Hamish succumbed to gold fever but, after the death of Maeve, returned to the sea while Fiona cared for the young boys. Feeling like he missed his chance, he wanted his sons to experience the ranch. Gideon; his wife, Isobel; and his sons, Mark, Stephen, and Philip, along with Gavin and his new bride, Moria, set out for the ranch, taking supplies, furniture, horses, and cattle with them. Each person has different attitudes and hopes. Isobel hopes it will stop her philandering husband. Gideon, who cares nothing about the ranch, hopes it will fail and that the money be put into family holdings he controls. Two baby girls are born to them while at the ranch. Mark is the only one in his family who is happy about the move and never wants to leave. Gavin wants Moria to be happy at the ranch. They both love the house, mountains, and ranch. The only sadness is the fact they have no children. Isobel becomes more hateful as time passes, and when she finds Gideon at the opera with his mistress and their son, her hatred knows no bounds toward Gideon. The death of a friend, a son, and a daughter does not sway her hatred for life in general. As Mark grows to become the Broken Anchor manager, a war between the cattlemen and the Basque sheep men break out. When he enters into a partnership to raise prize palomino horses with his father, his mother becomes even more determined to ruin the ranch.

Before that time the Pentecostal experience of Acts Chapter Two had not been experienced in southern Missouri. I was blessed by being raised by my grandparents for a time, and growing up hearing those stories of America’s discovery of the modern Pentecostal experience. That was their legacy which they passionately handed down to me. Now, years later, my daughter is grown and moved on with her life. As I looked around me at all the things I have experienced over the years, I began to ponder the question of what would be my Legacy. What will I pass on to others, what do I have to share? Will anything that I have experienced be worth remembering in the ages to come? That is the motivation for the pages that follow. I want to share what is most important to me while I still have the time and ability to do so. So that one day when I am gone, future generations will have a voice to guide them and help them overcome the storms of life that I have already passed through. Within these pages you will find a collection of essays and short stories that I wrote to share some of my deepest held beliefs and most private life lessons. Some of my words may not meet the needs or approval of everyone who reads these pages. I just pray that you will continue until the conclusion of this journey with me. My hope is, that hidden somewhere within the contents of “A Father’s Legacy” (My Legacy), somehow you may find a grain of inspiration. The addition of interdisciplinary inquiry, investigative techniques, and analytical modeling, from fields such as engineering, oceanography, and marine biology have increased our ability to trace the unique pathways through which archaeological sites progress from initial deposition to the present, yet can also link individual sites into an integrated socio-environmental maritime landscape. This edited volume presents a global perspective of current research in maritime archaeological landscape formation processes. In addition to “classically” considered submerged material culture and geography, or those that can be accessed by traditional underwater methodology, case studies include less-often considered sites and landscapes. These landscapes, for example, require archaeologists to use geophysical marine survey equipment to characterize extensive areas of the seafloor or go above the surface to access maritime archaeological resources that have received less scholarly attention.
