saga that confronts the divide between baby boomers and their millennial offspring. It's a novel about money, privilege, politics, campus culture, dating, talk therapy, rural sanitation, infidelity, kink, the American beer industry, and what it means to be a "good person."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nuanced satire--both hilarious and disconcerting--that probes the blurred lines between empowerment, spirituality, and consumerism in our online lives. Lilian Quick is 40, single, and childless, working as a pet portrait artist. She paints the colored light only she can see, but animal aura portraits are a niche market at best. She's working hard to build her brand on social media and struggling to pay the rent. Her estranged cousin has become internet-famous as "Eleven" Novak, the face of a massive feminine lifestyle empowerment brand, and when Eleven comes to town on tour, the two women reconnect. Despite twenty years of unexplained silence, Eleven offers Lilian a place at The Temple, her Manhattan office. Lilian accepts, moves to New York, and quickly enrolls in The Ascendency, Eleven's signature program: an expensive, three-month training seminar on leadership, spiritual awakening, and marketing. Eleven is going to help her cousin become her best self: confident, affluent, and self-actualized. In just three months, Lilian's life changes drastically: She learns how to break her negative thought patterns, achieves financial solvency, grows an active and engaged online following, and builds authentic friendships. She finally feels seen for who she really is. Success! . . . But can Lilian trust everything Eleven says? This compelling, heartfelt satire asks us: How do we recognize authenticity when storytelling and magic have been co-opted by marketing?

Book Laboratory Life

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bruno Latour
  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2013-04-04
  • ISBN : 1400820413
  • Pages : 295 pages

Download or read book Laboratory Life written by Bruno Latour and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2013-04-04 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly original work presents laboratory science in a deliberately skeptical way: as an anthropological approach to the culture of the scientist. Drawing on recent work in literary criticism, the authors study how the social world of the laboratory produces papers and other "texts,"' and how the scientific vision of reality becomes that set of statements considered, for the time being, too expensive to change. The book is based on field work done by Bruno Latour in Roger Guillemin's laboratory at the Salk Institute and provides an important link between the sociology of modern sciences and laboratory studies in the history of science.

Book excerpt: Max Edelman was just 17 when the Nazis took him from his Jewish ghetto in Poland to the first of five work camps, where his only hope of survival was to keep quiet and raise an emotional shield. After witnessing a German Shepherd kill a fellow prisoner, he developed a lifelong fear of dogs. Later beaten into blindness by two bored guards, Max survived, buried the past, and moved on to a new life in America, becoming an X-ray technician. But when he retired, he needed help. He needed a guide dog. After a month of training, he received Calvin, a handsome, devoted chocolate Labrador retriever. Calvin guided Max safely through life, but he sensed the distance and reserve of Max’s emotional shield. Calvin grew listless and lost weight. Trainers intervened—but to no avail. A few days before Calvin’s inevitable reassignment, Max went for an afternoon walk. A car cut into the crosswalk, and Calvin leapt forward, saving Max’s life. Max’s emotional shield dissolved. Calvin sensed the change and immediately improved, guiding Max to greater openness, trust, and engagement with the world. Here is the remarkable, touching story of a man who survived history and the dog that unlocked his heart.
