Do you want your life to touch humanity all over the world? Do you want God to make something beautiful out of your life? If your answer to these questions are "yes" then, The Broken Vessel is for you. Book Broken Vessels

Download or read book Broken Vessels written by Andre Dubus and published by David R. Godine Publisher. This book was released on 1992 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Andre Dubus is celebrated for his ability to depict the subtlest of human emotions in his characters, and when he turns to nonfiction, the resulting insights are no less illuminative. Especially moving are his descriptions of his children, his wrenching account of the 1986 automobile accident that cost him his leg, and of the ensuing struggle for his spiritual and physical survival. Broken Vessels is a book that, in its scope and sympathy, its grace and courage, never fails to startle with the sudden impact of quiet truths, passionately felt and powerfully expressed.

Book excerpt: The purpose of this three-part manuscript is to encourage others like myself to believe that God is with them and working all things out to His glory and their good. Beginning by describing my life in a detailed autobiographical section. In this section I relate the circumstances surrounding my pregnancies and children's births; my relationship with an abusive husband, and what followed after his death; a tragic accident and a miraculous recovery; the loss of my fiancée to an untimely death; and my experience as a foster parent. The second part is an exhortation to always walk in love, no matter what; to crucify the flesh and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. I challenge the Church to wake up and do her job, for a dying world is waiting in need. The final part is a series of poems written by me, which describe my walk and relationship with my Heavenly Father.

Book Jambos With James

Download or read book Jambos With James written by Mary T Heffron deBrueys and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2020-10-29 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While on a weekend vacation to see their beloved LSU Tigers play, Jim and Mary T deBrueys get a call that would stop any parent’s heart. “We’re calling to let you know that a boat transporting your son, James, and others has gone missing.” From that surreal moment and on through the next ten years, Mary T, Jim, and their family and friends have nothing but love, grace, family, and faith to see them through. In this unusual memoir, Mary T's recollections and correspondence from friends paint a colorful picture of James, a hilarious, sweet-natured twenty-two-year-old determined to do good in the world. He is on a volunteer mission to teach impoverished children in the Marshall Islands when his boat goes missing. But readers will get to know James personally from the letters he writes home; witty, loving, observant, and kind, they paint a portrait of an exceptional young man on the cusp of adulthood, with plans to make a difference. A story of unimaginable loss and the path to finding grace, Jambos with James will speak eloquently to others who have lost children and to young people who have lost friends and/or siblings, showing the hope and even joy that comes from living through and accepting such a tragedy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Widespread deficiencies in spiritual formation see an increasing number of ministers buckle under the significant burdens common to the task. There are seasons when a powerful triad of the flesh, the world, and the devil converge (Eph 2:2–3, cf. Jas 3:15 and 1 John 2:16). Misdirected attempts to fulfill emptiness, find worth, or heal longstanding wounds ensue. Widespread instances of sexual immorality result. Sound exegesis and analysis of theological doctrine presents an allowance, in certain cases, for ministerial restoration. However, this necessitates an intimate and intricate approach that differs significantly from the varied solutions churches and denominations offer. Few restoration programs bring a biblical response to bear. Remarkably rare are restoration programs that look to correct causal factors and commit to congregational care. This program orients itself on an understanding of brokenness and the need for holistic (re)formation. The latter requires fallen ministers to progress beyond biblical confession and repentance to partner with the Holy Spirit and key authorities such as an overseer, mentors, Christian mental health professionals, and a designated congregation. The unitive goal is a “sanctifying psychopathology” that properly diagnoses spiritual and emotional health; eradicates the adverse influences of emotional, cultural, and spiritual factors; and redirects self-oriented patterns of thought and behavior.
