Download or read book Unburied Bodies written by James R. Martel and published by Amherst College Press. This book was released on 2018-11-16 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The human body is the locus of meaning, personhood, and our sense of the possibility of sanctity. The desecration of the human corpse is a matter of universal revulsion, taboo in virtually all human cultures. Not least for this reason, the unburied corpse quickly becomes a focal point of political salience, on the one hand seeming to express the contempt of state power toward the basic claims of human dignity—while on the other hand simultaneously bringing into question the very legitimacy of that power. In Unburied Bodies: Subversive Corpses and the Authority of the Dead, James Martel surveys the power of the body left unburied to motivate resistance, to bring forth a radically new form of agency, and to undercut the authority claims made by state power. Ranging across time and space from the battlefields of ancient Thebes to the streets of Ferguson, Missouri, and taking in perspectives from such writers as Sophocles, Machiavelli, Walter Benjamin, Hannah Arendt, James Baldwin, Judith Butler, Thomas Lacqueur, and Bonnie Honig, Martel asks why the presence of the abandoned corpse can be seen by both authorities and protesters as a source of power, and how those who have been abandoned or marginalized by structures of authority can find in a lifeless body fellow accomplices in their aspirations for dignity and humanity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Jesus said, “It is finished,” was he just making a way for personal salvation with God, or was there a bigger picture that the church has been in the dark about...until NOW? Should we expect love, peace, and joy now or just hang on till we someday get to heaven? John 14:12 says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” God is opening gates with a declaration to the world that today is the day of salvation, which is the Greek word SOZO meaning: health, prosperity, wholeness, and peace. His mansions are NOW adorned with the beauty of light. His feet are NOW walking streets of gold. Behold, the lamb has taken away the sins of the world. He is calling ALL to come and claim their inheritance set before them as the Sons of God, and to grow up in their true identity, to BE the mature in Christ. We are being commissioned by the Holy Spirit that TODAY the Eternal Life, Love, and Light of our Heavenly Father is in our midst to be manifested. Bringing Forth the Sons of God will bring hope and encouragement to a troubled world that we don’t have to hang on till we die to receive our inheritance from the Father. We can NOW enter into His presence and receive our inheritance

She has failed to give him a son and her sharp intelligence and audacious will alienate his old friends and the noble families of England. When the discarded Katherine dies in exile from the court, Anne stands starkly exposed, the focus of gossip and malice. At a word from Henry, Thomas Cromwell is ready to bring her down. Over three terrifying weeks, Anne is ensnared in a web of conspiracy, while the demure Jane Seymour stands waiting her turn for the poisoned wedding ring. But Anne and her powerful family will not yield without a ferocious struggle. Hilary Mantel's Bring Up the Bodies follows the dramatic trial of the queen and her suitors for adultery and treason. To defeat the Boleyns, Cromwell must ally with his natural enemies, the papist aristocracy. What price will he pay for Anne's head? At the same time, it should help Mormons to better comprehend their own doctrines, and to refute the arguments of would-be detractors that their beliefs are "unbiblical" and "non-Christian."
Download or read book Renaissance Acting Editions The Second Part of Henry the Fourth Containing his Death and the Coronation of King Henry the Fift King Henry IV Part 2 written by William Shakespeare and published by Demitra Papadinis. This book was released on 2014-09-22 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shakespeare's actors did not receive a copy of the entire script but instead worked from "cue-scripts" or "part scripts" which contained only the lines and cues for a single character. The Renaissance Acting Editions provide cue-scripts for those who wish to experiment with the early modern acting process. Each play in the series consists of a set of cue-scripts and an unabridged prompt-script in modern font edited and prepared from William Shakespeare's First Folio of 1623. A "platt" (a.k.a. a "plot," a running list of entrances, exits, and major stage business) and instructions for assembling a cue-script roll are also included. These editions are not direct transcriptions of the First Folio texts. Original spelling, punctuation, and verse lineation have been retained throughout, but minimal revision has been done (e.g., correction of missing entrances and exits, restoration of simultaneous dialogue, etc.) to make the scripts more user-friendly.
