Book Generalized Radon Transforms And Imaging By Scattered Particles Broken Rays Cones And Stars In Tomography

Download or read book Generalized Radon Transforms And Imaging By Scattered Particles Broken Rays Cones And Stars In Tomography written by Gaik Ambartsoumian and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2023-03-14 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A generalized Radon transform (GRT) maps a function to its weighted integrals along a family of curves or surfaces. Such operators appear in mathematical models of various imaging modalities. The GRTs integrating along smooth curves and surfaces (lines, planes, circles, spheres, amongst others) have been studied at great lengths for decades, but relatively little attention has been paid to transforms integrating along non-smooth trajectories. Recently, an interesting new class of GRTs emerged at the forefront of research in integral geometry. The two common features of these transforms are the presence of a 'vertex' in their paths of integration (broken rays, cones, and stars) and their relation to imaging techniques based on physics of scattered particles (Compton camera imaging, single scattering tomography, etc). This book covers the relevant imaging modalities, their mathematical models, and the related GRTs. The discussion of the latter comprises a thorough exploration of their known mathematical properties, including injectivity, inversion, range description and microlocal analysis. The mathematical background required for reading most of the book is at the level of an advanced undergraduate student, which should make its content attractive for a large audience of specialists interested in imaging. Mathematicians may appreciate certain parts of the theory that are particularly elegant with connections to functional analysis, PDEs and algebraic geometry.

Book excerpt: Broken But Not in Despair was written by a woman for women to say, "Yes, I am shattered today, but I will survive tomorrow." Sometimes we as women take our failure and heartbreaks to the grave. We hide and pretend to be whole, successful, and beautiful in every area of our lives because we are taught no one wants to see beauty undone. Most women have been taught to hide their shame and smile through the pain so that others see us as strong positive role models. I was one of those women, hurting and broken into a million pieces, breaking away from tradition and shame, I decided to take the mask off and let people see my pain and share my hurts with my sisters. I was tired of crying alone behind closed doors and telling the world I am doing just fine. It was through my tears that I saw a need to share my brokenness so that others can heal. I learned that with the support of the sisterhood, I did not have to be alone or shoulder the burden of my pain in the darkness of silence. When I thought I could not walk, they carried me, when I wanted to hide away from the world, they pulled me back into the light. When I thought I had nothing left to live for, they gave me joy and helped me count my blessings. Through the support of the sisterhood, I saw brokenness as a chance to reshape my life and reinvent myself. I wrote this book to remind women that being broken can positively affect many opportunities. Broken But Not in Despair is a story about four broken women who bared their souls and shared their pain, allowing the love and nurturing support of the sisterhood to heal and mend the break. These are real women like you and me, who discovered that being broken does not mean despair. It means a new life and a new beginning.

Book An Introduction To Mathematical Billiards

Download or read book An Introduction To Mathematical Billiards written by Utkir A Rozikov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-12-06 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This book offers one of the few places where a collection of results from the literature can be found … The book has an extensive bibliography … It is very nice to have the compendium of results that is presented here.'zbMATHA mathematical billiard is a mechanical system consisting of a billiard ball on a table of any form (which can be planar or even a multidimensional domain) but without billiard pockets. The ball moves and its trajectory is defined by the ball's initial position and its initial speed vector. The ball's reflections from the boundary of the table are assumed to have the property that the reflection and incidence angles are the same. This book comprehensively presents known results on the behavior of a trajectory of a billiard ball on a planar table (having one of the following forms: circle, ellipse, triangle, rectangle, polygon and some general convex domains). It provides a systematic review of the theory of dynamical systems, with a concise presentation of billiards in elementary mathematics and simple billiards related to geometry and physics. The description of these trajectories leads to the solution of various questions in mathematics and mechanics: problems related to liquid transfusion, lighting of mirror rooms, crushing of stones in a kidney, collisions of gas particles, etc. The analysis of billiard trajectories can involve methods of geometry, dynamical systems, and ergodic theory, as well as methods of theoretical physics and mechanics, which has applications in the fields of biology, mathematics, medicine, and physics.

Book excerpt: Over half of the people in the United States will experience the splitting up of their parents, statistics say. Yet no matter how "normal" divorce becomes, it always inflicts a profound wound on families—not only the parents, but the children, whether young or grown. The children of divorce are fractured on the level of their very being: heart, mind, and soul. If left untended, this break could pain them for the rest of their lives, tingeing their relationships, their faith, and their capacity for joy. Life-Giving Wounds offers a path to recovery for adult children of divorce and separation, and a thorough reference for those who love and care for them. Daniel and Bethany Meola draw from their personal experience, theological formation, and academic research—as well as from their work of accompanying hundreds of men and women from broken homes—to provide a compassionate, spiritually rich, and psychologically sound guidebook following the footsteps of the only true healer: Jesus Christ. Readers of Life-Giving Wounds learn to recognize the many ruptures caused by divorce and, more crucially, to find new life by grieving, praying, hoping, loving, forgiving, trusting, and committing to one's vocation. In the Resurrection, God turns suffering into something infinitely beautiful: redemption. This is where we find healing that lasts. Our wounds may remain with us—as Christ's did with him—but they can, like his, begin to givelife.
