Book excerpt: Bruce the Spruce is a story about the plight of a Christmas tree. As a seedling, Bruce has a fear of one day being cut down as he saw happening to other trees. With the aid of a bird, Bruce was able to fly to a remote mountainside where he would be safe from loggers. Being surrounded by scrubby pines, Bruce soon became lonely without the company of other spruce trees. Years later, the bird returned and shared with Bruce the story of Christmas and the role that spruce trees play as they get beautifully decorated for the season. Bruce then realizes that he could not be a part of this tradition being located on a remote mountain side. The story goes on to have a joyous ending as a logging road is built on the mountainside. This allows a family to find Bruce on the side of the mountain. They take Bruce home, and Bruce gets to realize the dream that all Christmas trees have as he gets beautifully decorated and shares the joy of the Christmas season with the family that saved him from his lonely plight on the remote side of a mountaintop.

Book excerpt: THE LAST CHRISTMAS TREE, a children''s Christmas book, is the story of a young Blue Spruce tree that was born in the Great Forest in the mountains near the shores of the Great Lake. Sprucey had many friends in the Great Forest who taught him many things about the outside world. One day Sprucey was told the story of the Christmas Tree, and how it is used to celebrate the birth of the Son of the Creator of All Living Things. From that day forward Sprucey decided that, when he grew up, he wanted to be a Christmas Tree. One day in early December, Sprucey and his Mother are loaded on a truck to begin their journey to The Great City. There they are put on display in a city lot to be sold as Christmas trees. On Christmas Eve all the trees have been sold except Sprucey who is too small to be chosen. Fortunately, Sprucey gets his opportunity to become a Christmas tree when a small boy and his mother visit the lot at the close of the day. This book is filled with colorful illustrations reflecting life in the forest, the animals that make the forest their home, city street views, and many others that will interest your child. Like the Christmas classic, THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL, this story will touch the heart of the reader. The kindness and compassion of the owner of the Christmas tree lot and the joy that Sprucey feels for the happiness that he brings to a small boy and his mother on Christmas Eve, provides an insight into the true meaning of Christmas and the Christmas Spirit.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lonely Christmas Tree is a story about Bruce, a lonely (Spruce) Tree left in the Hotaling's Christmas tree lot on Christmas Eve. Bruce became the saddest Christmas tree around and thought that he would have to spend Christmas alone. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed some movement, maybe one last family shopping for a tree, but no it was just some woodland animals roaming about the Christmas tree lot. Bruce did not think anything of the animals until one of the animals; Hammy the chipmunk, came up to Bruce and asked what was wrong. Bruce told him that he was all alone for Christmas. Hammy then ran off, gathered the rest of his friends, and came back to let Bruce know that he would not be left alone on Christmas. This is when all the animals went on a scavenger hunt to find all the items they could to help decorate Bruce. All returned with great ideas to decorate Bruce; strings of popcorn, cookie ornaments, and left over Christmas lights and even a star. By the time they are finished decorating Bruce, he was the best-looking Christmas Trees in the entire town. Bruce was the happiest tree around and was spending it with some great friends on Christmas.

Book excerpt: "The Blue Castle" tells the story of a young woman named Valancy Stirling, who lives a dull and uneventful life in the restrictive and judgmental society of the early 20th century. She is unmarried and lives with her overbearing mother and cousin, and has resigned herself to a life of spinsterhood and conformity. However, everything changes when Valancy receives a devastating medical diagnosis that gives her only a year to live. This news acts as a catalyst, prompting Valancy to break free from the constraints placed upon her and start living life on her own terms. She decides to leave her oppressive family environment and embrace her dreams and desires. Valancy's journey takes her to the fictional Blue Castle, a place of love and freedom that exists only in her imagination. In this imagined space, she meets a mysterious man named Barney Snaith, who becomes a symbol of hope and adventure in her life. Through "The Blue Castle," Montgomery explores themes such as self-discovery, the power of imagination, and the importance of living authentically. The novel challenges societal norms and expectations, highlighting the barriers placed on women during the early 20th century. Valancy's transformation from a meek and submissive woman to a vibrant and independent individual is both inspiring and empowering. Montgomery's writing is vivid and evocative, immersing readers in the beauty of the Canadian landscape and the emotions of the characters. Her descriptions of nature and the Blue Castle itself transport readers to a place of enchantment and possibility. The author's knack for creating memorable characters shines through in Valancy's journey, as well as in the supporting cast that includes eccentric family members and quirky townspeople. "The Blue Castle" stands apart from Montgomery's more famous works due to its departure from the author's usual setting of Prince Edward Island. The novel is set in the fictional Muskoka region of Ontario, providing a fresh and captivating backdrop. This change of scenery adds another layer of charm and uniqueness to the story. Overall, "The Blue Castle" is a delightful and heartwarming tale of self-discovery, courage, and love. It portrays the transformative power of embracing one's true desires and finding joy in unexpected places. Montgomery's masterful storytelling and the endearing characters make this a book you won't want to put down.
