Book Shaping Sustainable Change

Download or read book Shaping Sustainable Change written by Leda Stott and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-actor partnerships are promoted as central to the achievement of sustainable development. However, these relationships are not always easy, and calls are being made for more guidance on how partners can work together effectively to deliver results and achieve meaningful change. Shaping Sustainable Change explains the growing and significant role of partnership brokering in shaping these relationships. Drawing upon the work of the Partnership Brokers Association, it uses evidenced-based materials to show how the work of partnership brokering contributes to the management of collaborative relationships so that they are better positioned to have a positive and sustainable impact. As well as making the case for partnership brokering, the publication explores the profile and key activities carried out by partnership brokers, and the skills required to undertake this role. Examples are also provided to illustrate how partnership brokering works in practice in relation to different contexts, sectors and themes. This book will appeal not only to partnership brokers but also to professional and academic readers interested in achieving sustainable development.

Download or read book Race Brokers written by Elizabeth Korver-Glenn and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Race Brokers examines how housing market professionals-including housing developers, real estate agents, mortgage lenders, and appraisers-construct 21st century urban housing markets in ways that contribute to or undermine racial segregation. Drawing on extensive ethnographic and interview data collected in Houston, Texas, Race Brokers shows that housing market professionals play a key role in connecting people-or refusing to connect people-to housing resources and opportunities. They make these brokering decisions through reference to racist or anti-racist ideas. Typically, housing market professionals draw from racist ideas that rank-order people and neighborhoods according to their perceived economic and cultural housing market value, entwining racism with their housing market activities and interactions. Racialized housing market routines encourage this entwinement by naturalizing racism as a professional tool. Race Brokers tracks how professionals broker racism across the housing exchange process-from the home's construction, to real estate brokerage, mortgage lending, home appraisals, and the home sale closing. In doing so, it shows that professionals make housing exchange a racialized process that contributes to neighbourhood inequality and racial segregation. However, in contrast to the racialized status-quo, a small number of housing market professionals draw on anti-racist ideas and strategies to extend equal opportunities to individuals and neighborhoods, de-naturalizing housing market racism. Race Brokers highlights the imperative to interrupt the racism that pervades housing market professionals' work, dismantle the racialized routines that underwrite such racism, and cultivate a truly fair housing market"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Change agents, in any capacity and environment, play a pivotal role in moving new knowledge and ideas forward. Their role is complex and requires an array of skills that allows productivity and relationship building. This book investigates the change agent role within one large-scale educational initiative, providing an in-depth examination of the entry skills brought to the role, how skills develop over time, and their influence as boundary brokers across all levels of the initiative. This work has implications for any agency with the responsibility of hiring and creating a positive environment for change. It provides insights into the variety of strength profiles that change agents possess, and how constellations of strengths in a group may support one another. The conclusions also shed light on how the skills of change agents may be developed over time in ways that include attention to ongoing, multi-level professional development, support during destabilizing events, ongoing emotional and cognitive support, and using questioning as a powerful tool. Agencies with change agent hiring and support responsibilities will be able to use this information to craft job postings and to design short- and long-term support structures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientists have a choice concerning what role they should play in political debates and policy formation, particularly in terms of how they present their research. This book is about understanding this choice, what considerations are important to think about when deciding, and the consequences of such choices for the individual scientist and the broader scientific enterprise. Rather than prescribing what course of action each scientist ought to take, the book aims to identify a range of options for individual scientists to consider in making their own judgments about how they would like to position themselves in relation to policy and politics. Using examples from a range of scientific controversies and thought-provoking analogies from other walks of life, The Honest Broker challenges us all - scientists, politicians and citizens - to think carefully about how best science can contribute to policy-making and a healthy democracy.
