It was on this day, in a speech by Minister Farrakhan, that I first heard about Willie Lynch. There was something about that part of his message that stuck with me for the past ten years. Scholars would say that it is too simplistic to attribute our failings to one person- one plan- one scheme, Willie Lynch. We are not that naïve, are we? And, anyway, if true, his effort at social engineering took place 300 years ago. In this book, I will attempt to explain, in broad terms, the negative results of that social engineering project of Willie Lynch. I will also make recommendations designed to combat it. I want to tell my readers how the cornerstone of black society, the family, has been eroded to the point of despair; the mindset that caused it, and some possible basic solutions. The educational system should be the easiest to fix. We must stop putting kids in bad learning situations, and leaving them to fail. We have choices and we must exercise those choices. The economic wealth of African Americans is larger than most countries in the world today. Yet we fail to benefit from that wealth. We are Bling-Bling Broke. We are the second largest voting block in the country, yet we have marginalized ourselves by voting for anyone who will promise us civil rights (The Democrats). They don’t deliver, yet we continue to vote the same way each election. To this day, the media will rarely portray Blacks in a positive way. The media has proven to be the most effective instrument of the Willie Lynch social engineering experiment. From the days of slavery the church played a vital role in the rebuilding of the moral foundation necessary for this society to grow strong and correct. The Willie Lynch legacy is the one consistent thread that seems to affect all of us. In 2006 we still occasionally exhibit social behavior reminiscent of the Willie Lynch legacy.

Though existing scholarship shows that intraracial black violence did not reach high levels until after Reconstruction, contemporary records bear witness to its regular presence among enslaved populations. Slave against Slave explores the roots of and motivations for such violence and the ways in which slaves, masters, churches, and civil and criminal laws worked to hold it in check. Far from focusing on violence alone, Forret’s work also adds depth to our understanding of morality among the enslaved, revealing how slaves sought to prevent violence and punish those who engaged in it. Forret mines a vast array of slave narratives, slaveholders’ journals, travelers’ accounts, and church and court records from across the South to approximate the prevalence of slave-against-slave violence prior to the Civil War. A diverse range of motives for these conflicts emerges, from tensions over status differences, to disagreements originating at work and in private, to discord relating to the slave economy and the web of debts that slaves owed one another, to courtship rivalries, marital disputes, and adulterous affairs. Forret also uncovers the role of explicitly gendered violence in bondpeople’s constructions of masculinity and femininity, suggesting a system of honor among slaves that would have been familiar to southern white men and women, had they cared to acknowledge it. Though many generations of scholars have examined violence in the South as perpetrated by and against whites, the internal clashes within the slave quarters have remained largely unexplored. But in the Caribbean British colony, the enslavement of Africans began in the 1600s and 1610s. Many Caribbean plantation owners were slave owners though both men came to believe that slavery was morally wrong. Slavery flourished in the Caribbean. In most of the US states, there were large cotton and tobacco farms that required slave workers. During the revolution in the years 1776s to 1783s in the West, it began to turn against slavery, believing it violated the US Constitution's promise that "all men and women are created equal.' As the 1800s began, Northern abolitionists were starting a crusade to end slavery while Southerners insisted on their right to continue their traditional way of life, which included owning slaves, which affected the Caribbean as well. Ram Chatar was born in the 1820s and reached the Caribbean sometime in the 1840s when the business of buying and selling slaves by the plantation owners was booming. Most of them were field hands, working to raise and harvest crops. Mostly slave women were domestic servants working in the plantation houses. The rising anger in the West and the Caribbean on the issue of slavery helped bring about American Civil War. When the war ended in 1865, slavery was abolished in the West but remain in the Caribbean and took a little time to end.
