Book Kodaly in the Kindergarten Classroom

Download or read book Kodaly in the Kindergarten Classroom written by Micheal Houlahan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015-03-06 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the mid-twentieth century, Zoltán Kodály's child-developmental philosophy for teaching music has had significant positive impact on music education around the world, and is now at the core of music teaching in the United States and other English speaking countries. Kodály in the Kindergarten Classroom is the first comprehensive handbook to update and apply the Kodály concepts to teaching music in early childhood classrooms. Kodály in the Kindergarten Classroom provides teachers with a step-by-step road map for developing children's performance, creative movement, and literacy skills in an organic and thoughtful manner. Through six years of field-testing with music kindergarten teachers in the United States, Great Britain, and Hungary (the home country of Zoltán Kodály), authors Micheál Houlahan and Philip Tacka have developed a methodology specifically for 21st century classrooms. Houlahan and Tacka use the latest research findings in cognition and perception to create a system not only appropriate for kindergarteners' particular developmental stages but also one which integrates vertically between kindergarten and elementary music classes. The methods outlined in this volume encourage greater musical ability and creativity in children by teaching kindergarteners to sing, move, play instruments, and develop music literacy skills. In addition, Kodály in the Kindergarten Classroom promotes critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration skills. Although the book uses the Kodály philosophy, its methodology has also been tested by teachers certified in Orff and Dalcroze, and has proven an essential guide for teachers no matter what their personal philosophy and specific training might be. Over 100 children's books are incorporated into Kodály in the Kindergarten Classroom, as well as 35 detailed lesson plans that demonstrate how music and literacy curriculum goals are transformed into tangible musical objectives. Scholarly yet practical and accessible, this volume is sure to be an essential guide for kindergarten and early childhood music teachers everywhere.

Book A Singing Approach to Horn Playing

Download or read book A Singing Approach to Horn Playing written by Grana and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2022 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ""A Singing Approach to Horn Playing" trains hornists to play with greater accuracy and musicality by developing the ear. Horn players learn to actively hear the notes on the page through singing and playing the instrument. Each example includes solfège, inner hearing, transposition, and rhythmic training, as well as polyphonic exercises for learning to hear and read in multiple parts. These exercises can be done independently or with a partner. The book begins with folk songs to develop fundamental pitch and solfège skills, starting with three and four note melodies. These songs are followed by canons, solfeggio (vocal etudes transcribed for horn), and standard horn literature. The horn selections enable hornists to apply their musicianship skills to performance, with examples from standard etudes, orchestral excerpts, and solos. The horn parts also include significant orchestral and accompaniment lines to sing and play on horn, so that horn players can perform with practical knowledge of the score"--

Download or read book What Folklorists Do written by Timothy Lloyd and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2021-10-05 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What can you do with a folklore degree? Over six dozen folklorists, writing from their own experiences, show us. What Folklorists Do examines a wide range of professionals—both within and outside the academy, at the beginning of their careers or holding senior management positions—to demonstrate the many ways that folklore studies can shape and support the activities of those trained in it. As one of the oldest academic professions in the United States and grounded in ethnographic fieldwork, folklore has always been concerned with public service and engagement beyond the academy. Consequently, as this book demonstrates, the career applications of a training in folklore are many—advocating for local and national causes; shaping public policy; directing and serving in museums; working as journalists, publishers, textbook writers, or journal editors; directing national government programs or being involved in historic preservation; teaching undergraduate and graduate students; producing music festivals; pursuing a career in politics; or even becoming a stand-up comedian. A comprehensive guide to the range of good work carried out by today's folklorists, What Folklorists Do is essential reading for folklore students and professionals and those in positions to hire them. Audio book narrated by Walter Brown. Produced by Speechki in 2021.

Book 53 Simple International Songs for Toy Xylophones for Non Musicians Easy Sheet Music for Beginners

Download or read book 53 Simple International Songs for Toy Xylophones for Non Musicians Easy Sheet Music for Beginners written by Helen Winter and published by Helen Winter. This book was released on with total page 59 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ebook includes 53 popular, rhythmic, and easy-to-play folk songs and melodies from all over the world. Through music, we are brought together and we can gain a better understanding of people from all corners of the Earth. Getting to know music from around the world can be one of the most exciting and appealing ways to be introduced to new and different cultures. Music is a universal language, meaning that it transcends borders and opens up an entirely new way of thinking. You do not need to have any musical experience or be able to read music to use this book. It is aimed at your or your kid's first musical experience with a toy musical instrument. Nowadays, toy xylophones are well-tuned and can be used to easily become introduced to the world of music. If you have this specific xylophone (pictured below), you can play all 53 songs. We chose the most popular model on the market, where the C and C8 notes are colored in blue. However, if your model is a little bit different, for example C is red, C8 is white or C and C8 both are red, this book will also work for you. Besides colored circles corresponding to the key color of your small xylophone, there are note letters inside each circle. Just follow the letter and play. Additionally, we have collected very simple and very popular melodies and songs from all over the world to make your musical journey more interesting. We recommended scanning the QR code on each page and listening to the melody and rhythm before playing. This is the most natural method to learn music. Our circles do not show the pitch and duration of notes and rhythmic patterns. Remember, this ebook is for your very first musical instrument. All melodies in this ebook were simplified for a one-octave diatonic xylophone. Book excerpt: Memoir is Rosario Ferré’s account of her life both as a writer and as a member of a family at the center of the economic and political history of Puerto Rico during the American Century, one hundred years of territorial “non-incorporation” into the United States. The autobiography tells the story of Ferré’s transformation from the daughter of a privileged family into a celebrated novelist, poet, and essayist concerned with the welfare of Puerto Ricans, and with the difficulties of being a woman in Puerto Rican society. It is a snapshot of twentieth-century Puerto Rico through the lens of a writer profoundly aware of her social position. It is a picture taken from the perspective of a keen observer of the local history of the island, and of the history of the United States. Included are many photographs that connect Ferré’s life with the story of her writing career.
